The Tale of Apari

Resident wombatologist Murray C. brings us a story of tragedy, triumph, and loving care. Although we Cutetropolitans find wombats adorable, they are disliked by Australia’s farmers and hit by careless drivers — often with babies still in the pouch.

Such was the case with Tinsel, who survived a collision that killed her mother. She was taken to the Duisburg Zoo in Germany, where she had a miracle baby of her own: little Apari, who was conceived just before her father, an older wombat, passed away.

Alas, years of hand-raising left Tinsel unprepared to be a mom, and after only nine months, Apari had to leave the pouch and be cared for by the zoo staff. But thanks to them, he is healthy, thriving and loved by all.

Okay, I can’t watch videos right now, but I would just like to know how one becomes a wombatologist. Is there a school of wombatology in the tri-state area? Do they offer night classes? Online classes?

These videos are beautifully done. The wombats are so vivid (and adorable).

I’m in love with Apari. He may be the cutest wombat I’ve ever seen. And he gets the zoomies!
