And finally: Bonus Maru and Hana

Last Friday, Maru and Hana celebrated Tanabata, which Japanese know as the Star Festival, but which M & H probably regard simply as “crinkly paper on tree day.” (via Andrew Y.)

Ducks on the Lam! Would be even better if they were on an actual Lamb.

I’ve always thought baby seals were super cute, so I would have loved to get my very own four legged cat/seal, I think he’s adorable!

I was really hoping that Maru’s owner would dangle a box in front of him.
The itty bitty snakelings made me squeak!

I have Cricket by the open French doors, and he is yelling at the birds outside. I have threatened to remove half of his little feathered vocal chords, but he just hung upside down and screeched at me.
I offered him a Qtip last night, but he had absolutely no interest in it, other than seeing it as something to get mad at. He hunched down and bristled all his feathers at it. I half expected to hear a tiny growl, but when I laughed at him, he dropped a token of disapproval on my arm and stalked off to beat the snot out of the bag of corn chips hubby was trying to hide from him.

At least he didn’t draw blood?

I stopped to check on my friend’s cat, Violet, and when I got there she heard me coming and ran to the door as I opened it. She meowed and rubbed against my legs and I petted her, and then when I went to pick up her water bowls to refill them she swatted at me. I felt it on my ankle (through my jeans) but there was no visible scratch. It wasn’t until I was in my car that I realized she’d gotten me in two spots on my arm! She also bit my hand when I petted her before I left (didn’t break the skin), then she hissed at me.

I jokingly told my friend I charge $50 a day and a souvenir fridge magnet from their trip…I was not expecting him to leave 100 bucks for me! I do not plan to take it (I’ll probably take $40 for gas, since it’s not exactly on my way home, plus I borrowed several movies that he will get back whenever I’m done watching them…four of them are Monty Python).

Allein, do you mind making a side trip after work up here to Canada to pop in and check in on ol’ flappy-lips for a few days at the end of July?

          That’ll cost a little more than $100…

In the article about the tiny chameleons, they mention a new Story of Life app full of David Attenborough narrated goodness! I’m downloading it now; hopefully it’s as wonderful as it sounds!

I was just watching the cartoon “We Bare Bears” and they had a very cute takeoff of a David Attenborough narration – don’t know if it is one episode or a recurring thing.

Mugumogu’s technique is to give Maru and Hana some form of enrichment, then set up a camera and see what they do with it. Ordinarily they don’t seem self-conscious. But did anyone else feel like Hana was self-conscious in this one? Like she kept looking off-screen for direction? “Is this what you expected me to do with this, Mommy? Am I doing the right thing?”
