So It’s “Cake Wrecks” but with Cats

I keel you!

A while back, I posted a photo of a strangely shaved cat which was not well received (my apologies to all). Reader Murray C. just sent a story from The Dodo that at least explains how the cat came to be in this state. When Jin Jin’s owner dropped him off at the groomers, there was some miscommunication about the kind of cut Jin Jin should get. This led not only to the “mask” effect, but to the sobering conclusion that somewhere on this planet lurks a pet groomer who actually thought this was a good idea. Anyway, feel free to pound that downvote button again.

You already voted!

Mike, I refuse to downvote you because of someone else’s assininity (is that even a word?).

    • beemoused May 16, 2017 / 2:08 pm

If it isn’t, it should be!!

    • allein ? May 16, 2017 / 2:50 pm

It is, but there’s only one S. Though two makes more sense, given the meaning of the word. 😉

    • debg May 16, 2017 / 3:26 pm

      I concur.

I was tempted to downvote the original, because it really wasn’t cute, but I thought your commentary was funny, Mike, and I didn’t want to downvote that. I’m certainly not going to downvote this kind explanation. I do, however, downvote the groomer—but only in my mind, not on the vote counters!

This seems to be the appropriate occasion to use my favorite expression from this season of Fargo – ‘Unfathomable Pinheadery!’

When I took my year old Australian Shepards to be groomed for the first time, I took them to my usual groomer and thought, how hard can it be, they need a bath and maybe a trim. Well, for some reason, that no one could explain, they shaved ALL of the hair off the back of their legs, the ‘bloomers’ which are a breed standard. Basically, they were furry dogs with bald behinds. What groomer thought that was an idea good enough to do twice? I immediately switched to a show groomer. The price was worth it every time I picked them up and didn’t see parts that only a mother should see.

“parts that only a mother should see” ??

      • Faye May 16, 2017 / 8:00 pm

My reaction seeing hairless Guinea Pig the first time. ?

That groomer should be smacked with a rolled up newspaper, but at least the owner didn’t do it deliberately. Time heals most bad haircuts, thank goodness!

    • Starfish May 16, 2017 / 2:22 pm

Or as my uncle once put it: “What’s the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut? Two weeks.”

      • Brouhaha May 16, 2017 / 2:32 pm

That might apply to a men’s haircut, but I’ve personally had my hair #$^&ed up enough times in ways that two weeks wouldn’t have made the difference, that I simply cut my own hair now.

And I will admit that I have certainly #$@#ed my own hair up, but I never claimed to be a trained professional.

        • allein ? May 16, 2017 / 3:28 pm

That’s partly why I keep my hair long and mostly one length (slight layering at the ends and sides). It’s hard to mess up and no one notices when it grows out for a month or six.

        • Elaine C Williamson May 16, 2017 / 4:56 pm

And the price is right. ?

          • Brouhaha May 16, 2017 / 5:42 pm

The price is always right, and I’m always available for last minute touch ups!

            Also, no gossipy small talk.

            • Alice Shortcake May 17, 2017 / 3:16 am

God, yes. I used to HATE having my hair cut for that reason alone. Now I cut my own and just talk to myself!

  4. Faye May 16, 2017 / 2:46 pm

A lot off the entire cat? Strange concept.

  5. Doug May 16, 2017 / 2:51 pm

I blame the cat .. It’s always the cat’s fault (even when the dog is to blame) *GRINS*

    • Smartypants May 16, 2017 / 3:18 pm

I don’t know – I saw a Tweet from the cat this morning – “The dog set me up!” 😀

I went back and checked and I was surprised at the number of down votes on the original post (25) I wonder if people were simply saying they didn’t like the way the cat was shaved and not that they didn’t like the post itself. I sure hope that’s what it was because the photo was funny and it did belong on Cutetropolis. I hope NTMTOM doesn’t take those down votes to seriously.

    • debg May 16, 2017 / 3:27 pm

Exactly. I’m still giggling over it, and the cat will either accept his fate or exact a lovely revenge.

    • Smartypants May 16, 2017 / 4:51 pm

I agree, I totally didn’t read the downvotes as directed at Mr. Mike.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike May 16, 2017 / 5:46 pm

I don’t take the downvotes personally, but when there are a lot of them, I do note them as moments when my judgement was a little off. I made some mistakes at Cute Overload as well and I’ve always tried to learn from them.

      • Ricky's Mom May 16, 2017 / 6:29 pm

And that’s why we love you!

    • Amyliz May 16, 2017 / 8:21 pm

My feelings exactly, Gigi. I think we all know NTMTOM well enough to know that he loves our anipals and would never post anything that was cruel towards them.

  7. EAG46 May 16, 2017 / 3:27 pm

Poor Jin Jin. At least the hair is growing back so he looks a little more like himself.

  8. Laura May 16, 2017 / 6:10 pm

You didn’t make a mistake posting the original picture, Mike. Honestly, I laugh myself silly even now when I see that poor cat! It’s not like they hurt it or anything, and I doubt even its pride was touched. Cats really don’t care WHAT they look like — they’re cats and they know they’re in charge, period!

I’m just glad that Jin Jin’s owners took the bad cut well. Needless to say, I doubt that friend will get to take the kitty to the groomers for them again, however…

Totally off topic but I went to the park after work and saw a teeny baby deer as I was pulling in. By the time I parked and walked over to where they were (they’re inside a fenced area in the park with a bunch of other animals) s/he and mama had disappeared into the enclosure somewhere. I walked along the fence and didn’t see the baby deer but I saw a little mama duck and her babies waddling around in the trees (I saw them last week by the pond but I guess they decided to take a little field trip). There were 8 or 9 babies…they were moving too much to count. Then further on I saw a red-headed woodpecker pecking at a tree, and a big turkey with a blue head right up by the fence.

I just wish my phone took better pictures.

Ok, if there were a Cat Wrecks website, I would visit it every day. It could have crazy cat haircuts like this one, and also stuff that cats have wrecked.

  11. Elizabeth May 16, 2017 / 10:37 pm

I wish I could snuggle the poor kitty, but I am so grateful for Cutetropolis these days. It is nice to have a reliable happy place.

Look, this is what I think happened…

One time, I decided to give myself bangs and this is how it went down:

Snips #1 & #2: This is easy! I don’t know why the stylist told me I shouldn’t have bangs. He has NO idea what he’s talking about.

Snip #3: Ummm…okay that looks a little off. But I’ll just even it off on the other side and it’ll be fine.

Snips #4 to #7: oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit…..

Snips #8 to #10: oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit…..

For next 3 to 4 weeks, I wear a hat and for the rest of my life, I have never doubted the advice from a stylist about my hair.

This right here is why I don’t even attempt to divide my unibrow. I’d end up with nothing but bare skin and sadness.

      • Alice Shortcake May 17, 2017 / 3:27 pm

Bare Skin and Sadness: the name of my new indie band.
