Happy Saturday everyone!! And hello gorgeous to you kitty, what a stunner. I’ll take any beauty tips she may have.

Going to be a busy weekend as we’re moving tomorrow!! Have to finish packing today and start taking over the little stuff we don’t want the movers to move like our clothes, the food, the computers, etc. And have to do it with my sore hand and now my back is bothering me. That’s why we call in the professionals … plus it stops me and hubby from having a huge fight and trying to find a few friends willing to schlep all our stuff from apt to truck, then truck to new place. Well off to pack some more stuff now.

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 11:19 am

I think you’re wise to hire movers. Part of being an adult means you can pay other people to do the things you don’t want to do!

      Good luck with the move.

    • Faye March 10, 2018 / 2:36 pm

Nothing as satisfying as the day after you move. Best of luck AJ.

Big adventure today. Going to my first book group meeting. 40 minute drive to a soup and sandwich restaurant. Why is the first time you go to something so difficult? Small goal: drive there, park, walk in, say hello, ask how the meeting works… I did read the book… We shall see… Will update.

    • Dubravkamcvmd March 10, 2018 / 8:43 am

I’m sure it will be fine. Remember, the group wants it to work out too.

      • Faye March 10, 2018 / 9:35 am

        Thank you!

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 11:20 am

      Have fun with that!

      • Faye March 10, 2018 / 2:41 pm

I’m home and I did have fun! Phew, I was tense but I knew that if I didn’t chicken out that once I parked the car I could go in. And I did.

Nice ladies from 30 to 70. Ten all together. I participated and will go back next month. Yay!

        • AJ March 10, 2018 / 3:06 pm

Yay!! Glad to hear it worked out. I know how hard it is sometimes to put one self in social settings, no matter how enjoyable it can be – ie book clubs, brunch meet ups, etc. I just tell myself to breathe and remember that probably everyone else is nervous too.

          • Faye March 11, 2018 / 10:25 am

I had a positive mantra going during the 30 minute drive… including permission to say hello, tell them I can’t stay but will see them next month.

            • Murray C March 11, 2018 / 3:08 pm

That’s terrific, Faye. I find that with most enterprises, I am reluctant to go, have to talk myself into it, then am so happy I followed through. Exercise is one of them, at least until it’s part of a pattern of behavior. Meeting new people is tricky sometimes, tho’ I’m very social but also very much enjoy being alone. Joining my Craft Guild was torture for me (the first meeting) but once among the people I was fine. I guess it’s the getting there, not the being there that’s hardest!

        • Amyliz March 10, 2018 / 5:00 pm

Glad you had a good time, Faye! I need to get myself out there and socialize a little more. Aside from work, I spend most of my time alone. I’ll never be a social butterfly but a little more variety would do me good!

          • Faye March 11, 2018 / 10:23 am

Same here. I have one more plan come spring.

  3. Alice Shortcake March 10, 2018 / 9:29 am

Gentle readers, if you’ve had a difficult week at work spare a thought for Mr Edward Higginson Jolly, correspondent of the theatrical paper “The Era”, who in May 1874 expressed the opinion that Miss Carrie Nelson, burlesque actress, could neither act nor sing. He thereby incurred the wrath of Miss Nelson’s husband, who sat down next to him during a performance, hit him three times in the face and called him “a d—–m s—–t, a b—–d thief, a b—–y liar”, and…

    *wheels in fainting couch*

    “…a b—–r.”

Mr Jolly’s blood-soaked handkerchief was exhibited in evidence and his assailant was fined 40 shillings and costs.

We now return you to your scheduled non-violent weekend cuteness.

    • Amyliz March 10, 2018 / 9:42 am

Well, my week at work wasn’t quite as dramatic as Mr. Higginson’s but…I have a rather severly autistic child in my class and he bit me on the wrist hard enough to leave a pretty good bruise, plus I have two other children with challenging behaviors, so yeah, I am more than ready for the weekend! This pretty kitty is great way to get it started!

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 11:20 am

Is it wrong that I had to spend time figuring out the expletives? So much easier now that we can just print it out unedited!

      • dubravkamcvmd March 10, 2018 / 11:54 am

I don’t get the last two!

        • Maia March 10, 2018 / 12:18 pm

My guess is the last one rhymes with “hugger”. I can’t decide if the second one rhymes with “hit” or “hot”.

          • debg March 10, 2018 / 12:36 pm

Bloody. For some reason, the Brits have always considered it a swear.

            • dubravkamcvmd March 10, 2018 / 12:54 pm

              Thanks

            • Murray C March 10, 2018 / 3:07 pm

I have a feeling it’s considered sacrilegious, referring to the blood of Christ. I know that “Gol Blimey” is “God blind me”. Alice, I’m sure you could clarify all this for us!?

          • dubravkamcvmd March 10, 2018 / 12:53 pm

            Thanks

            • Alice Shortcake March 10, 2018 / 2:58 pm

Never let it be said that this site isn’t educational…

    • AJ March 10, 2018 / 3:10 pm

OH.MY. Such language, such vulgarity. I think I feel the vapors coming on *fanning myself*. I’m glad the caddish husband was fined for such a display, especially in public.

  4. CAZ March 10, 2018 / 10:29 am

Beautiful kitty! Will she show me how to apply eyeliner, like hers, as i am just terrible with make up!

I’m making my butternut squash sauce and freezing it, we had a bumper crop last season, so trying to use it all up by making sauces and ravioli fillings!

Oh also waiting for the snow to melt.

  5. Gigi The cat lady March 10, 2018 / 10:52 am

    Happy weekend everybody!

About a month ago, the skin on 2 of my husband knuckles cracked because the cold makes his skin so dry. I’ve been telling him to put more than mercurochrome on it but of course he didn’t listen, he’s been using that crap since he was a kid.

Now it’s infected and I’m trying my very best not to say “I told you so!”

He did have the sense to stop at the pharmacy yesterday and they gave him the strongest antibiotic you can get without a prescription. If that doesn’t work he’ll have to miss work to see a doctor.

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 11:21 am

Gigi, I too love to say “I told you so,” and I’ve learned over the years that an internal smug smile makes me happy without annoying others. I get to do that internal smile a lot.

      • Faye March 10, 2018 / 2:44 pm

Yes. I do the smug inner smile too.

  6. Murray C March 10, 2018 / 11:02 am

Lovely kitty – great powder puff!

Good luck with the move, AJ, good on you, Faye – being even just a little adventurous is a great start. I went somewhere I’d never been before last night to see a couple of friends perform and thank goodness for Apple Maps and the nice lady who guides your way. I felt rather chuffed with myself for having ventured out on a dark cold night all by my ownsome to an unknown destination! Small victories as we get older.

Sad about Mr. Jolly – lesson to be learned about telling the truth – expect blow-back.

Last week I missed just about all of the Open Thread because we had no power for two days and it feels like I’ve spent half the week playing catch-up. I hope everyone survived reasonably well.

I was wondering – have we heard from Jan and Lily of late? I don’t remember seeing any posts from her for what seems quite a while. JAN – if you’re out there let us know how you’re doing?

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 11:22 am

One of the big northeastern storms? So sorry, and I hope your house and neighborhood survived without much damage.

      • Murray C March 10, 2018 / 3:17 pm

Thanks, DEBG, and glad you’re feeling better. We didn’t have any great damage here and we’re lucky because our stove is gas and easily lit. My husband and I spent the evenings playing music together which was rather nice, especially since we only had candlelight. We did have two huge trees in nearby neighborhood – actually one was an enormous limb the size of a respectable tree – go down and missing houses by a whisker. This most recent storm was easy peasy by comparison, just heavy snow and, of course, shoveling. But my Fitbit gives me exercise credits for that (And vacuuming!) so it’s worth it!

Gosh, all of you with medical issues – that’s the most worrisome to me! I wish the best possible outcomes for all of you – and Hubbies and Moms, too.

  7. debg March 10, 2018 / 11:18 am

Repeated from yesterday. Prepare to be jealous.

Went to Petsmart for cat stuff and right behind me in the checkout line, there was a lady, her son, and a corgi puppy. They were getting the puppy Brody a collar, then taking it to her mother, who was very excited about her new baby. Brody was so young, his ears didn’t stand up straight yet. I got to pet him and he licked my hands. Then, as I was leaving, the lady INVITED ME TO HOLD HIM, because he was so soft and cuddly. That got me some inadvertent French kisses–Brody luvs him some people. It was the highlight of my whole week.

I am now feeling healthy and able to celebrate all the good things in my life.

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 11:23 am

PS Miss Pretty Kitty does her job very well!

    • birdlady26 March 10, 2018 / 11:40 am

Where’s that line? I could really use some of those corgi kisses too.

Power outages here in the northeast have been a pain to deal with. No power means no heat, no water since I’m on a well, no flushing since my septic system has a pump to pump up to the leaching field. At least I have a propane gas cooktop. Singed my fingers a couple of times lighting the burners, since I could only find the short kitchen matches.

Power was only out for most of the day with this last storm. Going to bed, I was trying to figure out how many layers of clothes to wear under the covers and how many more quilts to get out to put on the bed.

At least I got my power back fairly quickly. Some folks won’t have power back until Sunday at the earliest.

Did get some nice kitty snuggles from my tortie little Dancer girl. She was a nice lap warmer, and she usually doesn’t like lap. Shared warmth was her motive I’m sure!

Oh god, that was an adventure! One I can do without again anytime soon. So please, this next storm aiming at Massachusetts for Tuesday, please stay far offshore. Thank you. That is all.

p.s. Cutetropolis withdrawal symptoms were very tough to deal with.

    • Murray C March 10, 2018 / 3:20 pm

Oh, I could use some Corgi Kisses! How cute and lucky you!

Hi all. I need to do chores this weekend. Right now I’m watching Grey’s Anatomy from Thursday.

My mom had surgery yesterday. All went well and my dad said she was complaining so I take that as a good sign. Haven’t seen her because she said she didn’t want us to visit yet. Maybe today or tomorrow. She should be home by Wednesday.

  9. Duckie ? March 10, 2018 / 12:08 pm

    Happy Caturday, everyone!
I think Miss Kitty here has some Maine Coon in her. She has that regal head and attitude of loftiness that Maine Coons have. But then all cats have that, so I guess all cats are Maine Coons. Funny that the ads on my current page are all beauty products.

    This has been a not-the-best-week-of-my-life.
Hubby’s giving notice went okay. His supervisor and HIS supervisor got together to see if they could come up with a way to keep him. They were unable to meet new job’s offer, so his giving notice still stands. They are not happy. So hubby offers to work on weekends till his replacement is found! Imagine how annoyed I am.
Went to see a specialist about some long time medical problems. He informed me that the problem that left me barren years ago has reared its ugly head again. I thought I was too old for this, but nopitty nopitty nope. So I’m on a whole new prescription regime, and if they don’t work, I face surgery. He wouldn’t even tell me what this surgery would involve, just that I’d have to go to Vancouver BC. So now I’m scared.

On a more positive note, my friend who owns Cricket the lovebird had a friend give her several boxes of fabric, with more to come. She invited me over to “help” her sort the fabric, and I ended up with a large bag to stash away somewhere. Lots of fleece and flannel.
New medical problem is why my weight is causing me grief. I’ve been told to ignore the weight gain for now. So that’s one less thing to fret over.
I have penned a children’s story inspired by that opossum and duck picture earlier this week. Is anyone interested in doing pictures for it? We could publish it on Kindle/Kobo, and split the earnings three ways with Mike, to support this site.

Hundreds of little things to do today before I turn the clocks ahead and lose an hour’s sleep. So I must off and do stuff. Have a happy week, everyone, or as happy as you can.

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 12:38 pm

Hugs, Duckie. Sorry about the medical news.

    • dubravkamcvmd March 10, 2018 / 12:58 pm

Sorry about your medical problems but the upside is you don’t have to feel bad about yourself because you’re heavier than you think you should be.

      • Duckie ? March 10, 2018 / 1:55 pm

        ?

    • Faye March 10, 2018 / 2:52 pm

Hey there Duckie. Hope prescriptions stave off surgery. Treat yourself to good eating in the meantime if you feel nervous.

    • AJ March 10, 2018 / 3:20 pm

I’m sorry Duckie that you’re going through more medical problems. They are definitely not fun. And I’m in the same boat as you when it comes to weight, some of the meds they have me on have made me gain weight. Right now I’m at the heaviest I’ve ever been and so not happy about that but I’m trying very hard to eat right and not beat myself up about it. I figure it will sort itself out soon enough. Good luck and hopefully no surgery.

  10. Maia March 10, 2018 / 12:29 pm

Kitty has lovely eyeliner; I would never have thought to use white!

My best wishes to people moving, recovering, enduring power outages and trying new adventures. And writing stories!

My job search continues; meanwhile I was a substitute math teacher all week, which was a challenge since I am a biologist by experience.
So today is going to be a restful day in the Saturday sunshine (astonishing!) pruning roses.

I read some funny stories about wildlife fighting off alien invaders that made me smile; I don’t know if sharing is appropriate (warning: some of the language is not), but here is the URL.

I didn’t make this or anything, but I thought it was funny so here ya go.

The opening line is “They were expecting military resistance; they weren’t counting on bears.” It is a quick read and a nice blend of science-fiction and animals being not-so-cute, but they save the Earth. if you like that sort of thing. No gore.

Keep on Keeping on, everybody! Smiles, Maia

  11. Patty March 10, 2018 / 1:07 pm

That is a very pretty cat. She looks a lot like my youngest daughter’s cat.

It was warm here yesterday, 70 degrees, it was nice to go out in the yard and soak up some sunshine. The weekend is supposed to be cooler.

My kids have discovered a phone app, Marco Polo, which I really love. It’s a video app, they created a family group, so all day long I get short videos of their lives. Most of them live nearby, but I’ve seen more of my Florida grandkids in the last 2 weeks than I had in all of their lives. Mae is 15 and has her own phone now. Alex is 13 and autistic, but his dad takes videos, and Alex loves to show off his Lego creations. I wish this app had been around a long time ago.

My oldest daughter is taking me to a movie today, we are going to see Death Wish. She and I like action movies, we also went to the latest Die Hard movie together, since no one else wanted to go. We love the Die Hard movies. Other than that I have no weekend plans.

    • debg March 10, 2018 / 2:45 pm

Marco Polo is great fun! Have they tried the options for funny voices?

      • Patty March 10, 2018 / 3:13 pm

No, maybe I should. Nothing more fun than your Meemaw being weird.

      • Patty March 10, 2018 / 5:16 pm

Apparently no one had noticed the voice option, until I found it, thanks to you. I started a thing, lol.

        • DebG March 10, 2018 / 6:21 pm

I like to think of myself as a bad influence for the good.

  12. Emsthemonster March 11, 2018 / 12:49 pm

Yay, after 5 terrible weeks, this is the first weekend I haven’t had to take anyone to hospital. Family members and pets are on the mend and the weather is pleasant! It is great to have an uneventful weekend 🙂

    • dubravkamcvmd March 11, 2018 / 1:31 pm

That’s great! Hope your life stays uneventful for a while!

    • Murray C March 11, 2018 / 3:12 pm

May your life be a stream of happier events from now on, Ems!
