Do Talk With Your Mouth Full

Before we get to the video, a shout-out to A. H. for her tip. Thank you! Now, you may remember Teddy Bear the talking porcupine, who loved to vocalize as he ate. Time now to meet another chatty chewer: Kemosabe, who lives with dozens of other exotic animals at Animal Wonders Montana. (via Laura H.)

Yes! That nose was just begging for a booping!
Although its being a porcupine’s nose would have made me think twice. Several times.

I’m ded, too much cute. From wanting to boop the nose, to touching the toes, tickling the belly and listening to the cute squeaks. I’m surprised she didn’t put a treat in the basket that Kemosabe, quite deftly, kept pulling up by the rope.

The nose boop and the reaching out to grab the finger both have me melting. I wonder if the chattiness is a general porcupine thing or if we just got lucky to come across a couple of talkers.

And if anybody wants some more of Kemosabe, here’s the latest video (from about a month ago):

Ded. Too cute! Would using the rope to pull the basket up be considered tool use!?

(I was frustrated that no banana went into the basket.)

The grabby hands are killing me.

I thought Teddy Bear was unique but apparently porcupines speak and are adorable! it’s amazing how often just paying attention to a species reveals they are cute and/or interesting and/or smart.

That’s some serious booplesnoot! Lovely interaction with hoomin.

So adorable! Everyone, my dear friend’s Corgi, who had been diagnosed with liver cancer just two weeks ago, died in my friend’s arms today, just two hours short of a vet’s appointment to be put down. I think the way it happened is actually better, but I am heartbroken for my friend. Please, whatever your inclination, send healing thoughts and/or prayers, to Lindsay. Thanks!

    • Starfish May 17, 2017 / 9:27 pm

Sending all the love I can, Amyliz. He’s in a better place now.

      • Amyliz May 17, 2017 / 9:38 pm

Thank you, Starfish! I love that this is an articulate, intelligent site but f#*k cancer! It takes too many precious lives, including my mother’s! OK, I feel better…thanks for letting me vent, and for me, that was a vent!

    • Duckie ? May 17, 2017 / 9:46 pm

Downy hugs of support and consolation are coming your way.

      • Amyliz May 17, 2017 / 9:59 pm

Thanks, Duckie, on behalf of my friend. I hope things are looking up for you!

A very touching story. Given that death is unavoidable, having her dog die in her arms, while intensely painful, is also wonderful in a a way.

      • Amyliz May 17, 2017 / 10:39 pm

Yes, better at home and in her mama’s arms, as opposed to the stress of going to the vet. (Nothing against kind and caring veterinarians bur animals don’t see it the same way!)

We (= 2 cats & 1 monster) are sending healing purrs to you and Lindsay!

Amyliz, so sorry to hear about Linday’s loss. She’s in my thoughts today (as are you, since we so easily catch the sadness of our friends).

    • Catwhisperer May 18, 2017 / 12:05 pm

You’re a good friend, AmyLiz. Sympathies to Lindsay. Have you guided her to our slightly off-center community? You know we would all welcome her enthusiastically!

    • Murray C May 18, 2017 / 2:52 pm

Awwww, so sorry! But good she didn’t have to take him to the vet.

I’m dealing with a very sick Clementine – I was away over the week end and my friend who was boarding my buns left a text that she wasn’t well and I had to ask that she take Clemmie tot he vet. She has an ear infection, they think, but she has head tilt and her eyes are darting. Sub-cu fluids and syringe feeding along with giving meds will be my story for a while.

Kemosabe is so darned adorable. It makes me think of my dad – whenever he saw someone with a big nose he’d say “How’ja like that full of nickels?” Dad was such a wag.

      • Ricky's Mom May 19, 2017 / 6:29 am

How is Clementine doing today, Murray C?

        • Murray C May 19, 2017 / 7:08 am

Thanks for asking – she’s showing some signs of improvement but she hasn’t really pooped much that I can tell. And she has neurological issues – she’s stumbling and still has head tilt. They said that can take some time to straighten out. I may have to add another med to her regimen. Thankfully she was quite active this morning when I came down to see her and she ate a little. It’s a bit of a tightrope trying to figure out how much to syringe feed and how much to let her eat on her own, but at least she’s eating something. How’s your little guy doing?

  9. Brouhaha May 18, 2017 / 9:01 am

How come no one thinks it’s cute when I make these noises while eating? Geez! I can be prickly too.

    • Murray C May 19, 2017 / 7:08 am

      Hee, hee.

  10. LunaChickFringe May 18, 2017 / 12:12 pm

Stab Rabbit! That’s no fair not putting any treats in the basket!

    • Murray C May 18, 2017 / 2:54 pm

Stab rabbit? Is that an expletive or a name for porcupine? Either way I like it.

      • LunaChickFringe May 18, 2017 / 3:32 pm

Last year there was some very popular articles circulating centering around “the internet names animals and it’s everything”…or words to that effect. It was a viral hashtag for a minute. A quick Google and I found one, http://www.sadanduseless.com/2016/06/internet-names-animals/. They are mostly hilarious. A couple have kind of survived into common usage. Trash Panda for raccoons is one I love and use. Danger Noodle for snakes is another favorite along with Nope for spiders. Stab Rabbit for porcupine also stuck with me. It’s so perfectly descriptive.
