The fairy penguin, also known as the little blue penguin, is the smallest species of penguin in the world. Found in Australia and New Zealand, they grow to an average of only 13 inches tall. They are best known for turning Pinocchio into a real boy.

That is one adorable pudgy li’l penguin – I can certainly picture him with a magic wand! HE turned me into a real mush ball.
Do we have to clap to keep him alive?
I believe in fairies ????
During nesting season, these little guys walk inland to their nests to deliver food to the chicks. In one place, to keep them from crossing a busy road an underpass was built, seen in the video with this Smithsonian article:

Thanks, DB!
The little tail shakes are so cute!
Penguin underpasses and the people who design them make the world better – this is awesome.
It really seems like it’d be one of those “I never expected to be doing this” things. Kinda like cleaning baby poop off the ceiling.
OH, I thought maybe I’d made the headlines!! Back in the day of the CB radio (Citizen’s Band), the Blue Fairy was my handle. I should have changed it as some people thought I was saying ‘Blue BERRY’!! YUP, those were the good ole’ days.
10-4 good buddy
I often wonder how they get the first penguin (or turtle, or whatever other species tunnels like this have been built for) to go through it. Food? Does someone at the other end make sounds like the animal?
Me, too!
I wonder things like:
Did they block the area around the tunnel to make it the easiest path to the babies?
How do they prevent “bad critters” like poisonous snakes/insects from going inside?
Is the tunnel lit? It seems so dark and long.
How do they keep it clear of obstructions/poop build-up?
Lots of questions….
I think this calls for a field trip!
I’m in!
