I’ve never been able to build so much as a box in Lego. How do people DO that????

My parents had a pirate ship in the basement for years (possibly decades) until they finally made my brother take it home.

Waaaay back when I had the original Lego Mindstorms set. I used to make tanks that would bump around the basement like a Roomba. Now I spend my free time programming virtual tanks that explode virtual fascists. 😀

The secret is to break a large problem into simpler ones. So instead of “build a house” you start with the individual features you want–maybe you want a roof that’s peaked just so, or windows with a certain shape. You build those elements by themselves, then connect them. Every time you paint yourself into a corner and have to backtrack you’ll learn a bit more, and make it farther with the next attempt.

This approach is the methodological core of basically every engineering field, from structural to aerospace to software.

In time, you too can build lego robots to use as desk decorations and play with when you’re supposed to be working!

“when you’re supposed to be working!”

Wait, is that what I’m doing here?! Oh, um…

It’s not all that different in drawing, breaking things down into component parts to get the underlying structure and shapes.

I’m so happy for Gavel. Being too friendly is never a bad thing for a dog and now he’s got a job that will give him plenty of opportunities to be his wonderful self.

Yes, and I love it that in his new job he manages to get photographed with a bag of kibble on his head. I feel like, wherever he goes in life, he’s going to be happily coloring outside the lines. “Rules, schmules!”

What would be really cool is if someone were to video a cat walking from several angles, create a computer model of the action, and then use that model to create a series of LEGO sculptures of the movement. Then stop-motion animate the models to create video of a LEGO cat walking.

That totally sounds like something one would find on Instructables – I just saw one where the person 3-D printed a Zoetrope of a tiny walking elephant figurine.

I seem to remember the music video for a White Stripes song being something like that.

      Someone HAS to do this!

They have a gazillion Lego stop motion videos on You Tube. Pretty sure most of them are made by 10-12yr olds and they are shockingly sophisticated and AWESOME!

I don’t know what the doggy wanted at the bottom of that puddle but he had a good time getting it. I don’t think he’ll enjoys his bath half as much as he did getting dirty. LOL!!!

Don’t you love when he opens his eyes! all mud and these two little peepers! What a hilariously silly pooch!
