Cute, but I don’t think I’d want to wake up to that laugh in the middle of the night….

I thought the first “OK” was Alexa but I watched again and realized it was the bird. 😀

This is why I haven’t turned on Alexa Meow. I don’t know what it does and I’m afraid to find out.

      I had to google that…

      Meow to Alexa

A virtual cat lives within echo. You can chat with Alexa in cat’s language. Play this with your cat.

You (or your cat) can have a back and forth conversation with Alexa by saying single/multiple meow/mew.

Some of the comments on the Amazon page are funny.

This cat doesn’t seem overly impressed…

The hoomins are going to come home to some interesting package deliveries.

That parrot is too smart for its hoomins. It’s going to control the whole house pretty soon — unlocking the door for package deliveries and burglars, inviting in neighborhood cats to harass, and who knows what else! I think, if I had a parrot and Alexa, they definitely wouldn’t stay in the same room….

And from what I understand, Allein, if you cover up the bird’s cage at night (after you put the bird in the cage, obviously, which for this bird would be extra-large), the bird goes to sleep, or at least stops talking. Never having had a bird (except for a parakeet [budgie] that was eaten by the cat when I was much younger, oops!), I couldn’t attest to that, but that’s what I’ve been told by a couple of people who do. If there are any Cutropolitans who have parrots, perhaps they could set the record straight?

No, I have read that, too, that covering the cage tells them it’s bedtime. I’ve never had a bird, though, so I don’t know if it works on all of them.

I read a funny bit in Readers’ Digest about a parrot that squawked so obnoxiously that the owner would cover it’s cage. All would be well for a little while and then, from out of the cage, came a wee voice that said “help me!”

I had a cockatiel for 25 yrs. Covering him would settle him down, although he let it be known in the mornings that he needed uncovered. He never talked much, basically said “Hello” and “Pretty Bird” and whistled the Woody Woodpecker laugh. He started learning, then got old enough to notice his cage buddy was a female, and got sidetracked by lust.

      Isn’t that always the way?

Allein, thanks for looking up Alexa Meow! That video is pretty cute.

I hope they have some kind of safeguard against the bird using Alexa to order directly from Amazon or they might find themselves neck deep in birdseeds LOL!!

Covering Merlin (my parrot) calms him down but if he knows the house is still awake on the other side of the cage cover, he continues to talk. But if you turn off the lights and the house is quiet, he settles right down for sleep. That’s a pretty instinctual reaction for most birds: to be quiet in the dark so that night-time predators can’t find them in the trees.

We are an Apple household and I talk to Siri all the time but Merlin hasn’t yet picked up on it for his own use. At 15 years of age, Merlin’s acquisition of new words has slowed down a lot and he’s less likely to adopt new technologies. 15 years ago, we were still talking on an old-fashioned land line most often so he does a perfect land line ring and has cute one-side telephone calls with himself.

Birdcage, that’s such a sweet story!

There are safeguards you can put on Echo devices to control what people in the household order. I live alone so it’s not a problem for me, but I can imagine little kids trying to order ponies from Amazon.

The conversation he had after he turned the lights on was a bit creepy though.
