I think the word “Brio” on the side is rather descriptive of our inimitable driver turned passenger.
Hana seems to be getting more and more Rubenesque every time we see her! It’s as if she’s absorbing some of the Circle’s pleasing plumpness.
Pans and dolly shots are her weaknesses as a cinematographer. This really needed a moving camera. On the other hand, when he was moving toward the camera, it did stay in focus on him, so that’s an accomplishment.
I love the way she puts the clips together. She is a genius of the hilarious deadpan jump-cut. Maru pushes cart right. Pause. Maru pushes cart left.
And as always, Hana provides the silent commentary of the straight-man, walking across the lens, nothing to see here, move along.
I guess that’s the other way to look at it. In that view, I suppose when he rams the wagon into the camera, that’s an ironic fourth wall break.
