Kitty looks supremely unimpressed. That’s bunny-level disapproval, right there!

I don’t think mine would wait for it to stop spinning..

The late Mazzilli whapped a burning candle out of the menorah one year. Fortunately the only actual damage done was as a small charred mark on my laminate counter-top, though the smell of singed fur lingered for quite a while—and I think I forgot how to breathe for a moment.

As I recall, the miracle did not last a full eight days that year.

?Ricky’s Mom, you are funny. How is your little doggie doing?

Murray C., Ricky has been doing well overall. Our recent vet visit went well, and the bloodwork came back normal. All things considered, he’s doing pretty well for a nearly-15-year-old. Thanks for asking!

So, what does it mean that my shamus broke off in the menorah as I was lighting it? I put the lit remainder in the highest holder I had left, and am hoping for the best …

I wish I could help but Seamus is an Irish name from this end – don’t know nothin’ ’bout no Shamuses! (I’m embarrassed to say!)

It’s a Shamash! Used to light all the other candles of the Menorah.

Ooo, sorry. And me who has been adopted into a Jewish family (in a casual way, mind you – dear friends with whom I’ve spent many happy hours consider me family)

The shamus/shammes/shamash is the servant (attendant) candle. All transliterations are approximate, of course, since it’s a Hebrew word: שמש

I wonder if this is how my friends’ cats will react when I teach my friends the driedel game. But I won’t tie any yarmulkes to their heads. Neither the cats, nor my friends.

There would be a race in my house as to which cat would swat the dreidel first and I wouldn’t dare light menorah.

Last time we had a power outage I had to put the candles inside 2 big glass flower vases because the cats kept going near them and one of them burned his whiskers!
