Not That Mike The Other Mike

How time flies. Maru, our favorite confinement-craving cat, turns eleven years old today. His ever-attentive mommy Mugumogu has compiled this look back at his past year. Watching his adventures, including mastering the hammock, opening a pizzeria, and trying on wigs, it’s hard to believe one can can pack so much living into one life.     Maru in the hammock makes me very envious. Perfect day for it and I’m off…but I don’t have a hammock. 🙁

    Thanks to Maru I now know how difficult it is to climb a ladder whilst wearing a cardboard corset.

    Thread-jack: My former roommate (who currently lives in Japan!) is trying to rehome his cat who lives in Athens, Ohio. Jimjam is a white and tabby shorthair (not nearly as fluffy as Maru). If anyone needs a new furbaby, please let me know here in the comments!

    P.S. I’d take him, but I don’t even want to think of what kind of bureaucracy that would entail, getting a cat from Ohio to Austria!

    I’d forgotten about half of those things that he did in that video. Him trying to get into the hammock is one of my favs!

    I thought – I don’t have time right now to look at 14+ minutes of Maru, I’ll just take a peek – 14+ minutes later here I am. Gosh, if he was 11 in 2017 he’s really getting up there. Cats are considered geriatric at about 9 or 10 I think (at least mine was!) Maru, you must live forever!

      I think he’s got plenty of mileage left, especially with the way Mugumogu cares for him and Hana. I’ve had cats that lived to 16 and 18, and I remember my dad telling me that during the Great Depression, the family cat “Kitty” reached a healthy 20+ years – on a diet of canned salmon because back then that was the ‘cheap stuff’!

        I certainly hope so. My cat is in her 18th or 19th year – we’re not sure because she was a “showed up at the door one day” cat. We think she was about a year or so when we first had her. Canned salmon, huh???

        Encouraging to hear. Our cat is doing pretty well for an old lady, tho’ her abilities to jump up on even low things is greatly diminished. But her appetite is good and her demands are voiced LOUD and clear – well, maybe not so clear, but we certainly are made aware that something’s on her mind.
