Kitten in the Kitchen

Jun’s Kitchen is a scrumptious YouTube channel of delightful Asian dishes, prepared by Jun under the watchful eye of his cat Kohaku. Normally the food is for Jun, but in this video, he prepares a special feast for Kohaku in order to stage the most unfair taste test of all time: Will the cat prefer a chicken/seafood souffle to store-bought kibble? The answer may surprise you!*

A five-star submission from Paul P. (* and no, it won’t.)

    Smart kitty. Lucky kitty.

I thought sure it would eat the dry kibble after Jun had gone to all that work to create such a yummy dish for him!! Kohaku is really interested in what Jun is doing and is a great supervisor. 🙂

    I somehow missed that! LOL

      You too, huh? ?

My kitty supervises dish washing from atop the fridge as well. She use to have the habit of giving me face love while I was doing the dishes, but we had to stop that as she would leave tickley bits of fur on my nose and my hands were wet so I couldn’t get relief!

I would have eaten it myself if the cat didn’t want it!

Geezus, seriously. He ice-bathed the cooking salmon, tuna, chicken so it wouldn’t be overdone or tough. And. the. knife. *food porn*

I would probably as well, classy act that I am!

If you liked the knife, go his channel and look up his video about getting a secondhand rusty chef’s knife cheap and rehabilitating it. It’s a good watch.

Everything about this is just delightful. The soft lighting, the ever-so-fresh ingredients, the patient and attentive kitty watching the proceedings with such intensity, the offers of a sniff at every stage or preparation, the gorgeous final product complete with a delicate broth, and the lovely companionship during the washing up. What a loved kitty – warms my heart.

What a good kitty!! If someone had been preparing chocolate in front of me like that I’m sure my fingers would have become involved! Accidentally, of course!

If you watch any of their other videos .. you will see that Kohaku *IS* the boss of this outfit.
Always watching to be sure Jun is doing it correctly .. After all, those stupid humans will screw it up if you blink for a moment. (I know I do, just ask my Beagle .. LOL!)

Kohaku may be the boss, but Jun has some seriously impressive knife skills — and a seriously impressive knife! I’m always amazed at chefs who are able to develop skills like that. I can’t imagine how long he’s practiced to make it look so easy!

I was so impressed with how calm kitty was. Most cats I’ve known would have enthusiastically joined in the preparations right from the beginning. Cats have an unwritten law regarding tasting the food as it’s being prepared, to make sure it’s fresh.
And yes, I was mildly surprised at the end, but pleasantly. I fully expected the kibble to have disappeared. Silly Duckie.

Yes! I was amazed the cat didn’t jump right in. And the chef has very impressive skills and I loved the cooking device. Want one of those! Very cute video.

Amazed at the cat’s restraint! I know NO cats like that!

Somebody get this kid a show on the Cooking Channel/Foodnetwork! And the occasional special on Animal Planet! Rather watch him than Guy Fieri / Rachel Ray any day.

Reminds me of a story about Lolcats, a famous cat in Japan actually had a marketing contract. They literally paid in fish. The owners were kind of stunned but ended up eating the fish themselves. Assume that they shared with the cats!

False advertising! The box clearly states 12.

      • 6rabbits June 28, 2017 / 4:45 pm

        ?

      • Smartypants June 28, 2017 / 6:58 pm

‘contents may have settled during shipping…’

    • Brouhaha June 28, 2017 / 4:36 pm

      Silly kittens, that’s for goggies!

      • Patty June 28, 2017 / 7:01 pm

They spent at least 3 hrs playing and napping in that box yesterday. It’s a tight fit for 4 kittens, but they made it work.

        • Faye June 28, 2017 / 9:33 pm

          Adorable.

    • fkaWaldenPond June 28, 2017 / 11:12 pm

The different coloured ear liners!! *gah and thud*

Aw Jun! I love him & his wife on YouTube and their adorable kitties. Y’all, Kohaku also rides around on Jun’s shoulders. He’s super chill. Think one those videos are linked at the end…

  15. Blakeney June 28, 2017 / 9:10 pm

I second JLAMusing – Jun and his wife are very nice people. Their videos are alwa ys interesting and they seem to be very good to their kitties!

Ok, now I know how parents feel when they see posts like “I make my son cartoon bento boxes every day!” or “I turn my kid’s lunch into a beloved character made out of wholesome organic ingredients!”

I… I open cans for my kitties. I feel so inadequate.

    • kodalai June 29, 2017 / 2:04 pm

To be fair, Jun obviously loves to cook, so it’s not just a chore for him. 😉
