That manatee really is both the blorpiest blorp and the saddest. It’s wonderful that so many people banded together to help them.

I watched a couple storm cam streams for a while on Friday and Saturday. At one point this shirtless dude walking down the sidewalk on duval street and laid down on the concrete for…a nap? To wait for the ocean to claim him? I have no idea, but he was obviously homeless and in big trouble. But after a while a good samaritan came out to get him and take him somewhere safe(r). At that point I turned the streams off. My heart couldn’t take it.

I’m sorry, but that bear video was not cute to me. For one thing, I don’t think children should ever be allowed to touch guns, not even toy guns. Not in a world where cops kill kids for pulling cellphones out of their pockets. And I would sure as hell have grabbed that gun out of Riley’s hand, and gotten all the kids the hell away from that window. I feel like calling social services on the adults.

All the other stories were lovely with much cuteness (though I question the use of “single file” to describe the walking flamingoes).

But my heart just jumped in my chest at the bear thing. I’m actually having some trouble breathing right now. I give it a big down vote. Your mileage may vary of course; it would be a boring world if we all agreed. I’m just so upset by this.

And believe it or not, I really do love kids.

Ricky’s Mom, I too couldn’t handle the toy guns, and it seemed like the parents were taking a big risk.

LOVED the other linkies, though they created more weepiness. (It’s that kind of week.)

Yeah, baby bear trashing inflatable pool toy – cute. (Am I the only one that was cheering him on to pop it?)

Kids pointing toy guns at it and screaming through the window – not so cute.

I saw a thing about the flamingos at the zoo the other day, along with a bunch of other animals that were moved indoors, and something about a sloth and other critters from some kind of police animal facility being held at a jail (in unoccupied cells) for safekeeping.

Agreed. I had the same reaction.

The dog reunited with his cancer fighting dad really got to me, the joy of both of them was very touching.

Yay! for people helping stranded manatees !!

Keep calm and flamingo on! LOL!!

I’m not crazy about guns either Ricky’s mom but at least these are very colourful and don’t look like real guns.

The face on the dog in the first picture on the Southwest story made my heart happy. I want to cuddle with him. Too bad he’s on the other side of the country.

The expression on that cat’s face is identical to mine when I just sprinted downstairs and into the back yard to take in the washing – torrential rain from a brilliant blue sky. The weather seems to be weird everywhere.

No kidding, it’s the second week of September and we’re having the best week of the whole summer in Montreal! Perfect weather 27c (80F) with sunshine every day for a week strait!

Same here in Ontario, I just came in from lunch break and exclaiming how incredible the weather has been!

I feel that way when I sprint to the phone and it’s a robocall.

Had same reaction to the kid with the gun – there was something about him that made me think – keep an eye on that one. And while I have no idea how I’d react with a mama bear and baby bear in my yard, it was a teachable moment to tell the kids to sit quietly and observe rather than go off the rails.

I was especially happy to learn that the manatees came through safely – I had seen the video during the storm but no follow up to learn if they’d succeeded. THEY DID! YIPPEEEEE!

I think that cat is my spirit animal.

I apologize. I didn’t watch the whole bear/flamingo video. I do not advocate kids playing with toy guns. And indeed, a teachable moment by human parents was missed big time.

So since this posted I am going to use this as an example of better parenting on the part of the bear mom for her cub. Well done momma bear: protective, calm and the little one got to play.

My apologies to Faye and my regrets to anyone bothered by the bear video. Indeed, Faye sent a shorter clip, but I tracked down the YouTube version on my own. I thought the family was annoying but (ahem) bearable, but I can appreciate how other aspects of the video were troublesome to many readers.

        Thanks Mike.

Thanks, Mike. They can’t all be winners. Your track record stands at Excellent.

And thank you, too, Faye. Not that either of you did anything wrong.

What happened to the swimming cat? Obviously (s)he wasn’t well cared for and may have been a feral. Someone posted a photo of a wet orange cat on top of a half-submerged car, but that wasn’t a good situation either, if it was even the same cat. Every time someone posts this photo, I’m going to worry about the cat….

I’ve always thought manatees are more dependent on strangers’ help than other animals. They’re just doing their thing, swimming around and being adorably blorpy and suddenly they’re stranded or stuck and unable to even flail for help. Good thing there are so many kind-hearted people.

I love this story – what a great way to use social media. Yay hoomins!

Despite some of the kids being pretty awful, I was impressed that there were no cries of ‘My Floatee!’
