From a preemie in danger to a social media superstar, the story of Fiona gives us all hope, and reminds us at this critical time in history that the most vulnerable need the most love and care. Enjoy this look back on her amazing journey, put together by the Cincinnati Zoo.
My .. my .. how our little one has grown in a few short months
So big and strong! Bibi and Henry look very proud.
Floods of tears seeing how vulnerable she was at first – what an amazing transformation in our little girl. Well said, Mike, how the most vulnerable need the most love and care.
My thoughts exactly, Murray C.!
And, yes, it’s been wonderful to follow Fiona on her journey as she grows big and strong!
It’s incredible how tiny she was, altho she still seem so small when compared to mom Bibi and dad Henry.
Baby hippo kronsche gets me every time.
I know! The leg-kronsche and underwater roll NEVER gets old…
Right up there with “Baby Beluga”.
Caught myself singing along by the end of the song.
She even looks like a little girl, and she KNOWS she’s cute!
So did I! “Fiona, Fiona, little hippo, you’re gonna, get bigger and stronger every day….” I’m not surprised, of course, that we have The Ballad of Fiona the Hippo; she’s such a wonderful little creature and such a marvelous example of what good zoo care can mean for a vulnerable baby that I suspect she’ll have more songs written about her as she grows up!
“She’s just a little grey hippo on the go.”
Lot of favorite moments but love when you see her adoring public, men scrambling for the best shot of our liltle girl.
Sniff. That is all.
how can they keep their mouths open underwater and not drown?
Happy 0.5 birthday sweet-pea. You have been a delight and a joy.
I’m gonna be singing this all night. 🙂
I haven’t heard such a great critter-song since the Axlotl Song.
I must have tuned in around the time Miss F first entered her wading pool, because I don’t remember her first few weeks. Wow, she’s grown.
Yeah, I don’t think I really started following until around when she was learning to use the ramp.
I’m crying happy tears as I watch this. What a perfect song for such a perfect baby hippo. It has been amazing to watch all that’s been done to give her every chance to become a perfect example of a hippo. I was so happy to see that both Bibi and Henry have accepted their daughter into the family again. It could have turned out just the opposite. The staff is to be commended for such dedication to this little being. I’m sure they’re very happy to have been instrumental in how Fiona has blossomed and grown. It shows that love and caring can do wonders to help our animal friends survive and flourish.
Wow! That song is amazing! Such an educational recap of Fiona’s 6 months–tho it doesn’t seem she’s been around that long. Had somehow missed the underwater rolls footage–too adorable! Just a wonderful story, and kudos to the zoo team!
WHY is there no hippo emoji?
