Why Did the Gorillas Cross the Road?

One might just as well ask “why did the road cross these gorillas?” but one thing is for certain: When a massive silverback stands in the middle of the road to let his family pass, you stop what you’re doing and let them. And take lots of pictures.

Did anyone else watch on December 6 National Geographic’s new 3-part miniseries “Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist” which explores her life, legacy, and untimely death? I’ve followed her ever since she began her gorilla saving efforts from the beginning. They have been one animal I find so captivating as we are so much like them. I just hope all the efforts in working so hard to keep them from becoming extinct continue. Their family dynamics are so special. I cried right along with Dian when she found Digit’s body and what happened to him. If you haven’t watched the videos from those beginning days, find them and see what she was all about and how she became ‘one’ with each group and interacted with them. Authorities never did find out for sure who murdered her but have their suspicions but I don’t believe them. They just wanted to pin it on someone but I don’t think they got the right person(s). She kept poachers from killing her beloved gorillas and they wanted her out of the way so they could continue their murderous acts.

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road, roll around in the mud, and go back the other way?

    A: Because he was a dirty double-crosser!

(I can’t take credit for that one – saw it in a magazine).

THAT is a real dad for you. The humans might have stopped the trucks, but Dad stayed there till his family was safe. Awesome – and I wish there were more human dads like him.

I love how the little ones emulate him too – “look, when I grow up I’m going to be like you!”
