    Kitten’s name should be Grandpa.

    • allein April 15, 2017 / 11:42 am

Ha! He does kinda remind me of my grampa…

Do you need a Superhero? Is your home menaced by evildoers? How about sweet Pusheen stuffies that are actually monstrous dinosaurs in disguise? Well there’s a new hero on the block, and she’s isn’t taking ‘no’ for an answer! Introducing The White Terror(c)!

    • EAG46 April 15, 2017 / 9:50 am

Oh that was cute. Do you think Lily The White Terror will get a sidekick?

      • Jan April 15, 2017 / 9:59 am

Maybe someday, but for right now, I don’t know that I could handle two!

        • Murray C April 15, 2017 / 11:03 am

I can see why – she looks to be a handful! Adorably so.

That mascot kitty is so darned cute – she seems to be a kitten so one might conclude that s/he will grow into those ears and whiskers.

And the new baby giraffe – she’s getting a good cleaning from her mom – has she nursed yet? Doesn’t seem so. And aren’t humans lucky not to have to clean off a newborn with our tongues.

Mike, I’m still having to fill in my name and email and click the notify box whenever I comment – is that the new normal?

          • Laura April 15, 2017 / 3:42 pm

I just saw online that the baby is a boy! They’ll have some kind of a contest to name him, they said. He’s a very cute little giraffe!

    • debg April 15, 2017 / 10:58 am

      What a ferocious girl!

    • Jan April 15, 2017 / 8:59 am

Oooh, I see two little feet!

    • Jan April 15, 2017 / 9:57 am

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A BABY GIRAFFE! Way to go, April!

    • Gigi the cat lady April 15, 2017 / 10:04 am

Damn I missed the birth, got there just after!!

      • Jan April 15, 2017 / 10:13 am

How long before they get up on their feet? I think it’s great how the giraffe in the stall behind has been keeping a comforting eye on the proceedings. ♥

            • Laura April 15, 2017 / 10:57 am

That’s a very strong baby! I’ve seen numerous times when they say it takes a giraffe baby up to an hour to stand, but April Jr. was up in far less time than that.

I also noticed that the Toys R Us logo switched almost immediately to Babies R Us. ?

          • debg April 15, 2017 / 11:01 am

I still do that. You’ll be fine, babyG.

        • Nancy April 15, 2017 / 3:30 pm

The giraffe looking on has been daddy. His name is Oliver & this is his first baby.

          • Jan April 15, 2017 / 3:59 pm

Well then, nicely done, Oliver! Your son looks like a chip off the ol’ block!

  3. gigi the cat lady April 15, 2017 / 9:04 am

I have si-fi on my mind today because it’s the first episode of the new season of Doctor Who tonight!!!! So the first thing I thought was a Martian kitten with fuzzy antennas. ?

Update on web server problems: A couple of days ago, the problems appeared to clear up, and the website is much more reliable now. Thanks to all for their patience and understanding during the technical difficulties.

    • dubravkamcvmd April 15, 2017 / 11:22 am

Like Murray C I’m still having to fill in name and email to comment. Is that the way it will be?

      • Not That Mike The Other Mike April 15, 2017 / 11:24 am

Let me push some buttons and see what happens. This is a side effect of other changes, so I may have to roll some of them back.

  5. D B April 15, 2017 / 9:39 am

What a sweetie; wearing eyeliner too, in addition to the hair/whisker extensions!

  6. AJ April 15, 2017 / 10:44 am

Oh my how darling. Hope little sweetie grows into those ears!

And I was surprised that the weekend post wasn’t about April, and I think it’s appropriate that she gave birth this month. Maybe she was just waiting so April could have an April baby???

Busy weekend as my landlord isn’t selling my place and I need to be out by beginning of June. Yeah he offered me first dibs on buying but the price was out of our price range, like sticker shock high but then again we do pay the “sunshine tax” on everything here in SoCal. Found a place and will get the keys in a couple of weeks. After looking on-line, I decided to just move down the street to a nice complex and stop stressing. Plus, bonus points for it being right next to my dog sitter. I really like my sitter and the thought of trying to find another one, (shudder).

So weekend will be busy packing and organizing along with my usual chores, I find going back to work more relaxing than being at home, lol. Then dinner with friends and last hockey game of the season before playoffs start. And my team is in the playoffs!!!! Yeah team!!!! I’m hoping they go all the way but we shall see.

    • Murray C April 15, 2017 / 11:05 am

Good luck with all of that, AJ – glad you found something close and with the additional good feature of being close to your dog walker! Way to go.

We’ve had houseguests all week – old friends from out west who are doing a little musical tour. Great seeing them but am glad to have the house back for a bit before yet another guest next week. Got MUCH do – finally getting some long neglected gardening done – TONS of weeds. But I’ve been managing to do it, as long as I sit down. Enjoying the pleasant weather.

    • AJ April 15, 2017 / 11:06 am

Ooops just noticed a typo, so a sentence doesn’t make too much sense. Landlord IS selling the place. Guess I need coffee, lol

    • Laura April 15, 2017 / 11:18 am

A good dogsitter is worth their weight in gold! We had a teenaged neighbor (and her mom, who is crazy about our dogs) take care of the dogs while we were in New Orleans, and they were calm and happy when we got home. Needless to say, we’ll be using their services in the future! There’s another sister, too, who loves to dogsit, but she’s off being a nanny for a new nephew for a few months. I gather they have a whole bunch of kids. It’s a great family with really responsible kids — proof that not all teenagers are bums!

I’m glad you found a place so close. Since my MIL’s death recently, we’ve decided to sell the house that my wonderful husband bought for her to live in and as a future retirement home for himself before I met him. But he decided the Tampa VA is a lot better than the one near the house, which we’ve been renting for a couple of years. We offered the house to the *perfect* renters, but like you, property prices are beyond their means. We feel bad, but at least we’ve given them several months’ notice.

And speaking of houses, we drove past the house we lived in when we lived in New Orleans (before Katrina) and it’s still beautifully cared for. I loved that house! I still miss it, but it’s nice to see that the current resident seems to love it as much as we did.

  7. debg April 15, 2017 / 11:04 am

I want to gently kiss all those ear tufties on Listening Cat.

Another lovely quiet weekend for me: reorganizing my studio now that I’ve moved furniture around; making my own Lovecats Cowl from my Ursula-colored yarn; hopefully some dyeing. If I find the appropriate yarn that’s buried somewhere in the stash, I may even warp up my rigid heddle loom! It sounds so relaxing, I can hardly work up the energy to go see Beauty and the Beast, which I’ve been dying to see.

    • AJ April 15, 2017 / 11:16 am

Oooh that sounds like a fun AND relaxing day. I’ve been wanting to take up weaving/machine knitting but just can’t find the time right now. Sigh, guess another project for when I retire. Enjoy!

  8. tara April 15, 2017 / 11:49 am

Oh the tufties and fluffies and the so fuzzy fuzzy! Ears, whiskers, toe-fluffs! What an adorable little kitty. Actually, I’m reading that look as “hey – what are you still doing on the couch? Get up and get to it!” Okay okay.
Bike ride for me, then grading and photographing at school so I can also help nervous seniors who don’t want to mess a project up. Trader Joe’s is on the list and maybe some more gardening. Nothing too exciting.
Congrats to Mommy April and her new “little” one! And Sweet Lily, looks serious about subduing that, um, whatchamacallit. Go get ’em girl.
    Happy weekend everyone.

    • Jan April 15, 2017 / 3:42 pm

Lily is very serious about subduing things. Whatchamacallits, ribbons, mousie toys, toes… you name it, she’ll subdue it!

  9. Duckie ? April 15, 2017 / 12:52 pm

Kitten is so adorable. Looks like none of the fur/ears/whiskers belong to him. Especially that chin hair. Must be a clever disguise. “I’m not who you think I am. NTTTOT.”

  10. Patty April 15, 2017 / 1:26 pm

Those ears! Funny someone said the kitten should be named grandpa, because one of my daughter’s kittens was nicknamed grandpa face, because she looked like a grumpy old man. She outgrew the grandpa face though.
Sophie has an upset stomach today, I could hear her stomach churning, and she didn’t even try to steal the cats’ treats. She barfed on the couch, confirming my diagnosis.
The husband is hunting Easter eggs with his grandkids today. I am going to hang out with my kids and grandkids this evening. My oldest daughter, who bought her first house, is having an Easter egg hunt in her yard for her kids, even though they are 17 and 13. She said it’s the first time they have had a yard, and they are going to hunt eggs, even if they are too old. The boys were like, “Sure, if candy is involved, I’m in”

    • allein April 15, 2017 / 1:43 pm

I’m 41; my brother just turned 44 last month. My parents still hide eggs. But they have money in them, so who are we to spoil their fun?

One year my brother stopped over their house the night before Easter to get something, and they weren’t home. The two bags of eggs (we each get a room with an equal number of eggs) were on the kitchen table, filled and waiting to be hidden. So he hid them. 😛

(He texted me first and said “should I?” I said “hell, yeah!” My parents had to find them and they still gave us the money.)

      • Murray C April 15, 2017 / 3:03 pm

BRILLIANT! What a riot that must’ve been. It sounds as tho’ your folks may have enjoyed the prank, too, judging from other things you’ve told us about them.

        • allein ? April 15, 2017 / 3:36 pm

Yeah, they thought it was funny.

  11. Birdcage April 15, 2017 / 1:39 pm

I’m hosting my family for an early Easter dinner tonight so I’ve been cleaning and cooking and stressing and such. And taking time out to watch a baby giraffe getting born. And I had to rescue a sparrow that got concussed flying into one of my windows. After a time-out in my stimulus-deprivation tank (a.k.a a shoe box), the sparrow recovered enough to fly away. Busy, busy day here. Days like this is when I wish for a second set of hands around this Birdcage: I love the cooking but the cleaning can kiss my a$$.

  12. allein April 15, 2017 / 1:44 pm

I get Good Friday off and I keep forgetting it’s only Saturday. Then I work Monday and I’m on vacation the rest of the week.

  13. murkle46 April 15, 2017 / 6:57 pm

Look at the size of the ears and muzzle on this kitty! He’s going to grow into a real bruiser when he gets big!

  14. Amyliz April 15, 2017 / 7:29 pm

I am late to the game today but what a lovely kitty and baby giraffe!

I have been pretty worthless today and, for once, I don’t care! Had a tough week at work.

Now having a mild, rumbly thunderstorm here, which I love! Happy rest of the weekend to you all!

  15. Emsthemonster April 16, 2017 / 1:20 pm

I cannot put into words how I hate the major holidays like Christmas and Easter…
Somehow my family thinks we are expected to be normal for these few days even if it was proven 100x that we definitely cannot do it. Anyway, this too shall pass. I will comfort myself with some workout and the cats. 🙁

    • Michelle April 16, 2017 / 4:50 pm

I totally relate to that! I’m not into major holidays either. Fortunately–or rather unfortunately–this year I get a pass because I had 12 gum grafts last week and I’m still swollen, bruised, and confined to eating baby food. A lame trade-off I’ll admit but at least I haven’t been forced to leave the house for ‘family time’. Hope the work out and the cats have done the trick for you!

      • Murray C April 16, 2017 / 4:54 pm

Bless your heart, Michelle, that has got to be so painful.

I never much liked family holidays – me and 4 old people – but now that I get to spend them with friends I love them. (Now I’m old! ?)

        • Emsthemonster April 17, 2017 / 10:22 am

Interestingly enough the preparations are worse than the actual event. My mother still insists on hosting it and she stresses so much on it as if the Queen came for tea. I have offered to host it and Iam there to help her with everything when she still wants to do it all by herself, but she says she isnt dead yet. Thankfully this year my brother did not bring his gf so there were no tears and drama 🙂

      • Emsthemonster April 17, 2017 / 10:11 am

Thank you, Michelle. Yes, the cats provided excellent purr therapy.
This gum graft thingy sounds painful. Speedy recovery to you! How long does it take to get back to normal eating?
