It’s a lazy Caturday and I’m sleeping in, so feel free to talk about whatever you’d like to. For inspiration, here’s a stripey mini-tiger sent in by Julia A.

I’m home with a nasty viral respiratory extravaganza and I wish I had that looooong, soft, striped body lying in bed next to me, available for stroking and snorgling.
Sorry to hear that, rest and take care of yourself. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you!
I just got over one of those – full 2 weeks for recovery. Lots of fluids – obvious but effective. Steamy broth good, too. And tea. With honey. And maybe just a “touch o’ the cratu’r” as they say in Ireland.
Right! I’m going down the hall to a neighbor’s for cocktail hour this evening, if I’m at all ambulatory.
Feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon! π
How are you feeling? Hope you’re well on the way to getting over the worst of it.
That kitty is stretched in three directions. Stylish too. Knows how to mix dots and stripes.
My entire goal today is to sit in the back yard with the dog. Before I clean and reline the stove top. Dog first. Chores second.
You’ve got your priorities straight!
Ok. Check off first priority. Sat out for an hour in backyard and front porch. Gave Bucky, a black Lab rescue, a good brushing while we were on the porch. I used a fine wire brush that tickles him. He was laughing and rippling his skin. I envy dogs and cats being able to wripple their skin.
PS: Bucky started my new walking routine this week. He got out of the house!! Made me follow him for two blocks until a neighbor helped me catch him and drove us home.
Thankfully, I didn’t die in the street from chasing him cause I had no phone or id on me.
No rest for the wicked, today is clean the fridges day. First, empty the upstairs fridge into the downstairs fridge and clean it and then repeat in the opposite direction. I should be finished in time to take advantage of the sunshine and warm weather we’ll have here this afternoon.
Gack! You’re making me want to crawl back into bed with your tales of cleaning. I should be cleaning today (both my stove AND fridge need it) but after taking doggy for a nice looong walk, I’m heading out to shop at Goodwill. My wardrobe updating is taking precedence today! Then AHL Hockey tonight, last regular game of the season and then my team heads to the playoffs. YEAH TEAM!!!!
Oh and cute pic, my min pin does the same thing, he’s a 17-lb bed hog. He moves around so much that I’ve actually ended up on the other side of the bed than where I started from because he NEEDS his space. LOL
I’d like to lay in bed with my stripey kitty. I can’t though, it’s moving day at my daughter’s house. Moving, then cleaning, because no one wants to leave grunge for the new owner…except the old owner of my daughter’s new house, who left grunge on the stove and fridge. Sorry, AJ, more cleaning talk.
Today, tomorrow and probably Monday are going to be devoted to gardening. I’ve already dug up about 40 pounds of weeds – no joke – and I have a ton of pruning and pulling ivy, and me with a bad shoulder. I wish I hadn’t heard anything about fridges – I have a fridge and two freezers that need defrosting and cleaning. Yarghhh! During the warm months I liken the relationship of our house and garden to “The Picture of Dorian Grey” – the better the garden looks the worse the house looks.
Murray, I ditched my stove cleaning for a massive dusting project instead. Bad left shoulder.
?Misery loves company, etc.
I was just kissing the back of my bunny’s head and wondering how your quest was going – did you say it hit a snag? I have bags of bunny fluff from brushing! (tempt, tempt)?
I have been draping Theo’s bunny fluff on my bushes for the birds to use in nest-making. Wonder what the neighbors think?! Mini-lops molt like crazy!! My lionhead bun doesn’t shed at all, but Theo makes up for it. (Be aware of that, anyone looking to be slave to a mini-lop!) Nice weather Sat meant more brushing and…dun dun DUUNN…nail clipping!
I comb my four spring-shedding cats on the back patio so that the fluff floats around for the birdies to use nesting. Waste (waist) not want not (furry wide-loads).
My quest is at a dead stop. ?
Oh, Rats! I’m so sorry.? Do you know if there are any rabbit rescue groups in your area? They will often have events at pet stores to raise awareness and funds and often have a rabbit or two with them.

Hopefully they’re all safe with the earthquakes in Japan .____.
Andrew I was thinking about Japan too. I just saw video on CNN. I thought of Maru, Shiro cats, the turtle man etc. I feel familiar with the people who become known on the net through the cute. It is frustrating to not know exactly where they live and how they are. And seeing the broken homes of all the other people we do not “know” is heartbreaking as the net has made other countries architecture familiar as well. The net has expanded our connections as humans imho.
I love the photo of Maru peeping out of what looks like a huge hamburger bun! And, yes, we wish them well and safe, and hope they’re not in the worst-hit area.
That huge hamburger bun bed looks just like a toy in a smartphone game I play called Neko Atsume Cat Collector (which I highly recommend to fellow cat lovers)!
Chances are they’re a long way from the earthquakes. Those happened on Kyushu, which is pretty far south. Tokyo and most of the other major cities are on islands farther north. In fact, that’s how my husband and I first started talking, over the Kobe earthquake — he was living in Japan at the time, and I knew him in an online discussion group and knew he was somewhere in Japan, so wrote him and expressed good wishes that he hadn’t had any problems with the earthquake. His reply? “What earthquake?” He was living in Kyushu at the time, too. So odds are Maru and Hana are far away from the current problems in Kumamoto.
I got up early and had approximately six inches of hair chopped off. Then stopped for some hot chocolate at B&N, came home and put on comfy clothes. Sorry to say, but I have cleaning to do, too.
I predict tomorrow I will pour out entirely too much shampoo before realizing half my hair is gone. ?
I was just wondering why my comment on the puffer fishy was deleted? I didn’t touchy tha fishy! π
Caz, that may have been an error on my part. I’ll see if I can restore the comment, but you’re welcome to leave it again. My apologies.
(Update: I restored your comment, plus a few others that I unapproved by mistake while cleaning up spam. Big screwup on my part, but all better now.)
I’ve clicked on a few comments recently from my email that weren’t actually there when the page loaded.
That would have been my fault. Sorry, that won’t happen again.
I see it now, thank you! Wish it had been a more interesting comment :/
Well to take part in what everyone is up to today, i will be mainly petting my sheepies and ignoring housework.
You have sheepies?! I wanna pet the sheepies! ?
Three rescued sheepies and a 16 year old goat π
The biggest wooled ( um, overweight) loves scratchies and would love to have many hoomins turn up to pet her!
I come touchy tha
fishiessheepies! πLOL! Yes! π
I don’t suppose you live anywhere near New Jersey with those sheepies..?
Upstate NY, i’ll book a seat for them on Amtrak and send them down for the day π
Miss Moo appeared on CO a while back, um, dressed as Bob The Builder…oh and they also appeared wearing santa hats!
Cool. I’m sure the condo association won’t mind.
This one?
http://cuteoverload.com/2014/10/29/missy-moo-how-do-u-do/
I like the hat. Blue is my favorite color.
Ooo New Jersey to Long Island via Manhattan is a breeze. Allein I’m next on the sheepses.
Would they like a trip to FL? I would love to pet the sheepies!
Road trip! Hop in!!
Me, too, me, too!!!
That’s the Miss Moo, and them in their hats here..
http://cuteoverload.com/2014/12/02/sheep-with-santa-hats/
That’s actually the first post that came up in my search results (I searched for “bob the builder”). Didn’t realize it was the same sheeps. π
BTW, how did a sheep come to be called “Moo”? Identity crisis? ?
It just kind of developed into Missy-Moo, because she is so big, we would joke she was almost the size of a small cow.
π
I will be cleaning internally this weekend for my first-ever colonoscopy Monday! Feel the excitement, people! As I’m also grappling with a drippy head cold and cough, I’m out to buy cough syrup that isn’t red, purple, or green.
Beautiful kitty cat cheered me up. Thanks, Mike.
Been there , done it, not pleasant I’m afraid to say. Make sure you let the air out during or afterwards. Lying on your back afterwards isn’t a good idea in my experience to let the air out, so I got stomach ache.
Ahhh the Colonoscopy. I have to have one done once a year due to my family history. IMHO this is so worth all the prep and bathroom time. I am determined not to die from Colon Cancer. If it is detected early enough you don’t even need cancer treatment. This year my doctor found five precancerous polyps. Snipped them while I was still asleep. Done and done. Frightening but exactly what a Colonoscopy is for.
Buy baby wipes and drink lots of h2o. Good luck.
Thanks, Faye & Scoobie! Will take all your advice. Faye, so glad your med people are on top of your polyps.
Me too! Let us know “how it goes” for you.
This will put your ordeal in perspective:
Steve Martin, Martin Short, Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman would all get together for their colonoscopies at one big house with four bathrooms. They would prep and play poker together. Even go to the clinic together the next day.
When asked how that worked out Steve Martin replied, “Lots of laughs but the game goes slow. The four of us are not at the table at the same time.”
Great story!
?
Yup, my husband has regular colonoscopies too because of a bunch of polyps found in his first couple, so now they do them regularly just to be safe.
And yes, if it’s caught early, colon cancer is no big deal. My grandmother had her first (and I think only) colonoscopy when she was 80, and they found a bunch of precancerous polyps. Treated them, and she lived to be nearly 104. Here’s hoping you guys all do, too!
Nice to know!!! And good for her!!
What are the best cat toys? So far for me, small furry animal toys and a furry ball with bell in it. I got one of these yesterday, it’s got a pull thing to wind it up which makes it shake and move – which seems to confuse poor kitty http://greatandsmall.co.uk/great-small-jittery-mice-cat-toy
Well, if you ask our boy, he’d probably say these:
Lol!!!
You are so right! My husband has long hair and uses these and he is constantly having to take them away from the kitties when he needs one! π
My mom got him some of his own. He will literally go and dig them out of the toy basket (which is full of catnip mice and jingle balls and other actual cat toys). He knows what he wants.
If I drop one, I know I better pick it up quick or it will disappear. On Easter I had my hair loosely pulled back, and the elastic fell out. Just as I was realizing it was gone and thinking where to start looking, he came along batting at something that went under the door. Yup, it was my ponytail holder.
He also has been known to try to steal them right from my hair. Which is kinda painful. π

popular,$9 (cheap).
What’s the best cat scratch tower in your experience? I don’t like the look of most cat towers – they don’t fit well into a room
I’m thinking about getting one of these: http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/scratching_posts/scratching_posts/scratching_barrell/194645
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
I’m in Florida at my friends’ house so no cleaning for me. I’m sitting by their pool enjoying some warm (non-Canadian) weather and some iced tea and corn chips. Tis the life. Missing my parrot, though. He’s staying with his gramma this week which I’m sure he’s loving. Oops, out of iced tea – off I go to the fridge!
We moved to Florida last fall, but I’m not sitting by the pool today — the pump died a few days ago, and since he’s still not supposed to stay submerged for any length of time after recent surgery, my husband opted to have the pros come in and take care of fixing it and cleaning the pool. Which is rapidly turning green.
Fortunately, it’ll be a while before it reaches this stage:
http://terriblerealestateagentphotos.com/post/127875306486
oooh, nasty. Mow the pool, indeed! ?
I have had that pool in some nightmares.
Hi all, cleaning is done– actually got the balcony cleaned free of spiders and their eggs *yueeeuck shivers* before the nicer weather comes. I am on the 17th floor and the spiders on this building are freaking massive. *eghhhhahhwww shivers again*
Now off to see ‘Eye in the Sky’ with Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman *sigh re Rickman*
If anyone is interested I will let you know how it is. Later!
Please let us know. ?
Me, too, re Alan Rickman. But I love spiders, too. (not in the same way, mind)
Ohhh the spiders; like you Murray I like an occasional spider indoors, you know the little glassy coloured ones or the leaping Zebra dudes, heck a Daddy-Long-Legs has character but the balcony spidersβ¦ I have no problem with one or two out there but it gets so bad here in the summer time, it is horror movie like. You cannot go outβonce I opened the balcony screen door and no exaggerationβthe tear of nests and webs was not only audible but I felt the resistance when pushing the door open and then, three dropped down.. ugiahahghahghghghaaaaahhh shiversβ¦ and they are HUGE. I take it I am one of the few in the building who hasnβt to date used insecticide as I am clearly the go-to balcony but man-o-man I am considering it.
Ok, the movie? Good, different from other βwarβ moviesβthis is not Zero Dark Thirtyβthis is slow, awful building tension and well, mixed with farce. As my companion and I discussed afterwardsβwe know it on some level that through technology there is the ability to globally work geographically literally across the world but this really makes it clearβvery clear. Aaron Paul plays as in BB the local moral compass butβ¦ I donβt think the stunt his character pulls would/ could happen. But? What do I know. It is worth seeing.
Rickman and Mirren do their usual. π
Remind me to never move to wherever it is you live.
When I was in college we used to get huge black spiders in the landing just inside our door (thankfully they never came up the stairs). We kept a broom at the bottom of the stairs and would stand on the bottom step and sweep them out as hard as we could. I went out once and there was what looked like a miniature tarantula sitting on the sidewalk a few feet from the door. I think he was dead, because I left him alone and when I came back he hadn’t moved. I swept him off into the grass. *shudder*
It could have just been faking it until you went away… π
Nah, I went to class and came back and it was still there in the same spot.
I think I get it! I just tried to look at a video (it wouldn’t download for some reason) of spiders falling from the sky – they’re tiny but they spin some silk and fly on the wind, wherever it takes them and leave silk all over the landscape! That’s the horror movie you were talking about!!!
Thanks for the movie report – we don’t see a lot of movies, life seems to get too busy, but if we get a chance to on Netflix, I will suggest it to spouse!
Had a late night last night (had a big party) and am a bit hungover. I can get hungover merely by second hand smoking. And when I say a bit I mean to say that all functions are at minimum level. Reading this open thread was particularly nice cause I felt like being a part of a conversation between friends but without the noise and the need to jump in. Good luck with the house cleaning and the colonoscopy and shopping (both for clothes and cat toys)
Have a great weekend!
Alas, being self-employed, I’m working this weekend. At least that only involves sitting at my computer. And it’s not nonstop; I have to deal with stuff as it comes in, and get some breaks here and there.
Our silly greyhound Melody, who has fallen in LOVE with the 3-year-old little girl next door, just got to take a walk with her and my husband. It’s clearly the highlight of her day! Well, except for trying to join our mail carrier on her delivery route. Even the mailman isn’t afraid of her. It’s a good thing we didn’t want a watchdog! π
Ah , the wonderful world of the digital work economy. You may find this BBC documentary interesting.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b075pm43
Thanks, I’ll listen to it. I’ve actually been working at home for nearly 35 years; I tried working in an office again a couple of times, but discovered that punching someone else’s clock drove me crazy. So these days it’s just me and my computer. It’s not for everybody, of course; you have to be willing to make yourself work. I do best with deadlines that aren’t too far out so I have no excuse to avoid it any more. Plus I can work as much or as little as I want to, and when I want to, which more than balances out the lack of benefits (which I get through my husband anyway).
I get that – I was a free lance illustrator – poor but happy.

I never see kids like that when I go shopping.
*pouts*
Ok. That. Is. A. Cute. Kid. Priceless pic.
Perfect Spring day here in SE Pennsylvania.
Went to opening day at our town’s farmers
market, buying coffee, scones and harissa
for the tagine we’re gonna make. Tulips at
their brilliant peak now. My fella made a
delicious mushroom risotto for lunch.
Tomorrow we go to the Phils/Nats game
and have cider-braised franks while we
pray for the Phils. That Bryce Harper is
a phenomenon. Hope Papelbon is not
pitching.
We live in the same area! We’re west of Phila. Can’t talk about sports, however – not in my purview.?
Phils won! The usual Nats bloodbath never
occurred, and the losing pitcher (tenth inning)
was Papelbon. Oh frabjous day! And the franks
were scrumptious, too. Whoo-hoo!
Callooh! Callay!
You guys eat well. Mmmmmm π
Come to the Philly area sometime, FKAWaldenetc.,
and sample the goodies (many) and the history (much),
Murray and I will welcome you happily.
I’m only an hour and a half or so from Philly. I have a friend in Boothwyn, too.
I believe that’ s closer to Murray C’s neck of
the woods, but well within reach of Bucks
County. Y’all come!
I lived in Bucks County (Levittown) for a year, from 2000-2001.
Yes, indeedy!
That’s very gracious of you Phred’s Mom, thank you for the invite! π
I’ve cleaned four hamster cages, a turtle tank, bearded dragon tank, hedgehog cage, tortoise box, baby tortoise tank, outdoor tortoise enclosure, filled all the bird feeders, fed the fish, and of course walked the dog. Finally got to sit down for a moment and check out this page. Now it’s off to the gym! π Love reading everyone’s post. So many busy bees today! π
Pot, meet kettle! What an ambitious day–how do you have any energy left to go to the gym? **Salutes respectfully**
That would be the magic of caffeine, nice pot of tea, coupled with the fact it’s not a work day. That always seems to provide more energy. π
So now I’m getting emails from comments that I’ve already gotten emails from before. Just got one two minutes ago for a comment that was posted at 12:58 this morning and I’m sure I read hours ago. β
Sorry again, that was my fault.
What are you doing man?!?!? π
My work’s employee group on facebook has a “Weekend Open Thread” going on right now, too. There are also a lot of cats in there. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
To all Nomm Tommers,
I wasn’t going to post any comments today, but since this is an open thread: I am going through H-E-double hockey sticks with the government over a disability issue. Feeling a bit down right now. Could use some cute therapy.
I tried posting a hug but my tablet is giving me a hard time with image urls.
Here’s a cute little birdy, instead. ?
Hugs sent to you, Duckie ((())). Stay strong! π
Big woolly sheepie hugz! Please ignore the wild spring onion breath, they just love that stuff. I hope things get sorted out for you soon!
I will send victory vibes out to you Duckie. Here is a bit of cute too. ????
I tried to send a photo of my buns but it said the file was too big (?????) Instead, I’ll send this ?(That’s the emoji for a hug – I’m glad they explained it) Good luck in your quest.
If you’re uploading a picture it has to be 50 KB or less. I usually make a copy and then resize it in a photo editor until it’s small enough. Your other option is to upload it to an online photo album of some sort, make it publicly viewable, and link from there.
Thanks, I knew there was a step I needed to take but wasn’t sure how to go about it. I have Photoshop elements – I guess that would be the ticket????
That should work. I use MS Office Picture Manager. There’s an edit menu and one of the options is resize. I do it by percentage; maybe start with 50% if your file is over 100KB. After resizing, save and then check the size on the file again. Repeat as necessary (unless you want to be all smart and do the math ahead of time π ). Once it’s just a little over 50KB, I’ll do like 90 or 95% so I don’t wind up making it too tiny. (This is also why I make a copy, so I don’t alter the original file and make it too small for other purposes I might have. Often I’ll just delete the copy after I upload it to cut down on clutter.)
Thank you for the info. (I’m sure NTMTOM thanks you as wellβΊοΈ)
If I read this slowly and carefully I might understand it as not a foreign language. I have many other abilities. Computer-abilities are not mine. I might be able to stop bugging NTMTOM when trying to show a pic of my own.
Don’t be concerned about bugging me, I’m always happy to help. π
Id like to give you a not creepy stalker hug. You are a sweetheart. βΊοΈ
Duh, MS=not iPhone. (Told you it was a foreign language)
I need someone to hold my hand. Tell me exactly what free app I need to download to resize my home pictures to be able to show them in under 50 KBs on an iPhone. (KB=Kerfluffel Bunnies?) (Would Faye be able to pet a KB?)
I get frustrated quickly after trying for awhile now with the Google and figuring out this resizing thing.
I really do have other good abilities. Please no judgment on my computer inabilities. ?βΊοΈ
Yeah, I only do it on my laptop. I haven’t figured out how to edit pictures on my tablet (which is Samsung, not i). The only i-thing I have is my 5th generation i-pod nano which is getting cranky in its old age.
KB = kilobytes, but I like yours better. π
Yep. ?
Now try and explain what a kilobyte is and watch as my eyes glaze over because I’m imagining a clustered tangle of Kerfluffel Bunnies.
Wanders away in the middle of your next sentence happily smiling and humming my new Kerfluffel Bunny song.
A byte is a unit of digital information (made up of 8 bits) and a kilobyte is 1000 of ’em.
All this talk of bytes is making me hungry.
*Wanders off to the kitchen to find a bit of something to byte.*
I’m sorry, Allein, but I have to. Is that “bits” as in rab-“bits”? Because then, Kerfluffel Bunnies would REALLY make sense!
Hmmm….could be! They say the internet is a series of tubes filled with cats, but it could be rabbits…. I think the other thing might just be cat propaganda.
Are Kerfluffel Bunnies soft? At this point in my not going so good quest I would settle for petting a virtual bunny.
I’m telling’ you, Faye, I’d send you a baggie full of bunny fluff!!! ?
Thank you Murray!! It’s the thought that counts.
http://www.cafepress.com/+kerfuffle-bunny+mugs
Nice!!!
Oh, HaHa, we are in the same boat, let me tell you. And I have other abilities, too, but what I wouldn’t give to be a computer whiz.
By the way, do you know what a “Haha” is? (in case you don’t) it’s a landscape feature, a large grassy ditch, to keep the picturesque cows in the distance without having a fence to spoil the view.
Murray C, this is awesome!
I chose Haha because
1. It makes me happy.
2. It makes me happy to see it when some random person uses it in any typed sentence.
And now 3. Because it will make me happy again with the sweet mental picture you have given me to see in my head whenever I see Haha written.
It is wonderful learning new things, especially when they are so fun!
Thank you!
?
I had never heard of an Haha wall so I had to look it up to see what it was :
Maybe it’s called a HaHa wall because you can stand on top to throw rocks down at your enemies. Lol.
You’re probably right, that may be how they began, tho’ now they tend to be used in the deer parks on estates or on farms. And “Haha” is shorter than “Bamboozler”.
lol…good luck! Don’t know if you’re a PC or a Mac, but in windows, if you just click once on the file in the folder, it’ll show some file info at the bottom. One of those bits of info is the file size. So after I resize and save the file, I just look back at the folder and see if it changed enough.
Here goes an attempt – my 3rd – to send a photo.
Yay, it worked, albeit a little fuzzy. But then again, bunnies
ARE fuzzy. This is what I had originally intended to send to Duckie to help her get her cute quotient up. On the left is Fergus “Spats” MacFurry, and on the right is Clementine.
Yay bunnies! ? ?
The one on the left looks like a Boston terrier bunny. ?
?
Adorable! Do they often snuggle?
All the time. They groom each other, and if I rub his butt, he’ll groom her like mad. He’ll groom anything, come to that, as long as I’m rubbing his butt.
?
Kinky, Murray!
?
Ooo they are beautiful. Soft right!?
Yes, very. But there are breeds that are even softer. Can’ t remember the names right off the bat – chinchilla buns, I do know – but others as well.
Rex rabbits are the softest–like velvet.
Is Spats a Dutchie? One of my best buns ever was a Dutch/mini-lop mix. They look so cute together!?
Yes. He’s a Dutch, blue and white – I guess that makes him Delft!
?
I know very little, well actually nothing about bun behaviour so here goes a stupid question… did Clementine arrange her ear over MacFurry like that on her own or did you place it like that?
Yes, very. But there are breeds that are even softer. Can’ t remember the names right off the bat – chinchilla buns, I do know – but others as well.
They often end up like that because of her lop ears. It’s awfully cute when they do and prompted my taking the photo.
It is awfully cute but may be awkward in professional settings. π
Which may account for our not having long, floppy ears It’s an evolutionary feature.
π
These are great.. Can I please have a cheeky request and ask that you visit https://cattree.uk and see out cat trees? If you like them feel free to share. Great article also, we will share it to our site now. Thanks!
