“Free-ends, we are gathered at the river today to cleanse sister Eunice Burbles of her earthly sin and welcome her into the First Baptist Church of the Holy Abalone…”
Sender-inner Susan H. writes: “I was at the High Desert Museum near Bend, Oregon, and they have three river otters that love to wrestle with each other. These guys were just hilarious, and I must have taken a hundred pictures of them.”
I dunno, he kinda looks like a vampotter goin’ for the neck bite…
I kinda got a “vampotter” vibe, too. Though I’m glad Mike didn’t go with a Twilight theme. 😛
Yeah, also getting a menacing Godfather (Godotter?) “today I settled all family business” vibe.
I’m jealous of Susan. I want to otters wrestling and playing. Plus any religious ceremonies they’re willing to let me observe. ^___^
Right there with you. Love playful otters.
This is otterly ridiculous and otterly cute. I can even hear the choir singing in the background “Down in the River to Pray”.
AJ, now I want to watch “O Brother Where Art Thou?” But I can’t ‘cos I’ve got to finish grading exams tonight. Maybe this weekend!!
“We thought you was a toad”
“Blooey,”
“nothing left.”
“Just a greasespot on the L&N.”
“He’s bonafide”
Yeah!!! I wondered how many would get the reference to the movie. But then again we’re all such a bunch of geeks/nerds here (I’ve found my people!), I shouldn’t have been too surprised.
And, my favorite quote: “Do NOT seek the treasure”.
Not only is it a great movie and endlessly quotable but the music! The music!
I love that movie so much. One of the times I taught my ancient Greece history course, we watched it for the Odyssey references. The kids loved it too.
That movie is sooooo underrated. That and Hail Caesar!
Another underrated movie is Oscar with Stallone. Wait, don’t dismss it just yet because of Stallone being in it. It is hysterical!! It’s all about a gangster trying to go straight because of a promise he made to his father on his deathbed. And various hi-jinks ensue. Check it out! The only other thing I’ll say is keep your eye on the black bag.
I think my favorite reference is the homage to the Wizard of Oz at the KKK rally.
Amen!
I completely forgot I had sent this in last summer. I saw the picture and thought, “Hey, that looks just like a photo I took!” 😛
The first time I went by their enclosure they were all inside sleeping. I had to go back a couple of times, but I was finally rewarded with getting to see them outside playing for about 30 minutes.
And if you get a chance to visit the High Desert Museum, do eeet! It’s pretty amazing. Although when I was there last May, they had just completed a prescribed burn in an area near the museum. *Cough*
