Healed With a Kiss

(Wow, I’m having a miserable day. I’m the mayor of Miserableness City, population: me. I could open the Miserableness Store and have a BOGO sale on miserableness. I feel like a turducken made from sadness stuffed into anger then packed into grumpiness and burnt to a crisp and covered in miserableness sauce. Nothing could make me less miserable. Absolutely noth…)

(This is the hovertext of miserableness.)

SMOOCH!

I just LOL’d at work! (Thank God I work from home. Side-eye from one’s cat is much less embarrassing than from one’s supervisor.)

Yup! Puppy smoochies does it for everyone. Or dog can just lick off the miserableness sauce!

The reference to Young Frankenstein is the sauce of hilarity on the funny. LOL! ?

Wow. I knew I was having a rough week, but when I read the first few sentences and they perfectly described how I’m feeling, it was sort of…comforting?

Cutetropolis peeps, I work at a place that was once the site of a mass shooting, and every time there’s another one it sends me into a bit of a tailspin. I’m so grateful for this community of funny, kind folks.

If it helps, you are not alone there.

I’ve been limiting my news consumption the past couple weeks (even before Las Vegas), and my blog reading (a blog on which I’ve read nearly every post for years) for even longer. I just can’t, lately. I really wish I had a small furry thing (puppy, kitten, aye-aye…I’m not too picky at this point) to cuddle with right now.

Thanks, Allein. It definitely helps to know I’m not alone.

Me too guys, I used to give a bit of side-eye to people who didn’t keep up with current events but here I am one of ‘those people’ now. I don’t want to start down the slippery slope of depression as few times recently I have found I am on the top of that slope– too close for me.

          • allein ? October 5, 2017 / 4:04 pm

I still keep up, just in smaller doses.

I get my news from charities and progressive organizations that I support, because they give me an opportunity to DO something about bad news, even if it’s just to sign a petition or send an email. Otherwise I give news a wide berth, on doctor’s advice—no newspapers, no magazines, no radio, and absolutely no television news.

PTSD and other mood disorders are no joke. This site is not just adorable; Mike’s post and everyone’s comments help keep me going.

Catwhisperer, you have every ounce of my sympathy.

I listen to NPR’s Up First podcast, which is about 15 minutes on weekday mornings (though often I don’t listen until a day or two later) and gives a short overview of the news from the day before, and their Politics podcast which is twice a week unless something big happens and they do an extra episode. My clock radio also comes on shortly before the morning show does their news segment, which isn’t very long (and is how I first heard about LV; not a great thing to wake up to). And I usually don’t get home much before 7 so I miss the evening news most nights, anyway. So most of my news comes in small bites, which I can usually choose to listen to later. I listen to a bunch of other podcasts but most of them don’t focus on current events at all.

                • fkaWaldenPond October 5, 2017 / 11:07 pm

I still do read the news Allein; but like you in small doses.

I also get an email newsletter called WTF Just Happened Today? which collects news about the goings on in the Trump administration. I can read just a short summary or click to the source articles if I want more details. Mostly I don’t click.

                    • Faye October 6, 2017 / 9:03 am

                      I get WTFJustHappened as well.

                      Sometimes I click. Or not.

                    • allein ? October 6, 2017 / 9:16 am

When I was on vacation last week I didn’t even read any of them until Friday or Saturday.

              • Catwhisperer October 6, 2017 / 12:32 pm

Thanks, RM. Cutetropolis is my happy place, too. 🙂

    • Faye October 5, 2017 / 12:01 pm

Catwhisperer I’m sorry that Las Vegas brought up your past experience. Very difficult to convince your brain and body it is not happening to you again. I know that feeling.

I had to turn off the news for the first time in my life because I couldn’t watch the people in Puerto Rico anymore. The combination of heartbreaking and embarrassing was too much.

This week I am listening to CNN more than watching. One of the first news stories that I remember was the Texas Tower in 1966. That never left my mind.

      • Murray C October 5, 2017 / 12:32 pm

I remember that so well. It seemed beyond imagining that anyone could do something like that. And each time it happens again, the same feeling. The shooter in Texas was found to have a brain tumor or some brain disorder. This guy Paddock? They’re hoping his self-delivered bullet didn’t destroy his brain to the point that they can’t find out if that might have been his problem.

Cat whisperer, how awful for you to have been that close to such a horrific incident. It’s amazing how it affects us all, rippling out from the center, those in that center feeling it the worst.

Faye, I don’t watch the news, I read it from my iPad – I have a news app from many sources and somehow reading keeps it at a level I can deal with.

        • Catwhisperer October 5, 2017 / 3:45 pm

Thanks, Faye and Murray. I’m also trying to take a break from the news.

          • Faye October 5, 2017 / 5:53 pm

Good. Know and honor your limits.

    • debg October 5, 2017 / 12:30 pm

Catwhisperer, I can’t even imagine what that must be like. So sorry. And hugs–plenty of extra hugs.

      • Catwhisperer October 5, 2017 / 3:49 pm

        Thanks, Deb.

That turkducken recipe, that’s a keeper.

    • Murray C October 5, 2017 / 11:33 am

That’s the one that got me, too. And the wide-eyed look on being bussed! Quel surprise!

Love the impossible roundness of kitty’s head, the very definition of Maru.

This is the best thing that happened today, thank you!
