Austin Pets Alive needs help with efforts to transport shelter pets in Texas.

And finally: Rescue Yourself Next Time

What’s that you say, Lassie? Timmy’s fallen down a well? And he’s a total jerk?

I saw the hawk story the other day. I almost sent it in but then I guess I didn’t. Smart birdie. 🙂

They had a piece on the news last night about shelter dogs that were brought up from Texas to a shelter in NJ. One frightened pup looked so sweet; I wish I had the space to adopt him (I think he was a young Dalmation, or maybe a mix, but either way, likely too big/high energy to be happy in my house).

Doggie reading a book with his human at the park made my day.

First mongooses?! That calls for cake or something…
    Closest I could find was a meerkat…

(If I found a frog, live or not, in my salad, I’d have thrown up, too…)

I would’ve wanted more than a $5 gift card, I can tell you that.

I’ve done a lot of things in my life, but I can honestly say that i’ve never woken up from a tahini-lemon vinaigrette daze.

How about the lavish terrarium they set up for the little guy? He definitely got trapped in the right bag of greens!

I couldn’t believe that guy went into that pit without a shirt. I was expecting both to run right over his back, claws fully extended.

Love that he went to the effort to save them, although they didn’t need it apparently.

I love the “what just happened?” look on his face…

I couldn’t believe the guy climbed down a ladder in flip flops. I was expecting to see him lose his footing and need rescue himself.

    Never underestimate a terrified cat.

I love the ‘Pleated Jeans’ dog pix – the little boy showing training videos to his puppy!

Me, too – the posture on the pup is hilarious. There were many things to guffaw at in those doggie videos.

And I had the same thought about the guy going in to rescue the cat – very unprepared – not even a shirt to pick it up with – I was thinking we were about to witness bloodshed.

I wish I had been so excited to see a school bus when I was a kid.

My friend posted a picture of her daughter’s first day of kindergarten. She was pretty excited to finally get to take the bus with her big brother (who’s in 2nd grade).

My cousin’s wife posted pics the other day from their daughter’s kindergarten orientation, which included a practice bus ride (with mom). 🙂

Did anyone else read the article included in this edition about the lady who found a live frog in her salad from Taylor Farms? She’s not the only one who’s found a live critter in one of their salads!!! About 2 years ago I bought a package of their Asian salad at Sam’s which I had done many times before. Well, this time I was in for a surprise. I was eating the salad and thought something had fallen on my bare knee sticking out from my shorts. YUP, something sure did!! Thinking it was just a piece of lettuce I’d dropped I looked down expecting to just pick it up to throw it away BUT it was a little snail (no shell kind). And it was definitely still alive. I love animals and we have all kinds of snails here in Central FL so I didn’t scream but sat there looking at it crawling on my finger as I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I even took pictures of it so I could send them to Taylor Farms. I took the salad and snail back to SAM’S and got my money back. I don’t know what they did with the snail as I really didn’t want it for a PET!! And, Taylor Farms also sent me a $5 gift certificate so that must be what they do when someone finds live critters in their salads!! I think they need to inspect their produce a little closer before sealing it inside a bag!! I couldn’t find the pictures or I would have sent them to the group.

Eep! Sharon H. informs me that I spelled “Houston” incorrectly in the headline. Thank you, it’s fixed now!

I assumed it was just an homage to the director… 😀

It’s SpiderCat!! And I absolutely love the doggie who can’t wait to take the bus!

Also I have found dead and live bugs in food, thank goodness not often but my reaction is always the same, never ever eat there or buy their stuff again!

If i were that mongoose mother, I’d probably just name them all Rikki Tikki.

On a semi-related note and tying in the well comment, anybody else ever read Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo?

Used to torture my baby sitters by making them read that to me.

I loved that book when I was a kid. And now I will have that stuck in my head.

I always felt bad for poor Chang…

I also wondered why he didn’t just say “my brother fell into the well.” But then I guess there’d be no story.

      • LunaChickFringe August 30, 2017 / 12:44 pm

OMG I was JUST talking about that story the other day! I loved the book and had the book/record combo from Scholastic books. I would listen to the recording on my little record player.

        • allein ? August 30, 2017 / 12:51 pm

I think I had that one on cassette. Every so often I’ll think about it for some reason and the cadence of the name gets stuck in my head like a song.

I did have a little record player with ladybugs on it. I had Free to Be You and Me (my parents might still have it, actually) and Ernie singing “Rubber Ducky” on vinyl. 🙂

Sometimes I will call my sister when I know she’s not home, and leave that as a message on her answering machine.
Does it count as an earworm if there’s no music?

            • allein ? August 30, 2017 / 1:57 pm

Yes. I often get phrases stuck in my head.

Why aren’t more than one mongoose called mongeese?

    Pwned!
