You Want to Talk to This Cat

If computer games have taught us anything, this cat is important. This cat is there for a reason. Perhaps the cat will send you on a quest to retrieve the Sacred Staff from the Fire Forest of Flongor. Or maybe you’ll be sent to battle the Three-Headed Grease Beast of Gargelsnarb. Or perhaps you’ll head down to Circle K and fill it up with regular and get some chips and beer and don’t forget to squeegee the windows. Anyway, you definitely want to talk to this cat.

I still can’t believe that dog fell for it.

    The Egyptians were right!

    Poor gullible doggie.

Crap, I just sold the Sacred Staff to the kobold merchant in town. Now I’ve got to schlep back there and buy it from him. Probably wants twice the original price.

    Hm, I don’t have the gold…
    *unsheaths vorpal spatula*

You guys live on a different plane from the one I live on. But I love you all. And you make me laugh even when I haven’t the foggiest idea what I’m laughing at.

    PS gorgeous Kitty.

Me too! But I don’t need to know anything to love Gargelsnarb!

        Yes, that was inspired.

I’m with you, Murray. Don’t know, still love.

      And kitty knows it’s gorgeous.

This once I’m with you Murray C., I’m a fount of useless information when it comes to movies and TV shows and various popular culture stuff but I never got into gaming or role playing or video games.

Am I the only bonafide gamer here?

        • allein ? January 31, 2018 / 6:11 pm

I’m kind of gamer-adjacent…but I’m a bit lost on this thread.

          • Carlotta January 31, 2018 / 7:47 pm

I’m just close enough to a gamer that I get the jargon. However most of you must recognize “vorpal.” Is the spatula also Celestine? (Much more obscure.)

            • allein ? January 31, 2018 / 8:21 pm

I have heard vorpal but I couldn’t place what it was from. (Jabberwocky, for the record; haven’t read it in forever).

              • Blue Footed Booby January 31, 2018 / 9:18 pm

In the Dungeons & Dragons universe vorpal weapons cause sudden decapitation.

It’s a Jabberwocky reference, of course.

My previous D&D character was a gnoll sorceress named Grue Mangeboob who paid for wizard school by dancing at the local gentleman’s club. She went adventuring to find a way to earn a living that doesn’t involve shaking six tassels.

My current character is a Kobold rogue who was kicked out of his tribe for thinking dragons are “just ok.”

                • allein ? January 31, 2018 / 9:20 pm

I’m not into D&D but I have friends who play. And I watch The Big Bang Theory. 😉

            • Murray C February 1, 2018 / 12:02 am

Yes, even I got vorpal. I know the poem by heart. And I watch Bir Bang Theory but it’s no help here. tonight they were even playing Dungeons and Dragons but none of it made any sense to me.

“Gamer-adjacent”! Perfect. I’m definitely a nerd/geek/pop culture person and got the reference because of all my nerd/geek/pop culture minded friends. I am currently going through my first D & D experience. I gotta say that I am not in love with it. It’s getting slowly better but I’m pretty sure I will never be obsessed with it. I was never a game player but really enjoyed watching others play. When I was younger I thought it would be too hard for me to do so I never tried which I now regret. But now with all the different types of games, I feel much less intimidated and recently jumped into Steam and really enjoyed what I’ve found there so far.

My friend who hosts game nights once referred to me as a “casual gamer” when introducing me to a new person. His game nights are mostly board and card games. I like to play but I’ll never have a closet full of games (literally the only actual closet in his house is full of games), or go to something like GenCon (Comic Con for games, basically). I’m not big on the really long, involved board games, either. He does play D&D (so does his girlfriend, though they usually play with different groups) but that’s not what game nights at his house are for.

I’m not into popular culture at all, never have been. It’s curious. About 25 years ago I was led by the nose through a computer game by my two nieces and have never been tempted to try another.

        • Ricky's Mom February 1, 2018 / 9:36 am

Not a gamer at all, though there was, in the very early 90s, a brief period when I enjoyed playing Leather Goddesses of Phobos, which is no longer available except for obsolete systems. I stick to solitaire and crossword puzzles.

        • LunaChickFringe February 1, 2018 / 12:13 pm

Off topic but how is the bun?

          • Murray C February 1, 2018 / 1:19 pm

Thanks for asking, LunaChick – I don’t know – I posted elsewhere a few minutes ago that I’m waiting to hear from the vet who said she would call around noon and it’s now past one. So I’m chewing my fingers a bit. There are any number of reasons she could be running late but of course the mind conjures up all the worst stuff.

Is it disrespectful to gently pat a quest giver? (This is a rare moment in the history of video games, the quest giver is asleep)

  5. birdlady26 January 31, 2018 / 4:57 pm

Aahhhhhh. Chips and beer and a servant to bring them to you. What kitty could wish for anything more.

  6. Birdcage January 31, 2018 / 8:38 pm

I do find myself wanting to talk to that cat.

  7. Flowerfanatic February 1, 2018 / 8:07 am

I haven’t a foggy clue as to what everyone is talking about. I’m not a gamer. My thought was seeing the contented look on this beautiful kitty’s face and know he’s thinking beautiful thoughts while enjoying the warmth of the sunbeam. He’s miles away in a lovely kitty garden. What a great place to be!!
