This little cutie is a Beaded Lizard, part of the first successful hatching of Beaded Lizards at the Columbus Zoo since 2000. According to ZooBorns, the Beaded Lizard is a venomous species found in rocky regions of Central and western Mexico, and northern Central America, but due to habitat loss and poaching their numbers are diminishing.
More pictures at ZooBorns. Egg-cellent find, Maureen!
Release the Kraken!
What? No hovertext? I haz a sad. 🙁
Same here!! Hovertext is the cherry bomb on top of it all.
Normally, I don’t find reptiles to be cute, but this little one is definitely saying “ehn!” so I change my mind.
Hai! I’m new! What do you recommend?
“I’m too cute to be venomous. Come closer…let me prove it!”
Great find, Maureen – I love Zooborns!
Me, too! I spend WAY too much time going back and forth between here and there while at “work” 🙂
I want one!
Hovertext has materialized! It’s magic!
I like the hovertext on this one. You’ve got me so spoiled with great hovertext, I actually find myself “hovering over” other animal pics I see on the interwebs!
Ha! I find myself doing that too! Glad to know I’m not the only one =)
I think we all probably do it by now. It doesn’t even have to be a cute animal pic.
That’s one of those bebehs that is simply a small version of an adult face. Like a bebeh capybara: they don’t look all innocent and helpless like a golden retriever puppeh, they just look like miniatures of their parents.
This one is definitely saying, “Here’s JOHNNY!”
Which Here’s Johnny are you referring to? The one from the Tonight show or the one from The Shining?
Either would work, actually…
Yes, that has also struck me about bebeh giraffes – there’s no puppy/kitten phase, they just arrive looking like fully formed mini adults.
Tewtally adorabobble.
What an adorable little lizard guy! I am firmly in the reptiles can be adorable camp. Especially this little one. Hi, baby lizard! Welcome to the world!
… and welcome to my website, first-time commenter! Great to have you with us. I’m always on the lookout for more cute lizards, so stay tuned. 🙂
I’ve been following since day 1, I have no idea why I haven’t commented before. Thanks for the welcome. 🙂
Also known as a Gila Monster.there is even a cheesey 50’s movie about a giant one of these terrorising fun loving white kids.really white, white kids.
😀
Thanks for the MST3K bit!
MST3K! Brilliant!
I’m speechless with laughter. That movie is so bad it’s good.
I agree, those anr the whitest white people I’ve ever seen and I’m a little old chubby white lady. So that’s saying a lot.
