Longtime readers may remember Merlin, from reader Birdcage. Well, Merlin insisted on making a return appearance! “Merlin really wanted to be ‘on’ Cutetropolis this morning so I made it happen for him,” says Birdcage. “This is a pretty typical iPad accessory at Casa Birdcage.”
What a gorgeous velvet bird!
The beak reminds me of a perfectly ripe peach.
What a handsome guy. Only nature can create that vivid a green.
I was just thinking of Birdcage and Merlin yesterday when I happened on this little birdie living out a fantasy I think a lot of us have had. LOL!
O.O
Gigi, I get a message that the photo is no longer available. Is there a link you can send us???
Does this work?
Just imagining the results after he decided to fly off…
IF he could fly! That’s awful! I wonder if chocolate is as bad for birds as it is for cats, dogs and bunnies!
A quick google suggests that it is bad for birds as well; hope he just showered and didn’t drink it!
chocolate is indeed also v bad for birds, but this is actually a still from a movie that used special effects, and didn’t involve a real birb.
Glad to hear that!
I am relieved – and I can’t help giggling at your post ‘ a real birb” – reminds me of the Woody Allen movie where he, as a potential robber, gives the bank teller a note that says “I have a gub”
yep, that works! I think I’ll use it for my lesson on addiction!
I agree! A handsome bird you’ve got there, Birdcage! What kind is he? (I worked in two pet stores that sold parrots for exhorbitant prices when I was in college. My first guess is Senegal…)
Merlin is such a beautiful beard Birdcage. 🙂
Bird, not beard!!! whoops! 😀
Such a handsome bird! Love the green with the red darts. So good of him to supervise your ipad use! Does he recognize himself when he sees pictures of himself on the screen, btw?
My goodness, Merlin is gorgeous!
Merlin is a beautiful bird with his vivid coloring and he does make a nice ipad accessory. How come I don’t see that offered at the Apple store?
That’s my boy! He’s a male red-sided eclectus parrot (about twice the size of a typical Senegal). He’s handsome and he knows it. He’ll be thrilled to see himself on this awesome website as soon as I get around to showing him (I’m too busy chopping vegetables for his dinner right now). Thank you for posting him, Mike! And thank you, Cutetropians, for your kind comments.
He is an amazingly gorgeous bird! I do hope his claws don’t damage the screen of your tablet, though.
No worries on that front! His grip on the screen is not that tight. The tips of his talons are rounded with a dremel so they aren’t as sharp as they might look. And the keratin in his nails is no where near as strong as the retina display on the ipad. And when he can’t “dig in” with his nails, he tends to grip more with the soft part of his foot, and he twists the nail tip a bit to the side. Believe me – he doesn’t even scratch the screen (likewise doesn’t scratch my hand when he’s using me as his perch). His only reaction to an ipad perch is that the screen is too narrow and he’d prefer something thicker and rounder to wrap his foot around (his foot mechanics are really built to wrap around a tree branch).
A couple years ago I saw a guy and his son at the park with three birds – a green Amazon parrot, who whistled at me before saying hello, and a Sun Conure, who ignored me, both of whom were riding on a stick the guy was holding; and a Cockatoo who was riding on the son’s hand. They let me hold the Cockatoo, who promptly ran up my arm and across the back of my neck. I was surprised at how soft his feet were. 🙂
He’s on Cutetropolis, on Cutetropolis!
