This just in from Tina K.: It’s Sandi the Wombat, an anything-but-sleepy attention junkie at Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary in Australia. Trying to get some yard work done? Fat chance of that as long as this roly-poly fuzzball is on the loose.

That explains where the morning coffee disappeared to so fast.
I think he needs to lay off the sugary breakfast cereal, and maybe that second donut.
Yikes!
Wombat zoomies!
What a fired up ball of love! 🙂 I think Sandi liked her hiney scritched! 🙂
I wonder if the little rascal had anything to do with the state of the knees of lady’s jeans!
Not only is this wombat awesome, the entire FB for this sanctuary is hilarious and heartwarming.
Waaah! I cannot see the video! Need my wombat fix!!
Now I know where I need to send my resume….
Ok, got it to play on my phone. I’m with Amy–I have GOT to get a job there!
Gardening and yard work would be infinitely more fun with a wombat in charge. I want to go to there.
Wowzers! Whata weally weally wacky wombat!
Someone knows what they want AND how to get it. Hey you! Rub my butt with your shoe already!! Again. Do it again.
Such an alive and insistent being.
Hi Mike, squirrel page not loading.
Sorry, Faye. I published that page too soon, so I deleted it. Will republish tomorrow when it’s written.
We await your forthcoming awesomeness!!
After seeing that fuzz ball I had to learn more about wombats on Wikipedia. So am I to assume that with a “backwards’facing pouch” wombats never stand on their hind legs??? (Seems like an upside-down pouch to me.) But yes, filling your pouch with dirt would be uncivilized.
“Wombats dig extensive burrow systems with their rodent-like front teeth and powerful claws. One distinctive adaptation of wombats is their backwards pouch. The advantage of a backwards-facing pouch is that when digging, the wombat does not gather soil in its pouch over its young.”
The sanctuary info says wombats can close their pouch. Go to the site and see all the photos!
They have ziploc pouches???? Will Australian animals never cease to amaze!
How did CO miss this place? Awesome facebook page with many vids, pics and stories! Just spent a half hour there–had to tear myself away and go to bed!
…not to mention an “I Brake for Wombats” bumper sticker!
Next in line for the I Brake For Wombats bumper sticker!
I was a foreign exchange student Down Under in college…this reminds me of a commercial where they had an unsuspecting guy sitting on a comfy chair drinking whatever the product was. With the Jaws music playing, the camera starts tracking a shark fin moving toward the poor schlub in the chair. Getting closer…and closer…until it rams the guy’s feet. He jumps, looks down to see a wombat in a shark fin licking his toes. Then he shrugs and goes back to his tasty drink. I THINK it was a flavoured milk (chocolate, strawberry, banana, etc…very popular down under…at least it was when I was there 20+ years ago.).
I just spent 10 minutes trying to find an archive of that commercial on line! By any chance do you recall the product name? I would LOVE to see that. Wombats Rock!
I wish I could…but it was 1993. I’ve gone looking for it before too…*sigh*
Wombat rolling is his version of “HEY!”
That’s a great video!
