Such wonderful links today! And had a huge chuckle at the penguin video. Never knew penguins came in solid black.
They don’t as adults, unless they have a melanism, a *very* rare pigment mutation. Darth Vader appears to be a “yoot”—note the downiness of the plumage.
Baby heffalumps make my heart hurt.
Of course I meant “melanism,” not “a melanism.”
Know what you mean, R’s Mom – they seem so extremely vulnerable, especially in these days of poaching for hide and tusk. The little one the other day – too small to nurse! That had never occurred to me! And I remember seeing video of a calf born with its front knees bent and struggling along to keep up – FINALLY, after a few days, its knees straightened out and it was OK. But to see that brave little creature doing its best and mom encouraging him – heart wrenching.
Babies, heroes and Darth Pinguin, who could ask for anything more!
Baby heffalump looks like they ran out of the right color trunks so they had to use one that didn’t quite match.
Can the black penguin even fit down the stairs??????
I think the black one is a chick that has not yet molted and acquired its adult feathers. So I assume that all that bulk is just feather floof.
Ok, that Sam Kalidi (and his twitter) is darn funny. 😀 Thank you for that!
Hurray for Shelby and Lizzie! I was watching The Critter Room’s Youtube channel religiously in those days, and Lizzie’s birth amazed everybody!!! She was an adorably obnoxious baby.
The penguins had me in tears of laughter.
