Trying something different today: I’m getting a lot of links that are too interesting not to share, but they don’t inspire any snark so here they are:

I hate to fly but I would not mind being on that plane. Glad they are able to take their furbabies.
Unfortunately not everyone got away from that Alberta wild fire with their furbabies. I’ve heard that some people were evacuated from their places of employment and were not allowed to return home to rescue pets before being forced to leave town. I appreciate human lives must come first and it would endanger rescue workers and firefighters to let too many people cross the barriers to return home for their pets and belongings …. but there’s a fair amount of risk I’d be prepared to take on myself in order to get home to my feathered baby. I pray I’m never in that kind of situatio.
Yeah, I was trying not to think about that part. I know there must have been pets left behind. 🙁
I don’t have the information at work, but I read that a few young men got together and with the permission of owners to go into their houses and the OK of the Fire Department, went back with an escort to get some of the pets that were left behind.
Cheers to the brave rescuers! If I were stuck in that situation, I would not care a fig for what damage might need to be done if someone had to get into the house and rescue my furbabies–I would shower them with thanks and blessings.
Here in Florida the officials have finally figured out that when they call for evacuations due to hurricanes, they darn well better provide shelters that will take pets or many folks simply will not go.
I love the “Links links links” idea. So much positive energy, so much cuteness, adorable critters, brave Men of the Qte, amazing stories – all in one package. Wonderful!
I love it too – I could totally see this becoming a Thing. Great idea Mike!
Yep, count me as a fan too. More please, Mike!
Me, too!!!
Me three!!!
Me second !
This is a nice feature.
I like this format too :O
More stuff to see >:3
I like the Links Links Links, some I had seen others not. It would be fun as a once a week feature.
The hedgie picture reminded of this picture from the evac flights out of Ft. McMurray. Plus here’s a link to a story on one of the pilots – https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2016/05/10/calgary-pilot-breaks-rules-flies-displaced-fort-mcmurray-animals-to-shelters.html.
Love the line about where some of the animals had to go ” Two dogs had to be stored in the bathroom for the safety of the rabbits and chinchillas … We just wanted to make sure some animals didn’t get chewed up,” he said. “I think they all got along pretty well.”
I think that pilot and all the others flying out from Ft. McMurray should be nominated for the inaugural NTMTOM Man (Hero?) of the Month Award.
Also semi funny story about a poor piggie that had to be left behind – http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/fort-mcmurray-pig-marshall-1.3575784
The doggie looks so happy: “I got a window seat!”
That cop is kind of cute. Are we sure that the second time wasn’t intentional? I suspect that there are a few ladies out that wouldn’t mind being swept up by this guy.
Seriously though, that’s a man. fighting a bird of prey for a little joey.
Isn’t he cute? In the linked article, there’s a pic of him making a kissy face at the wallaby that’s adorable.
What will they have to face next – wallaby-hating ninjas? That joey is lucky to have him.
New goal: Move to Oz, get abducted by giant eagle, wait to be rescued and nursed back to health by I-forgot-the-guy’s-name. Think I could start a Go Fund Me page to get myself over there?
I don’t want to NEED animal evacuations, but I wouldn’t mind being a volunteer on on of those flights.
Kudos to the airlines and rescuers. I stayed in my apartment with my two chihuahuas during Hurricane Sandy so I wouldn’t have to leave them in a shelter. We were safe on the second floor but at one point I thought I made a terrible mistake.
I too love this feature. I enjoyed the Hummingbird story. The guy says, “it’s like living with Tinkerbell.” Hilarious.
I’m not close enough to water that I had to evacuate, but I was sitting in the dark listening to the siding under my window trying to pull off the building (though I didn’t know what I was hearing until the next day; it looked like someone grabbed the strip just under my window in the middle and pulled). My best friend was lucky not to lose her house; they lost just about everything on the first floor (and some furniture upstairs because of the dampness), and were out of the house for about 7 months, during which time they had to find a place for three dogs to stay. A friend of her mother’s took her yellow lab, and her sister’s black lab and lab/basset mix stayed at a farm that boards pets until they could finally move back in.
I love this new feature! Wonderful stories. The hummingbird one amazes me!
I googled man dog humming bird. The bird hovers in midair while the dog eats. As soon as the dog looks up the humming bird is dead center in front of the dogs snoot ready to have fun.
The doggie who walked 240 miles to get back home – recently I read about a cat who walked 100 miles to get back home – – HOW CAN CATS AND DOGS DO IT?!?!? I have not found any explanation of how they do it, obviously they were too far to use scent… I’m amazed, moved and flabbergasted. 😮
