Links: A Cut Above

And finally: Ssssssssssssmile!

Inspired by emojis, a snake breeder has developed aย python with smiles on its skin. It’s just a one-off, however — he’s not ready for full scale production. (via Elizabeth G.)

Oh those poor alpacas, she calls it a lion cut but it’s a mullet!
    I call that’s animal cruelty (just kidding ? ).

Don’t know what a mullet is, take a look and go compare with the alpacas.

Definitely mullets. My first thought (and NOMTOM’s too, judging by the 70s album cover reference). They look nothing like lion’s manes. But still very cute.

Business in the front, party in the back. (Insert out of tune guitar strum here)

        • Smartypants May 8, 2017 / 2:04 pm

Yes, I’ve been trying to come up with an alpaca version – “carrying maize in front, frolicking through the mountains in back”…? Still working on it.

          • HaHa May 8, 2017 / 2:24 pm

Close cropping in the front, free range in the back.

              :D!

I love that the alpaca breeder did the weird shearing only on alpacas that she knew well and knew would enjoy the attention!

    • Juno May 8, 2017 / 10:31 am

The article made such a point of repeatedly saying the alpacas enjoyed it–obviously trying to prevent the storm of complaints they knew they’d get from people who would insist it was ‘abuse.’

    Shear madness?
    Full scale?

    Too many puns!

Oh, who am I kidding; no such thing as too many puns.

I saw the kitten photo shoot on facebook over the weekend but didn’t click on it. I had a feeling it would show up here. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Elephants. In sweaters.

    Color-coordinated with the knitters.

I could swear they look rather pleased to be so stylishly protected from the cold!

    • Juno May 8, 2017 / 10:23 am

The “jumpers” are quite beautiful, aren’t they?

    • Emsthemonster May 8, 2017 / 3:05 pm

I kept inspecting the elephant pic to find the colour coordinated kittens, but I found only knitters knitting heffalump knickers.

My employer’s social media accounts already featured the elephants in sweaters. Hopefully those rockin’ alpacas will now show up as well! Yes, I send lots of fiber animal links from Cutetropolis to our social media people, who are always grateful to get them.

My favorites are still the Shetland ponies in Shetland sweaters. (Or “jumpers,” I suppose they’d say there.)

      • debg May 8, 2017 / 10:36 am

And I still have to finish my Shetland pony stuffies in little jumpers. They’ve been in progress for years now!

      • Smartypants May 8, 2017 / 11:36 am

Now if someone made kangaroo sweaters, they’d literally be jumpers!

        • Duckie ? May 8, 2017 / 12:00 pm

          Jumpers in jumpers!

        • Not That Mike The Other Mike May 8, 2017 / 12:02 pm

Or rabbit sweaters! Little angora sweaters for bunnies, just think of it! Jumpers for thumpers!

          • Smartypants May 8, 2017 / 2:08 pm

            Sounds awesome!

That reminds me, if anyone needs a name for a female bunny, may I suggest “Admiral Grace”? (after Admiral Grace Hopper, computer pioneer).

Not to take anything away from Molly, the cat-rescuing dog, but she’s not the first. I remember hearing about someone who trained dogs to find cats over 10 years ago, in a radio interview. Two things she said always stuck with me: 1) They selected dogs who just LOVE cats, and 2) “Basically, dogs will do anything for cheese.” (I’m not a dog person, so I tuck these bits of trivia away for future reference. You never know.) (That’s not true. I actually have no idea why I remember certain silly details.)

    • allein ? May 8, 2017 / 10:34 am

My dog when I was a kid loved cheese.

But so does my cat (specifically, good Parmesan or a nice Provolone).

      • Juno May 8, 2017 / 2:56 pm

We had a cat that loved cantaloupe. My current cats love beans, and one of them also loves mushrooms and tomatoes. (I don’t willingly share, but they’re very good at stealing when my back is turned.)

    • debg May 8, 2017 / 10:38 am

Juno, that’s hilarious. I share the canine love for cheese.

      • Duckie ? May 8, 2017 / 12:05 pm

        Hubby does, too.
We were at a friend’s house once, and were making homemade macaroni and cheese. Her husband was reading the recipe out loud. He reached a part where he said to “add two cups of shredded cheese”.
I stuck my head around the corner, and, in a mock-scandalized tone of voice, said, “you MEASURE cheese?”

        • Smartypants May 8, 2017 / 2:06 pm

There’s only one suitable measurement – “Add ALL the cheese!”

          • Juno May 8, 2017 / 2:58 pm

I shared my recipe for Garlic-Stuffed Bread with a friend. I told him, “Double the cheese” and he replied, “That goes without saying.”
