Links: Wombat Thursday

I fixed a glitch that was preventing me from adding new links, so here are the links I wanted to have ready for yesterday morning. Enjoy!

And finally: All I Ever Find is Loose Change

Been training them not to play ON the couches… I think it’s working?

The… glider… *FWOOMP* I’m just ded now. I’m typing from the grave and I’m not even upset about it because that level of teh QTE is worth it! Check out the link. You’ll be even more ded after you see the rest of the pics.

I bet I’m not the only one who put her hand on the photo of the glider to see if it really was actual size ?

I gotta check under the couch cushions when I get home…

Worth the wait. I hope George will be alright in the wild – he seems very comfortable with humans. The hippo couple is adorable, but I feel bad for the sheep.

    • Gigi The cat lady February 8, 2018 / 9:25 am

Don’t feel bad, the sheep was a ram and now he has a lot of lady friends, I don’t think he misses his hippo friend at all. LOL!!

      • dubravkamcvmd February 8, 2018 / 9:38 am

        Thanks. I feel better.

    • Ricky's Mom February 8, 2018 / 11:45 am

Yes, I feel worried about George, too.. I can’t think they’d return him to the wild if they didn’t think he could survive. But I’m a worrier by nature.

      • Deb February 8, 2018 / 10:54 pm

I’m worried too. But then I don’t let my cats outside for fear of danger.

The glider gives new meaning to the term pocket pet. Since, they’re having a hard time counting the exact number, I wonder if they’d notice if I spent a little time in the enclosure and then left. Just ignore the fact that my pockets are moving.

And that pitty is absolutely correct – s/he is not ON the couch but IN the couch. That face –
such a sweetie!! Loving the other links too – yea for George going back to the wild and hoping the hippos grow up strong and can also be released.

    • Duckie ? February 8, 2018 / 12:09 pm

AJ, if I accompany you into the enclosure, I know I would have a terrible time keeping my balance, and will probably fall. As you’re ‘rescuing’ me, might you be willing to ‘rescue’ a couple of those adorables into my bag?

      • AJ February 8, 2018 / 12:18 pm

But of course! Make sure you bring a large bag, lol.

Mike, I’ve noticed the Amazon link no longer appears on the site. Is that just me or something on the site?

    • Jendeyan February 8, 2018 / 10:12 am

I see it so I think it’s just you.

      Edit
Oops. That’s just the tip jar. Yeah, I don’t see the link either. Just the tip jar.

      • Ricky's Mom February 8, 2018 / 11:42 am

Same here. I like using the Amazon Smile link when I can’t shop local; I know it only sends a fraction of a penny to NTMTOM and my charity, Metropolitan Maltese Rescue (where I adopted Ricky from), but I figure every little bit helps.

        Mike, is this another glitch?

        • Murray C February 8, 2018 / 11:46 am

I tried to include NTM when I use Amazon Smile but couldn’t figure out how to do it. I have Best Friends as a charity – I think my husband set that up – but I didn’t manage to include NTM!

Amazon Smile lets you donate to registered charities when you shop. Since I run a business, I’m not one of the charities you can select — BUT I still get an affiliate commission from any sales made with an Amazon Smile link.

            • dubravkamcvmd February 8, 2018 / 12:52 pm

So even though I can’t go to Amazon Smile from this page you still get something if I use Amazon Smile on the Amazon site?

              • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 8, 2018 / 2:08 pm

I just restored the Amazon Smile link to the sidebar. (Sorry for the temporary disappearance, but I was in the process of making some changes.)

To benefit me and the charity, you should start your shopping session by clicking the sidebar link to smile.amazon.com.

            • dubravkamcvmd February 8, 2018 / 2:06 pm

The link to Amazon is back!

              • Not That Mike The Other Mike February 8, 2018 / 2:09 pm

Yep. I was just making some changes to it and got interrupted, so that’s why it was gone briefly.

I once witnessed ‘live’ the actual moment someone’s dog realized they were going to the vet. It’s one of my favorite random memories (which I think I’ve shared here before, but bear with me). I was walking down the sidewalk in my old Philly neighborhood and noticed a young woman just in front of me walking a cocker spaniel on a leash. I noticed that the dog just looked SO happy–he was prancing along, looking up adoringly at his human. It was about 5 p.m., and I was thinking, “Awwww, she probably just got home from work and he’s so happy to see her and he’s doing his little happy reunion dance” when BOOM! His butt hit the ground so abruptly that she almost pulled the collar right over his head because she couldn’t stop in time. And I saw where we were: right outside the vet’s office. She tried sweet-talking him into going in–“Come on, baby, it’s OK!” but he was NOT. HAVING. IT. He just sat there looking up at her with those big sad, pleading eyes that I believe cocker spaniels do better than any other breed. (Yes, I stopped to watch. So did a couple other people. I couldn’t resist.) Finally she picked him up and carried him in.

It was, coincidentally, the same vet I took my cats to. Another time I was there when a couple brought in their BIG Rottweiler. When it was time to go back to the examining room, he refused to budge. The woman got in front and pulled on the leash, and the man bent over and pushed from behind, and the dog sat bolt upright as they literally slid him down the hall. In my imagination you could see the claw marks in the floor the whole way . . . .

Thanks for the amusing stories. I very much enjoyed reading them.

    • Gigi The cat lady February 8, 2018 / 11:04 am

      ????

  8. Murray C February 8, 2018 / 10:31 am

Oh, George, how we’ll miss you – he is so cute. I do she the concern about how he’ll do in the wild since he’s so used to people – I’m surprised they weren’t weaning him away from human contact. And the critters going to the vet – priceless. The guilt trips they’re laying on their humans! HAH!

Also, fkaWaldenpond, thinking of you and hope you’re OK.

    • fkaWaldenPond February 8, 2018 / 11:26 am

Hi, good morning Murray C, thank you for asking. I am doing ok, I feel emotionally exhausted but on the ok side of things. Thanks again for asking. 🙂

      • Murray C February 8, 2018 / 11:44 am

? Glad to hear from you and that you’re OK.

  9. Deb February 8, 2018 / 10:58 pm

I am so in love with those hippos. Have seen and held sugar gliders before, but not feather gliders—squee!!!

And maybe while I work at home on Fridays, I can track one cat’s pawedness at a time. Gives a new twist to “southpaw”!

    • allein ? February 8, 2018 / 11:10 pm

I sent that link to my parents and said “I wonder if Stars is a lefty” because she’s a scaredy-cat and the article said lefties have more of a fear response. One of them responded, “I’ll ask her.” 😛
