And we don’t even know what he looks like!

That was awesome, not only the way he rescued the hummingbird but his excitement and awe when it recovered. Definitely MoC calendar cover-worthy!

When I lived in Lalaland, my livingroom had big sliding glass doors, and about 5 feet away opposite the door was a birds of paradise plant. It bloomed at least 8 months out of the year, so I had hummingbirds ALL the time without ever needing to put out a feeder. It was fantastic! The hummingbirds were terrific entertainment, and there were always several of them drinking from those deep flowers.

I had a similar experience. We have a two car garage that is higher at one side and has an I-beam running across it. It gets really hot in there. A Hummingbird had found his way in and was flying around the high part of the garage. It was obvious he was not going to figure out he had to fly down to get back out the door. I got our tall a-frame ladder and followed him back and forth a few times. He was getting tired, and I was getting sweaty. The last time I slowly climbed up the ladder facing him. I was even slower when I raised my hand behind him on the other side of the I-beam. I was as slow and gentle as I could be closing my hand around him. I carried him straight to the Hummingbird feeder and he sat on my hand for a few seconds while he got his first drink and then flew away. It was an awesome experience!
Our hummingbird feeder is right outside our dining room/kitchen window. Whenever anybody says, “Hummingbird”, everyone knows to immediately freeze. We stay frozen for as long as the hummingbird is there because if you move he will fly away. They are beautiful and amazing to watch. 🙂

Lol, I do the same thing. Some of them seem nervous around people, while others hang around, maybe to stake their claim to the food? many times a hummingbird zooms up to the feeder and the “owner” flies out of the tree to intercept it. cranky little hummingbeasts….

      • HaHa June 7, 2017 / 10:36 am

Ha! Absolutely! Ours is a one at a time feeder. If I ever see 2, it is one zooming around after the other to chase him off. They truly are amazingly fast! And sound like those great big fat low pitched buzzing bees. I am still surprised how loud the buzzing is when outside by the flowers and one comes by before he realizes I am out and about. Hearing that sound causes the same reaction as someone saying, “Hummingbird.”

What a wonderful person you are!

When I had hummies one summer in Kansas, I could sit on my tiny porch, practically under the feeder, while they refreshed themselves. Several times, birds flew so close I could practically feel their wings on my cheek. It was a magical summer.

I too have helped several exhausted hummers. You can hardly be gentle enough picking them up, they seem to be no heavier than a cotton ball. By bringing them over to the feeder and holding them while they drink it’s like putting new batteries in them–soon they are up and back to zipping around. Still it feels like a miracle. I have the same reaction as this man did.

    Go, little mouse!

Did anyone see the mind reader guy on America’s Got Talent last night? Watching Simon Cowell snuggling a tiny fluffy kitten was the best part of the whole show.

The lady who dressed up as her dog looks more like the Abominable Snowman. Kinda creepy.

I love the “don’t smash the window” sign, but we really need to know what the dog’s favourite music is.

I’m gonna guess he’s a Temple of the Dog fan.

But probably won’t be going on a Hunger Strike.

I love the Bangor PD facebook page. The writer is funny. I was born in Maine, and have relatives there. One aunt lives in Bangor, but most of them still live in Patten (pop. just over 1000), where my mother lived when I was born.
The hummingbird story was awesome. Poor bird wore himself out trying to escape. I bet it takes a lot of energy to flap those wings so fast.

Hummingbird video put me through the gamut of emotions: worry, fear, sadness, hope, happiness, relief. That’s a lot to go through in less than 3 minutes.

But it was worth it. Gonna go watch it again. ?

I have a view out one of my bedroom windows of the neighbor’s yellow Trumpet flowers. The bloom in abundance and the flowers last through October. Many Humminbirds visit. They even rest in the foliage.

I have also been treated to seeing a squirrel taking an actual nap there in the heat of the day.

Just when I’m thinking all people are the worst, I see this hummingbird resQ vid and it warms my heart. Thank you, hummingbird resQ guy, for being awesome.

I had to watch the video of the therapy dog too. Who knew you could teach a dog to read?
