Weekend Open Thread

It’s another Caturday, and with it a moment to highlight the important role cats play in our lives. For example, reader Tracy R. counts on her cat Hamster to purr-form a vital health check:

I’m a physician when I’m not attending to Hamster’s every need, so when I sprained my ankle, I knew right away I needed a cat scan … Scan was unremarkable, fortunately, but it did tickle.

All cat scans should be done by cats. How to convince them to communicate the results…..

You always find the best pic’s.

Had cat scans before but not as cute as this one. I love how Hamster is also trying to nibble a few toes. I always had to watch my bare feet around the cats as they loved my feet for some reason and even tho they never broke skin, the sensation was weird, kinda ticklish combined with those sharp teeth.

I think Hamster’s trying to make your foot better! What could be more restoring than cat chin rubs and delicate licks, after all?🥰

And purring is supposed to be beneficial as well!! A friend who was experiencing the odd arythmia episode heard that “applying two kittens directly to your chest” worked wonders. 🤣

That’s fantastic. I agree that cat purrs have healing powers. When I curl up with my upstairs cats for a nap, I think I purr along with them.

This is the shameless animal video from CNN’s “Good Stuff” newsletter today…make sure your sound is on.

I want to go to there, where otters are just available for viewing all over the place.

I”m not sure that the spectators are going to recover from the Cuteness.

Know that I feel like a melted puddle after that.

It’s good to know Hamster takes such good medical care of you Tracy R.

On the home front we took Beans for her second antibiotic injection yesterday and I’m very glad to report that after weighing her the vet said that she gained 1/2 a pound in the last 2 weeks a very good sign that she’s doing better!

I don’t know if it’s because it’s a lot cooler this morning (10c/50f) but my other 15 year old cat Minnie had the proper zoomies this morning. She was running full speed all over the house to finally end up perched on the windowsill of my bedroom, she is now sleeping on my bed which is more her usual speed LOL!

I hope everyone is as happy and healthy as they can be, have a good weekend everyone!

Good news G! Hope Beans continues to be “full of beans”!

      Zoomies and weight gain,

      You’re having a good weekend.

Hamster had the right idea! Hope the ankle is better now, Tracy.

Cats loving on feet–omg the stories I can tell. My feet are supremely ticklish, so whiskery love can really set them off. Someday, a loving cat will get kicked, and it won’t be my fault. Just a knee jerk reaction to the tickles. I’ve also had kitties who loved to catch “bed mice” (my feet moving around under the covers) and nearly bit off toes once they succeeded in catching one.

Georgiana, good news about both your kitties! Zoomies at 15 are very special.

It’s the first Father’s Day without my dad tomorrow. Last year, I was actually there for the holiday (and my nephew’s graduation party). Dad hadn’t yet decided to go into the hospice program, but I think we all knew it was going to be our last in-person time together.

Hugs to you, DebG. It’s the first without mine, too.

Heading into Seattle today for a soccer game, then back home to pick up hubby and back into Seattle for a concert (doing both would be too much walking for him). Should be interesting, traffic-wise- soccer game, baseball game, several community activities… oh and one of the major freeways into the Seattle area will be closed, too. Wish me luck! (I’m taking light rail in for the soccer game but driving for the concert, since I’ll be photographing the band and don’t want to take $5000+ worth of camera gear on public transit.)

        Hugs to you and Deb.

      • Debg June 18, 2022 / 12:04 pm

Hugs right back at you! And enjoy your photo sessions.

      • Dulcie June 18, 2022 / 12:32 pm

Yes hugs to SS and DebG. But they are still with you in many ways right? I know it’s not the same but sometimes all the good memories help me through for both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. 💕

      My first year too DEBG.

It hurts but looking back it was such a painful downward spiral, that I’m beginning to remember the man who raised and loved me. Not the fumbling, stumbling man child who struggled with so many simple things but still always ended a conversation with “I love ya.”

Deleted his and my mother’s addresses on Amazon last night and cried.

      Digital hugs to you.

Can’t seem to wake up this morning.
Duckie had her version of the zoomies last night for the first time. She usually flies around the room in clockwise circles, but last night she went in both directions. Then she went back to her cage and made random comments on the murder mystery we were watching.
    Have a great weekend, everyone.

Those dogs must live with at least one cat, who taught them how to prank. Excellent prankage, puppies!

    • 6rabbits June 18, 2022 / 1:56 pm

There are a couple dog pranking vids on Pinterest—this is one of them—and I was going to try and post them, but…can’t find them. Weirdly, all the dog pranking vids I’ve seen in some way involve staircases!

        Here it is!👍🏼

        • Debg June 18, 2022 / 9:50 pm

The third one! She knew it was coming! What a smart goggie!

      OMG a plotted pounce!

I love the little pom-pom tail.
