Look What I Did!

A shout-out today to J. D. for gracing the tip jar. Thanks to you, and also to the monthly contributors for your ongoing support of the site. And now, courtesy of Andrew Y., let’s meet a ferret who has something very important to show us, and she is not taking “no” for an answer.

Does she want help with the babies? Is she just showing her great thing to the large nice food-giver?

    • allein ? June 22, 2017 / 3:12 pm

The description on the video says “ferret mom tryin to get me to baby sit.” 🙂

      • dubravkamcvmd June 22, 2017 / 3:22 pm

        That’s even better.

      • mimidale June 23, 2017 / 11:14 am

That’s exactly what I thought was happening! It seemed so similar to what my mom’s Chihuahua did when she had puppies. Mama dog would try to drag the box that held the babies to my mom, especially at night. If my mom would pick up the box on her lap or the bed, mama dog would run off to her crate to sleep! She totally wanted someone to babysit!!!

Can ya’ blame her, though? That’s a lotta babies!

  2. belphebe June 22, 2017 / 2:50 pm

“Come here! See my babies! No! You can’t have that one! Give it back! No, don’t leave! Come back here!”

    🙂
    What a proud mama.

      Perfect! You speak ferret!?

  3. beemoused June 22, 2017 / 2:51 pm

I almost get the feeling that she expects the all-powerful food-giver to guard the little ones. It speaks very highly of the person that she trusts him so much with her little ones.

My head exploded from the cute

    • jerzowa June 22, 2017 / 3:49 pm

Mine too, but I still have a grin on my (exploded) face! 🙂

I feel like we’re supposed to hand out cigars now.

    What a proud Mama!

I had a cat that insisted I sit by her side while she gave birth. I felt very privileged.

    • Murray C June 22, 2017 / 7:07 pm

I had that experience once as well – it does make one feel special.

  7. allein ? June 22, 2017 / 3:03 pm

    Uhhhh…..*thud*…

  8. Dana June 22, 2017 / 3:07 pm

That is so precious on so many levels.

    • Duckie ? June 22, 2017 / 3:19 pm

You took the words right out of my mouth.
I’ve never seen baby ferrets before, and I had no idea they made such adorable sounds. I will babysit any time that mommy asks. I just hope she doesn’t bite me. I assume it doesn’t hurt?

  9. Circe June 22, 2017 / 4:00 pm

Maybe she thought the fingers were more babies, and had to be put back in the nest? Mama instincts on overdrive!

    • Caz June 22, 2017 / 4:07 pm

That’s how i took it! You are my baby too, where do you think you’re going!? So sweet 🙂

      • Murray C June 22, 2017 / 7:06 pm

Me, too! I thought she was thinking his fingers looked like her babies and wanted to wrangle them into her nest. Doggone adorable! /and such plaintive sweet squeaks and chirps.

Ferret bebehs–ditto with the thud and now ded from the cute. That’s one cute, persistent mama. When my husband and I were first married, we had up to 4 ferrets at one time. Loved every moment with them.

  11. Mal June 22, 2017 / 4:13 pm

My cat used to do that. She wanted all her bebehs in one place, where she could keep an eye on them, including me.

  12. debg June 22, 2017 / 4:23 pm

What an adorable family. I had no idea baby knee socks were so teeny and cute!

    • Duckie ? June 22, 2017 / 5:16 pm

At this point, they’re just ankle socks.
      Bobby socks, or sandal socks.

      • 6rabbits June 22, 2017 / 8:55 pm

        ???

  13. Faye June 22, 2017 / 4:36 pm

I bet that Human started to lactate. I did.

    Such trust.

    • Amyliz June 22, 2017 / 6:31 pm

I know! So trusting it brings tears to my eyes! (Good tears and I’m smiling, as well!)

    • Blue Footed Booby June 23, 2017 / 8:18 am

Me too! And my chest hair abruptly sucked back into my body. Currently on intravenous whiskey to reverse the effects.

      • Dana June 23, 2017 / 8:20 am

        ?

  14. Rachel June 22, 2017 / 5:24 pm

Aww, how cute mama ferret is!

  15. BB/VA June 22, 2017 / 6:25 pm

    Box o’ ferrets!!

    • allein ? June 22, 2017 / 7:14 pm

Is that one of those monthly subscription boxes? Where do I order?

      • Smartypants June 22, 2017 / 8:14 pm

        ‘Hairy & David’

        • allein ? June 22, 2017 / 8:16 pm

          ?

        • Faye June 23, 2017 / 2:32 am

          Ha!

  16. 6rabbits June 22, 2017 / 8:57 pm

That is beyond cute! Never seen baby ferrets before–I want to hold them all at once! Mama has such a cute face, too.

  17. rvman June 23, 2017 / 7:37 pm

I’m fairly confident mama’s mommy instincts had gone nuts. Notice that the babies are the basically same size and shape as the fingers mama is trying to drag into the nest.

It happened to me once with a cat – I was down on the floor ‘mewing’ at the kittens, and the mama cat tried to drag me by the nose into the nesting box.
