See, we were smart enough to not ask “are we there yet?”

We asked “are we almost there?” Because if we were still in the car, then clearly we were not there yet.

    Smooshed nerves. 😀

My son’s elementary school was close enough to a number of field trip sites that they’d often just walk to them. And the teacher had a regular reply to that eternal kids’ question: “We’re almost halfway there.” No matter how close they were.

Needless to say, that was the reply we immediately adopted and have used ever since. After the first couple of times, it annoys the kid as much as their question annoys you, so a complete win-win!

Reminds me of me and my sister on the 400 miles (650 km) yearly trips to visit my grand-parents in New Brunswick. My dad would leave around midnight to avoid traffic and so we would be sleeping part of the way because the rest of the time we would be fighting. The only relief was the one stop he would make at The Martinet, a restaurant that was about half way there.

My father would drive us back from New Jersey shore at midnight – in our 1940 Plymouth with the woolen seats. I was about 5. He pulled into a turnoff and got out of the car saying “I have to see a man about a puppy”. Well I got SO excited – a PUPPY! a PUPPY! Imagine my disappointment when I found out he was only using a euphemism for taking a whiz. I don’t think I ever really forgave him for it.

How did the samoyed’s paws get up there? Moebius dog?

It’s not the samoyed’s paws. If you look closely there is some black flecks in it. The other dog just has white feet with black ticking.
