Hey kids! What time is it? It’s time for the running of the baby goats at Sunflower Farm, in which a frantic flow of bleating, bouncing baby goats runs in and out of the barn until they locate their nursing mamas, which puts them in udder bliss.
Bonus! The kids are still running! What is it with you kids and the running?
Oh my goodness!! ๐๐ What if they can’t find their mommies? Do they all find their mommies? Awww. ๐
Baby goats seem to get very caught up in the moment – not really deep thinkers? The Moms seem pretty calm.
The head butts from the babies to their poor mama’s udders are savage! I don’t think I’d like being reincarnated as a mama goat!
Yeah, there was one especially where it looked extremely painful. Yikes!
they are so cute! Running and jumping and hollering for their moms! But I wonder why they are separated from Mamas in the first place? Does anyone know the answer?
My guess? It’s to give the Mamas a chance to eat in peace and get some rest!
From the Sunflower Farm Creamery website:
“At 2-3 weeks old the kids begin to sleep on their own. This gives the mamas a break, teaches the kids to eat some grain and hay and drink water and enables us to milk in the morning. They are reunited with their dams each morning and spend the day together. At 8 weeks when the kids leave we begin milking twice a day.”
They are, thankfully, all dairy goats who seem to have a pretty great life! Having spent lots of time around goats, I am always glad to see them being used for their milk and not meat. They are fabulous beasties.
Thanks for the info. That sounds nice.
Yes, also thanks. I wondered if the Mamas were being milked for cheese etc. Itโs funny that they didnโt show up at the fence line until the 3rd time the babies came hollering out of the barn! โOh brother, here we go again, and Iโd just found a perfect grass patch on the other side of the hill. I hope itโs still uneaten by the time Junior 1 and Junior 2 are done. Ouch! Ooh, that hurt!โ
I read the description on the video and the ones in the stall at the end were triplets born the day before on their mama’s birthday!
Imagine if you could harness all that energy?? So much cuteness! Gack, just ded but what a way to go.
Have you heard? We’re herd animals! We’re the best! Can’t be bleat!
