While this site spends considerable time on the problem of cats in boxes, there is another issue that is rarely addressed: basket addiction. Here is a typical basket case, sent by reader Kerry K.: “Here’s what we call our almost 11 yr old bun, Pepper, ‘bunny-in-a-basket” because if there’s one around, she wants to sit in it.”

That’s just about the cutest thing! What a gorgeous bun – and in such good nick for an elder-bun! Congratulations of being a good bunny parent.
Pepper the bunny loves basket and Maru loves boxes. My cat Boo says they are both wrong, for comfort nothings beats the living room armchair, and he doesn’t intend to move until diner.
Good plan! Lovely cat.
Black bunny. Oooo shiny.
Yeah, my Pepper Bean finally made it here. Pepper has just a white dot on her nose, I wish that would have shown. We’ve loved her since adopting her from the shelter at 8-10 weeks old. Isn’t it something how we let our fur bebehs take over the house/apt and let them think we live with them. At least that’s how my bunnehs have always taken it, even though I occasionally have to remind them otherwise.
“WHAT!? Bunnies don’t own the house? I highly disapprove!” scoffs Theo, and adds a foot thump for good measure.
A tiskit, a tasket, a bun-bun in a basket.
Well what else should a bunny sit in?
This particular basket is the perfect size for carrying buns… y’know, back to my place.
HA!
The benefit is basically that baskets and boxes become both bed and breakfast.
All my buns have prefered CHEWING the baskets..
She is lovely! And she’s clearly been practicing her Easter pose. “I bring the dark chocolate – the other bunny brings the milk chocolate and pastels.”
I had no idea that rabbits lived this long!
None of my others have. One only lived 3 yrs ( unknown medical issues we didn’t know about) and our bonded pair both lived 7 yrs- 7-1/2 yrs. I treasure every extra day I’m getting with Pepper and she’s still getting around okay. Now, we have our daughter’s bunneh and Leo, is a rescue bun, about 4 yrs old.
We only had one that lived to that age and the rest, like yours, Luv Bunny, lived anywhere from 3 to 8 – 8 is supposedly average they say. I’ve had some real heartache over the ones that died too young – I blame every one of them on me. My current pair are 3 1/2 and 5 or so. After I had that issue with Clementine in May I am so grateful to have been able to get her through it and see her be her bouncy old self.
Many pet buns live shorter lives because A) they were pet store bunnies–think puppy mills, B) their humans didn’t know how to feed them properly–which can cause all sorts of digestive issues or C) house/yard accidents, esp. under the care of young children. My oldest bun, a Polish, lived to be 13. 3 years! I had two buns live to 12. I had one adoptee who only lived to 5. Usually I start “preparing myself” when they turn seven, but nine years seems to be the standard for mine–which is always way too short!☹️
Very true – which is why people need to do their research before getting a rabbit. Good for you, 6RABBITS, for being such a good bunny caregiver.
How about a cat in a basket?
Awwwww, what a beauty.
Ooohhh, pretty markings on your cat. I don’t know many cat breeds, so is that a purebred or a mix?
Thanks! She was a Bengal. I’m not sure what they call the different colors of Bengals, but most of them are a darker brown with black spots or a silver/gray with black spots. I always thought she looked like a sepia version!
