A big beautiful bunny gets a tiny boyfriend
Some bunnies have lop ears, but this hoppy couple are lop… sided. That’s because Lilly Sunshine is a 16-pound Flemish Giant rabbit, and her boyfriend Romeo is a four-pound featherweight.
Lilly already had a great life with loving humans when they decided to get Lilly a “husbun.” (The family dog was a good friend, but it wasn’t the same.)
Like all new bunny couples, there was some awkwardness as Lilly and Romeo sized each other up, but after a few successful dinner dates…
They were snuggled together as husbun and wife!
(an early Valentine’s Day story via The Dodo)
She’s not a cheap date, apparently.
And I’m sure they will find a way.
I love how on their dinner date she quickly finished almost all the leaves, sniffed the one leaf he was nibbling on , and left it to him. And lying stretched out and relaxed next to each other – so sweet. I would think making baby bunnehs would be something of a challenge.
This proves love comes in all sizes — too precious. This bun- omance can come to my house . I love how they’re laying the same way, on the tile floor. That poor leetle husbun barely ate half of his little leaf during the time Lilly ate hers. I was glad she didn’t take his leaf.
Yes, I’m glad she didn’t swipe his leaf. Very sweet!
Knowing nothing about bunnies I have to ask… 1) could Romeo and Lilly actually reproduce and 2) would it be a good idea? Inquiring minds want to know!
If big and little dogs can, I’ll presume bunnehs can but I think between these two, probably not a good idea. At least, Romeo is the small one and can’t crush Lilly. And considering the mating can be a little rough, I hope they’re both fixed. Healthier for all.
Love will find a way. ?
Wow, now that’s a mismatched but very cute couple and yes the mechanics of making babies is a head scratcher.
Totally OT, I got word yesterday that my youngest niece (all of 19!) has made me a great aunt for the ninth time. Didn’t even know she was pregnant, her dad said she didn’t want to tell anyone until it happened. Surprise!! So it’s a little boy, he came a month early but in the pictures he looks healthy just smaller.
Congratulations from one Great Aunt to other! I hope you can get your hands on that little boy soon so you can snuggling to stuffing out of him.
Congrats, AJ! Best wishes to your family.
Love has no bundaries.
Romeo: ? “Iiiiiiiiiii like big buns and I cannot lie. You other bunnies can’t deny……” ?
That song works even better bunneh style!
Dana, thanks for the earworm :).
I’m getting obsessed with giant buns myself. When my older kitties leave me, maybe I’ll have to add a Flemish Giant to the mix. One of those bad boys could keep even rascal Scorpius in line.
Threadjack warning: I just found something amazing.

Two of my favorite things, the wombat and the Pre-Raphaelites!
It was indeed something amazing, thanks for posting it.
The fennec fox drawing is so beautiful.
O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name.
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love
And I’ll no longer be a Capulettuce.
ROFL at “Capulettuce”. Nicely done 🙂
Thanks for the wombats, DEBG!!! I hope something brightens your day like that brightened mine! (No, autocorrect, not combats!)
The little bun is the size of the big buns head! ? I’m asuming the male would be fixed when old enough, even though I doubt their ability to copulate! So sweet stretched out together! ?
Aww, I love the side by side view to note the size difference. Very impressed with how big those Flemish giants really are. What a sweet girl to not take the leaf from the mini-husbun.
They’re like Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sprat.
“He’s young, but he’s daily growing” comes to mind. We have friends, a couple, the fellow is about 5’2″, had been a coxswain in rowing boats, and she’s 6’4″, a two time Olympic champion rowing for East Germany. It always amazed me since I’m tall and had trouble dating shorter fellows because it made me feel massively huge.
There was a couple at my college and she was a good several inches taller than him (he was probably around my height of 5’4″). He was in my class and she was a year younger. They got engaged in the spring of my senior year (he was in the college a capella group and he proposed during their spring concert; it was adorable). I saw them at the five-year reunion and they had a son who looked to be a little under a year old. He was sitting on dad’s shoulders and could look mom in the eye.
One of my college roommates is 6′ tall. Her husband is 6’3″. I’m curious to see how tall their kids will end up.
