Milestone Maru

For almost ten years, Maru has pushed the boundaries of feline accomplishment, squeezing himself into every box, every bag, every possible predicament, no matter how absurd. And now he gets to squeeze an award onto his trophy shelf: A Guinness world record for most views of an animal on YouTube. Below, in a video sent in byย Andrew Y., Lois M., and Daniel C., is a retrospective of Maru’s paradoxical life, a life simultaneously expansive and confined.

Bonus! Maru shows his good side as he does what he does best. (via Dana D.)

I was hoping the lady in the video was his Mommy, but it’s the interview lady. ๐Ÿ™ We’ve never seen what Mugumogu looks like. Of course, she’s always the one behind the camera. Mugumogu was busy recording the camera guys and the interviewer!! Loved the fact that he wouldn’t approach the interviewer UNTIL they put a box by her!! Leave to him. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was hoping this was Mugumogu in the other video since it’s blurred out, but nope… same outfit as interviewer lady… unless Mugumogu wore the exact same thing to trick us all O_O dun dun dun…

Wishful thinking on my part I guess XD

Almost, anyway. In the retrospective video, the first year shown is 2008, so we’ve been enjoying Maru for nine to ten years.

When Maru saw his award his non-reaction made me think of what Garfield would say, “Big, fat, hairy deal.”

Like all the truly great, Maru scorns the gaudy trappings of fame.

Mike, you need to post a warning about not eating or drinking while watching that video! Another monitor cleanup is necessary.

I’m proud to say I did my part! I’ve been watching and SHOWING Maru videos to students since at least 2009.

That compilation video was Maru’s best video ever.

“Maru, you are officially amazing.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. That boy definitely makes the world a better place.

I can’t believe that there were a few snippets of video that were new to me. After 10 years, Maru is still entertaining as ever!

Adorable! Yes, a lot of them were new to me too – particularly the early ones. That somersault behind the door!

I love Maru, and have done so since before I heard of boxhab. And it was neat to see Hana’s baby pix, too. Congratulations, Maru, arigato for making me smile!

      Baby Hana that is.

When I first saw this I thought it was another birthday video. Then I heard the presenter lady. Genuine audible gasping ensued.

Congrats to Maru and Mugumogu on such a massive milestone! May your record keep growing for years to come!

Hey, I have to give massive kudos to Mugumogu for directing and editing all of Maru’s set-ups and antics; they are Zen snippets of brilliance.

She really is a master of video. Plus she gives Maru&Hana so many wonderful things to explore. Those cats are never bored.

I was surprised at how many of the videos were new to me, too – I guess I became aware of Maru on Cute Overload, so have been aware of him for a long time. He is a wonder. I think my favorites will always be him diving into a box or bag and sliding across the (immaculate!) floor. I like the ones with the hairdos on the box, too. He always looks so serious.
