The possum link contains the picture from Mike’s “I’m living a lie, Mister Duck” post, one of my all-time favorites!

I agree, it was one of the best Cutetropolis posts!

That IS a big turtle! ?

    • Alice Shortcake March 19, 2018 / 9:28 am

I thought it was a forced perspective photo until I clicked on the video!

        Same here!

The comments on the gorilla post prove that anything can be turned into a political debate (well, “debate” used loosely, here; more like liberal-bashing). I think Louis is cute and I too would want to keep my hands (and snacks) clean, but I wonder if walking that way hurts his back at all.

I need a handful of baby bunny today. My aunt passed away at 3:30 this morning. Her husband and daughters were with her. I am sad, but glad she is no longer suffering.

    • dubravkamcvmd March 19, 2018 / 9:45 am

      I’m sorry.

    • Gigi The cat lady March 19, 2018 / 10:40 am

My condolences to you and your family.

    • Ricky's Mom March 19, 2018 / 10:44 am

Very sorry for your loss, Allein. I’m glad her family could be with her to say goodbye.

I avoid reading comments nearly everywhere on the internet except Cutetropolis. (I do follow a few other blogs where the commentary is routinely positive and kind.)

Condolences to you and the family on your loss. I’m glad the bunnies could be here for you.

Thanks, Mike, and everyone else. Your messages popping up in my email have made the day a little better. Surprisingly, I’ve been less teary all day than I expected. I think because, unlike the other recent deaths in my family, this was expected, and in some ways a relief (she was suffering), and I got to see her and say goodbye. So I’m a little more at peace with it. The viewing will be Thursday and the funeral Friday. I already had Friday scheduled off and I can just leave work a couple hours early on Thursday, and then I’m off all next week.

So sorry. At least you can hold some virtual baby bunnies.

    • debg March 19, 2018 / 9:36 pm

      So sorry, Allein.

    • 6rabbits March 20, 2018 / 12:50 am

      Many sympathies, Allein.

    • Murray C March 20, 2018 / 9:26 pm

I am sorry, Allein. I hope everyone is OK. A handful of baby bunnies would certainly be helpful – there’s certainly nothing cuter than baby buns.

Also love Albatross courtship. And possums, tho’ I don’t recall the other link Dubra mentioned.

And, hello again, Phred’s Mom and thanks for sending in the beautiful ape. Saw a news video on him but missed the part about his being from our local zoo!

Um…I just caught this on the bunny post:

The owner and operator of the Rabbitry is Adriana who is proud of their close and hands-on approach towards breading of the rabbits.

They really should have proofread better.

    • Murray C March 20, 2018 / 9:27 pm

Oops, I hope that’s not why they breed them!!!!!?

  5. Faye March 19, 2018 / 2:59 pm

    Big turtle. Humans too close!

  6. Rhea March 19, 2018 / 4:09 pm

Everybody please remember that rabbits live for years and require special care; they are not throwaway toys for Easter. If you want a pet rabbit, read up on them first and consider adopting from a rescue group.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike March 19, 2018 / 7:39 pm

Hear, hear! The local rabbit rescue group in my area has been pushing this message lately in anticipation of Easter.

    • Murray C March 20, 2018 / 9:29 pm

Standing ovation! The Rabbit Rescue I used to work with shakes in their boots at Easter but always manages to get a PSA on a local TV station with just this information. And there’s the “Make Mine Chocolate” movement as well.

Turtle looks like a creature from Harry Potter! (Allein, my sympathy to you and your family.)

  8. 6rabbits March 20, 2018 / 12:52 am

That much extreme bunny cuteness has kilt me ded!! Did you see the lettle feets? And the tiny prosh lop ears? Squeeeeeee!

  9. Michael March 20, 2018 / 4:58 am

    (1) The bunnies are cute, but I’d feel a lot better if the photos were from a rescue organization rather than a breeder. Not sure we need more pet rabbits than are provided by rabbits breeding on their own.

    (2) How can albatross live that long? And still be breeding?? I think of long-lived animals being slow-moving (elephants; tortoises) or living in cold climates (Greenland shark; bowhead whale) — something that keeps their metabolism slow. Albatross are not hummingbirds, for sure — they mostly glide. But they’re still birds; I thought ALL birds had a “fast motor.” Amazing. But I wasn’t clear how they feed the young; it sounded like the absent parent went away to collect food for weeks (“Wisdom left to gather food FOR HER FAMILY [emphasis mine]. She’s expected to return in a week or two”), but the food they collect won’t “keep.” It’s regurgitated fish, right? Seems like the parent who stays would have to leave the chick to hunt every day.

    (3) I thought the monster in Kong Skull Island looked implausible standing straight up, but Louis has me rethinking my position. He does arch his back — their hips just aren’t build like ours are — but he looks remarkably natural walking fully upright. Maybe he’s the next step in evolution. I, for one, welcome our new gorilla overlords.

    (4) Loggerheads do get big (Wikipedia says 3 feet long is typical, but 9 feet is possible, which seems like a lot of variation), but from the video it still seems like it COULD have been forced perspective. I only ever saw humans BEHIND the turtle.

    • Murray C March 20, 2018 / 9:32 pm

Ah, yes, regurgitated fish. I remember years ago when I had occasion to see a lot of nature documentaries and they’d show a seabird returning to the nest and the little nestling would clack at her bill, which action promoted the regurge. I saw scenes like that so many times that I swore I started to have a slight gag reaction.
