And finally: The Little Wombat That Could

Awww. We met Sophie and Scottie two days ago, in the Dodo story about Sophie’s bed. They certainly do get around.

    Yay for all rescues!

Sophie is very sick and in the hospital right now. Her humans are taking donations – she apparently had the largest hairball the vet had ever seen and needed surgery, but vomited and aspirated some and is on a ventilator now.

        🙁

      • Gigi the cat lady May 31, 2017 / 9:35 am

Here’s hoping she makes a full recovery.

Dear sweet Sophie, we’re all pulling for you. Scottie needs you!

        • Ricky's Mom May 31, 2017 / 11:50 am

I’m happy to share the news that for now, Sophie’s fund is over the asked for amount. As I write this, the fund has collected $19,228, and the goal was $13,000. However, the goal may yet be adjusted upward again, as new estimates for various procedures and care come in. Readers can check for themselves at

      Sophie didn’t make it.

Stop me before I shred again? You really think any cat is thinking that?!?

That is one tough couch to withstand those wombat claws.

Sophie and Scottie are still the cutest couple ever.

And in case anyone was wondering, I am not wearing hedgehog socks today.

    • Duckie ? May 31, 2017 / 11:45 am

      Of course not. It’s Wednesday.

      • allein ? May 31, 2017 / 12:00 pm

I actually don’t have any socks today. I’ll see what I pull out of the drawer when I get home. I don’t have wombats. I will have to try to remedy this.

        • Duckie ? May 31, 2017 / 12:12 pm

I have this overwhelming urge to suggest that people post addresses so that we can send each other things.
          Mass mailing of socks.

            The Cutetropolis Sock Exchange

            • Duckie ? May 31, 2017 / 3:26 pm

              Mike, any thoughts on this?

              • Not That Mike The Other Mike May 31, 2017 / 4:28 pm

I would not want to allow posting home addresses or other contact info, because it’s impossible to know who sees it or how it gets used.

What would be needed is a system of private messaging over which users could share information voluntarily one-on-one. The site doesn’t have that capacity now, but I think it can be added.

Perhaps I should do a post requesting feedback on the site up to this point, and let people suggest new features.

        Haha!!!!
        Must have wombat socks. :)!

          • tara June 1, 2017 / 6:35 am

Oh thanks Mike! But alas these are for children and my feet are well beyond that size.

But don’t you worry! You and Allein aren’t the only ones with mad internet sleuthing skills. I shall find something!

*cracks knuckles and rubs palms together vigorously before attacking keyboard*

            • tara June 1, 2017 / 6:42 am

Ta Da! (Boy one can really go down a worm hole, uh, excuse me, wombat hole,of wombat products! My Goodness!)

              I found these at http://sillisox.com.au/product/wombat/

And you can have them in any color!

      • tara May 31, 2017 / 5:33 pm

Oh Duckie! Thanks for this – I’m still giggling about the perfect delivery!
        “of course not! It’s Wednesday”
        and image.
        duh! just beautiful.

I like the idea of the sock exchange, but (agree with Mike) don’t want to post my personal info. What about a virtual exchange? Where did you find those socks Duckie? I, for one, would be happy to have Wombat Wednesday Sock Day. We can all wear them in good spirit together.

Edit: sorry – does this make sense? (we can purchase them ourselves?) Apparently I used up all of my clear communication skills at work.

        • Duckie ? May 31, 2017 / 6:51 pm

          Thank you!

Amazon tends to sell just about any kind of sock you want. Just remember to access through Mike’s website, and don’t forget to post images of your socks!

Personally, I think Mike needs to post a PO box number, so we can send HIM socks!

    That’s one tenacious little wombat!

I love Olaf, it always amazes me that dogs that go through horrendous things can still trust and love people.

The world’s sweetest golden retriever, Rusty, who we adopted when we lived in New Orleans, was found wandering the streets at about age 1-1/2 with multiple BBs in him, poor baby! Fortunately, they weren’t anywhere that could cause issues; on the foster blog Three Tiny Tabbies, she currently has a kitty who got shot with a BB that was lodged in her spine and has caused her major health problems, barely able to walk and no movement at all in her tail! I honestly DO NOT UNDERSTAND how people can be so awful to sweet animals.

Rusty loved everybody he ever met, and was my particular baby for the 8 years we had him (he developed a massive abdominal tumor and had to be sent off to the Bridge). I loved that dog so much, still do, and miss him every day in spite of our current wonderful Idiots! he was the world’s dumbest dog, but made of pure love. I’m so glad that people are able to help these animals who’ve been abused and show them that the love they deserve is theirs every minute for the rest of their lives!

      • Amyliz May 31, 2017 / 8:14 pm

Laura, Rusty was blessed to have a home with you for 8 years!

Yay, how nice to see the Furrtographer again! Diablo is such a handsome, dashing kitty.

  5. debg May 31, 2017 / 11:34 am

Has Josh N. found Cutetropolis at last? We’ve missed his lovely photos!

    • Laura May 31, 2017 / 5:26 pm

If he hasn’t found us, someone needs to let him know that he’s missed and would be welcomed here with open arms!

      • Duckie ? May 31, 2017 / 6:53 pm

        Done!

    • Amyliz May 31, 2017 / 8:16 pm

Yes, yay for the furrtographer! Always enjoyed his work back at the Old Ranch!

  6. Faye May 31, 2017 / 5:51 pm

Ahhh wow Wombat socks. Must be folded into a cube shape.

    • Duckie ? May 31, 2017 / 6:56 pm

No no no, Faye. They come out that way naturally.

(Duckie wanders off thinking about four pronged spool knitters and brown wool.)

        Sock extruder?

  7. Kar June 1, 2017 / 11:07 am

Love the idea of writing comments about the cats. Good thing that they’re telling people about the kitties, but not TOO much about them.

    Like:

I will awaken you at 3am because I’m lonely and need snuggling.
You will never pee alone again
That ‘lovely’ vase that your MIL bought? Gone.
I like to be fed at 6am. Even if the bowl is full, I like it fresh
I’d start putting money aside for a new couch, and a bedpost, and that fringed throw rug…

    • allein ? June 1, 2017 / 11:52 am

You will wear fur whether you like it or not.

Last night I went to my parents’ for dinner. Stayed to watch Jeopardy and Stars came and sat on my lap for a bit. I think it was calculated: she needed to leave her light gray fur all over my black pants so I would get the lint roller out before I left. When I did so, she came trotting over and when I didn’t roll her immediately she cried. This cat does not talk…but when you pull out the lint roller she gets rather vocal. I do not know why she loves it so much.

      • Kar June 1, 2017 / 2:08 pm

Maybe she thinks its as close to mutual grooming as she’ll get with you. Unless you have one of those weird cat combs that you hold in your mouth.
