Bandit Is on the Move. Repeat, Bandit Is on the Move

Here’s a fascinating story of mutual self-interest in action. For about five years, a nearly blind raccoon visited this home near the forest for handouts. At some point, the raccoon attracted a pair of feral cat “bodyguards” who stayed close to him in order to get handouts themselves. Even after the old raccoon passed away, the bodyguards came to visit the house, and so the homeowner adopted them.

Yes, do read the whole story on YouTube. The video of the kitty escorts was sweet; the rest of the story brought tears.

      Me
      And My
      Shadows
      Strollin’ to the
      Patio

      Me
      And My
      Shadows
      That’s where all the
      Hungry critters go

      And when it’s
      Nom O’Clock
      We
      Climb the stair
      No need to knock
      Food is already there

      And it’s
      Me
      And My
      Shadows
      Not alone
      Cuz I have two!

What I got to see was very sweet. Amazing that the raccoon lived as long as it did – especially since I heard a train whistle during the video! I keep having an issue with YouTube – while I’m watching something suddenly an ad will come on from out of nowhere – there’s no sign of it when I scroll so I can’t turn it off – maddening!

This is no doubt a new YouTube monetizing device. Have you tried installing AdBlockPlus on your browser? It gets rid of an awful lot of such nuisances.

    Debbie Downer Alert.
    Dear Cutetropolitans,
We just received word that a job proposal we submitted earlier this summer has been rejected. As this job would have ended our indebtedness (preventing possible bankruptcy) and made several dreams come true, we are currently sitting at rock bottom wondering what happened. I’m not going to do anything stupid or permanent, but I’m tired, and I don’t want to play anymore.
Mike, if this is too depressing, please feel free to delete.

    • Gigi the cat lady August 21, 2017 / 1:51 pm

Sorry to hear that the job you were hoping for didn’t come through but don’t despair Duckie, I know it’s a cliche but, where there’s life there’s hope and remember that we at Cutetropolis love you.

    • debg August 21, 2017 / 1:57 pm

Duckie, so sorry. You know we’re here for you.

    • Ricky's Mom August 21, 2017 / 1:59 pm

Oh, Duckie, I’m so sorry! That is terribly hard news to learn. I’m not surprised you’re tired. Thank you for thinking of us enough to let us know you will stay safe. Cutetropolis loves you, even though right now the rest of the world is behaving like Stupidtropolis.

One foot, other foot. One foot, other foot. Stay hydrated (that’s often something we forget, and it’s very important when you are under stress.)

      Ricky sends puppy kisses.

      Duckie,
I’ve been in a similar situation and did have to declare bankruptcy. But things did turn around and now life (and finances) is great — save for my outlook on the current political situation.

Take heart, hang in please– it will get better.

      • AJ August 21, 2017 / 2:35 pm

I second Cheryl. Due to several unforeseen circumstances and the crappy economy during 2008-2010, did have to declare bankruptcy too but now things are 110% better than they used to be. I also understand being stressed to the max and being too dang tired to want to try to continue anymore. But just keep plugging away and hopefully the clouds will soon part. I’m very sorry that you have to go thru this. Please keep us updated.

    • dubravkamcvmd August 21, 2017 / 3:26 pm

So sorry. I know what it’s like to not want to play anymore. My problems have not been financial but taking care of my mother through ten years of dementia, my cats’ illnesses and deaths, and then my mother’s death and blah blah blah have left me often just not interested. One foot in front of the other, as Ricky’s Mom says. You say “we” and “our” so you are not alone – that’s a big thing. Keep us posted.

    • Emsthemonster August 21, 2017 / 3:55 pm

      Dear Duckie,

I wish I could say something clever and positive. Both you and I have had some rough times this year, I seriously hope this is already the bottom of the pit and the only way is up, up and up.
As the others have said, we love you and we will be here for you.

    • Smartypants August 21, 2017 / 4:08 pm

Duckie, I’m so sorry the proposal fell through. I don’t have anything wise to share, but I’ve definitely been in the Crap Boat too, so just want to send you hugs and know you’re not alone. We’re all here for each other.

    • Kar August 21, 2017 / 4:17 pm

duckie, i have faith that you will be ok.

We’ve all had those down periods and while we can’t feel exactly what you feel, we certainly empathize with your situations.

    • D B August 21, 2017 / 4:29 pm

So sorry to hear this. Please take care, and be good to yourselves while you weather this. Wishing you the best!

    • julie August 21, 2017 / 5:01 pm

      Dear Duckie –

Over the past year +, I have gotten to know you on Cutetropolis. I believe that you are kind, funny, smart and talented. You have people in your real life that love you dearly. You have people here at Cutetropolis that care for you in Internet life. We are rooting for you and support you. You can come here everyday for a virtual hug, if that’s what you want.

      Duckie:

I’m so sorry to hear of the news. (Of course I would not delete, since your friends here deserve a chance to share their sympathies.) Keep trying and keep letting your friends here and elsewhere lighten your load as best they can.

    • tara August 22, 2017 / 9:19 am

Dear Duckie, ditto to what everyone has said. It awful when life smacks you down. I read a wonderful quote once that at first read sounds odd, but on reflection is actually uplifting:
The bad news is – you are falling.
The good news is – there is no ground.
Sending you lots of thoughts of strength and floating.
      xotara

    • HaHa August 22, 2017 / 9:32 am

I am not always able to keep up on a regularly timely manner, but what has already been said is wonderful. Duckie, my best to you.

  4. Faye August 21, 2017 / 3:36 pm

Duckie, this is going to sound awful… I recommend bankruptcy as bad as it seems it takes the pressure off of each and every bill.
I grew up from 14 years old with my family losing our business and home and car in 1966. We left our old neighborhood and began anew. It took time for my father to re-establish credit etc. but he did. He even went bankrupt again.

There are books in the library on how to survive bankruptcy and how to re-establish credit.

My mother and I coped with huge depression and anxiety and my father felt humiliated. But we stuck together. I got counseling!

I urge you to get some counseling for yourself and together. Do not give up.

  5. Brouhaha August 21, 2017 / 4:19 pm

I’m so sorry Duckie. Financial issues are the biggest drag right after health problems. You’re not alone.

  6. Luv Bunny August 21, 2017 / 6:11 pm

I don’t know much about your woes, other than above mentioned financial ones but seek out services and people that can help and support your situation. I hope things turn around soon and when you can eventually look back on the darkness you experienced, I hope you can see a positive outcome in your life. ?

  7. Birdcage August 21, 2017 / 7:21 pm

Duckie: Thinking of you from afar, wishing things will go your way from here on out. Wishing I could take care of things for you for a while so you could have a break from it all.

  8. Murray C August 21, 2017 / 9:16 pm

Duckie, all I can add is a heartfelt wish that things turn around soon. The kind of slap- down you just experienced is so tough and hard on the psyche – please know, as the others have stated so beautifully, that we are here for you – I hope we can at least lift your spirits from time to time. And do keep in touch – otherwise we will worry.

  9. jerzowa August 22, 2017 / 11:10 am

    Dear Duckie,

Please accept warm, heartfelt hugs I am sending you from Poland. I wish I could do more for you. Is there anything I can do? If you can think of anything, please let me know.
