A Leap of Fail

Over the craggy peaks and across the frozen tundra, the snow leopard hunts its next meal. In such remote locations food is scarce, and the leopard must rely upon its keen eyesight and talent for camouflage. Patience pays off, and a tiny field mouse scampers into the open. Digging its claws into the snow for traction, the snow leopard calculates the precise trajectory needed for the kill. And in one mighty leap

LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROY

… the snow leopard learns you don’t want to rush those calculations.

You’ll get there, kid. Just keep pouncing on mom and some day you’ll be as ferocious as you think you are. Why, you might even catch my bunny slippers!

Poor snow kitty, even 4 perfect-looking marks of the wild did not save him from landing on his back.
That belly fur looks really soft.

I assume I’m not the only one who read this in the voice of David Attenborough.

I am sure I’m not the only one who personally know the Leroy mention.

(God I’m feeling old all of a sudden remembering that)

Back 11 years ago, World of Warcraft was in its early stages, and in one encounter (raid), you needed to walk thru a room without touching dragon eggs.

If you watch this, and stop and think it’s takes a lot of planning to do this .. Well ..
Leroy is away from his keyboard at the time .. comes back, and the rest .. well .. you’ll see .. LOL

(WARNING: Their is some foul language in it)

I did not understand any aspect of this. Well no, I believe there were human male voices speaking, or was that a simulation of some kind?

          • Not That Mike The Other Mike November 7, 2017 / 3:46 pm

Those were real people on a conference phone call, discussing the situation that lay ahead and how dangerous it would be for their characters. “Leroy,” who was away from the phone and missed out on the elaborate strategy laid out by the others, rejoined the call and promptly charged into the dangerous room, forcing his mates to rush in after him. And it was a disaster.

              Thank you. These kids today…

Dubravkamcvmd – you and I must be in the same boat – the “Old Fogie” boat, if I’m not mistaken. I have not an inkling what they’re talking about.?

                • Duckie ? November 7, 2017 / 9:32 pm

Is there room for an old fogie duck?

                  • Murray C November 7, 2017 / 9:38 pm

                    Always, Duckie, always.?

Though I’m pretty sure the famous video was staged (no raiders I’ve known have ever tucked themselves into so neat of a circle, and no competent raiders would follow a premature puller when they could just let him die and rez him after) I think it’s fair to say that it was based on real behavior by a real person 😉

Apparently Leeroy Jenkins is a World of Warcraft character who is known for screaming his name before he ignorantly jumps into battle.

      • kodalai November 7, 2017 / 10:02 am

I feel compelled to add that it’s not JUST that he rushed recklessly into battle; he dragged 10 of his friends into a fight before they were ready and got everybody killed, so “Leeroy Jenkins” has an added element of being THE WORST team player 😉

He wasn’t nearly as cute as this guy!

      Totally unrelated wow funny moment:
Seeing this guy in Wotlk cracked me up: picture after the link

Poor Ka’luak dockmaster is called Kanosak (= the horny ones in Hungarian), too bad they never implemented female Ka’luaks

You really have to watch the video. Snow leopard baby-parent wrasslin! Baby is very sure-footed, actually. I think the pic of baby on back is not actually directly sequential to giant leap—prob just some back-scratching and rolling around.

Snow leopards have a very special place in my heart. So proud that the Bronx Zoo is doing so much to protect and restore the species.

    • allein ? November 7, 2017 / 9:24 am

He just lands on the ground on his feet. Still, hardly the ferocious pounce he seems to intend.

Best part of the video is baby attacking mom’s tail and her taking several seconds to even react.

    • debg November 7, 2017 / 10:35 am

Yes, that video has rendered me helpless for the day. Unbelievably adorable.

Not very votimated here but I’m going after work.

I realized last night that the Lt. Governor candidate for the Libertarian party in NJ is the wife of a guy I used to work with.

  7. kodalai November 7, 2017 / 10:05 am

Check out 2:05 on that click-through video, you can see clouds of fur fly!

  8. Dana November 7, 2017 / 10:33 am

Love the video. What a ferocious ball of fur!!

    We’re gonna need a bigger laser pointer…

    • Murray C November 7, 2017 / 11:50 am

? I’d love to fondle those big pawsies except they’re hiding great big clawsies.

I loved the straight up leap Mom did as the baby charges her! They are gorgeous cats and their tails are so long! My mother used to have an expression she would use if you got too full of yourself – “My, my, what a long tail our cat has.”

      • Wuyizidi November 7, 2017 / 2:26 pm

        “those big pawsies”

Not for nothing are they called “murder mittens” by the internet.

        • debg November 7, 2017 / 2:34 pm

Wuyizidi, I’m currently writing a call for mitten designs, so now I want to call them “murder mittens.” Don’t think the boss will like that!

          • Wuyizidi November 8, 2017 / 1:15 am

Of course not, the name has been trademarked already by a band – a fact I discovered 2 minutes ago while doing google image search on “murder mittens” 🙂

“An entire family of four was hospitalized and their house leveled this afternoon when their house-leopard got a case of the zoomies.”

Here we see why big-cat mamas would rather not have only one cub. If they have at least two, there’s somebody else for the little buggers to torment besides mama all the bloody time.

Of course it doesn’t always work. I saw a mama tiger with two cubs when one of them jumped on her head just like this little numbnuts. She looked so tired.

    • Kar November 7, 2017 / 6:56 pm

      like this?

Without PRECISE calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that’d end your trip real quick, wouldn’t it?

Because I’m an ol’ school nerd and don’t know what you young whippesnappers are talking about with your Whirly Wie Webbing and all that moogaly googaly.
