What cute kitties, loving their names!!! Want both the cats AND the cat tree.

Got a semi-busy weekend. Have to take our vehicle in for service then seeing a movie sometime today, then tomorrow we’re going to visit our friend who’s been dealing with cancer and heart issues. Since me and hubby were sick the last few months, we didn’t want to go see him and bring our germs to him. And in between all that have the usual cleaning, laundry, errands to deal with.

We had a really fun potluck at work yesterday to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The theme was red food, and ended up with some really good stuff. There was chili, enchiladas, pasta, lots of tomato type salads and of course chocolate for dessert. It was so yummy and just nice to relax at lunch for a change.

Almost forgot, the landlord/owner finally have agreed to fix the roof. Plus had a company that came and tarped the heck out of the roof so, so far it’s been dry in the house. Which is good considering the storms we had early this week and it’s supposed to rain most of next week. Can’t wait to get this done.

    Happy weekend everyone!

    • dubravkamcvmd February 16, 2019 / 8:46 am

Congrats on getting your roof fixed. What a relief!

    • Murray C February 16, 2019 / 11:28 am

I used to host a Red Party – an all female party for Valentine’s Day where everyone had wear red and bring red food. What a blast – and challenge! – it was. Nothing like a plate of lasagna next to coleslaw made with red cabbage.

I love those pussycats! And I so want to bury my face in that fluffy belly! Maybe Loki’s tired enough not to mind???

      • Metz February 17, 2019 / 6:35 am

Loki is one of the most mellow kitties I have ever had, I don’t think he’d mind a belleh snorgle at all 🙂

    • debg February 16, 2019 / 12:47 pm

What a relief about the roof! I’m so glad that’s back on track. Your Valentine’s Day lunch sounds lovely.

  2. Phred’s Mom February 16, 2019 / 9:43 am

AJ, hooray for the roof! Let’s hope they follow through on promise to actually
fix the issue. Beautiful clear day here in SE Pennsyltucky, as my dear partner
calls it. He’s from North Joisey near NYC, so everywhere else in the U S of A
is considered low-rent. Not much going on today, but then, that’s the norm
these days. I will try to clean the upstairs bathroom. With a sensitive spine,
this may take some time, but I do begin to feel like a normal person again
when getting this sort of thing done. I use long-handled tools so little
bending needed. Away I go! ?‍♀️

    • Dulcie February 16, 2019 / 11:49 am

Chlorox makes a battery operated wand for scrubbing. It has 3 types of scrubbies to choose from and a long reach.

      • debg February 16, 2019 / 12:48 pm

You can also get assorted brushes that fit into a power drill. But a long-handled thingy to hold and operate the drill probably isn’t wise! I’ll try my brushes out on the bathtub before I refinish it.

  3. Metz February 16, 2019 / 10:37 am

My boys! They love this tree so much! It has been the source of many hours of amusement for them and for us!

    • debg February 16, 2019 / 12:49 pm

Metz, your boys are lovely. They look so much like my Fred and George Weasleycat.

    • Lucy's Mom February 16, 2019 / 1:37 pm

How cool! When I die, I want to come back as one of your kitties. 🙂

    • fkaWaldenPond February 16, 2019 / 4:53 pm

Your orangie’s are handsome Metz! 🙂

    • Metz February 17, 2019 / 6:34 am

This isn’t the exact model of the tower we have but it’s very close. I had gotten lucky and received a gift card for Amazon and when we bought it, the tower was only $100 so we ended up only spending about $20 on it. But it has been well worth it. It’s mounted directly on the wall, but also comes with hardware that you can use to hang it over the top of the war. The canvas material and the mesh in between are both very good quality and are holding up well to claws and climbing, it’s also easy to take off sections and wash if there’s an unfortunate regurgitation. That feature alone makes it a big bonus to me when you compare it to standard carpet covered cat trees.

Happy Caturday to these adorable kitties!

Yesterday was my friend’s sister’s 40th birthday (somehow she got older than me 😉 ; how does that happen?!) and she threw a party at a restaurant (a ‘no gifts, just pay for your dinner’ sort of thing). This afternoon I’m going to see The Upside with my mom and then get dinner. I owe her from uh, Mother’s Day, I think it was.

Anyone know where I can get one of these for my tablet?

    • Murray C February 16, 2019 / 11:29 am

      How priceless!

    • dubravkamcvmd February 16, 2019 / 2:47 pm

I love the dog and the little boy’s matter-of-factness about it.

      • allein ? February 16, 2019 / 3:05 pm

One of the comments on the youtube page:

        My naem is Dawg
        I haz some claws
        My boy can use
        To make his drawz
        If I am good
        I will get treetz
        For being payshunt
        With my feets

        • Nancy February 16, 2019 / 6:10 pm

          ??????Wild applause??????

          • ^oo^ February 16, 2019 / 10:54 pm

            Terrific!

        • debg February 17, 2019 / 10:12 am

That’s fantastic. I like the dog’s look of loving resignation.

    • Kar February 16, 2019 / 4:24 pm

Love the dog’s, “this is my life now” expression.

  5. allein ? February 16, 2019 / 11:12 am

Oh, I almost forgot. Baby MayaPolarBear!

  6. Murray C February 16, 2019 / 11:33 am

Wow, floof to the 10th. And a mini horse and beagle pup thrown in for good measure.

    • debg February 16, 2019 / 12:54 pm

That just about killed me. These baby compilations are the best! What a flufferbutt Maya is, and very generous with her kisses.

  7. allein ? February 16, 2019 / 12:55 pm

Just ordered tickets for the Vikings exhibit at the Franklin Institute for next Saturday. 🙂

    • Phred’s Mom February 16, 2019 / 7:12 pm

Let us know next week all about it. I wish I could
go, but the bod ain’t up to it yet. The Franklin Institute
is one of my faves. Love the heart.

      • allein ? February 16, 2019 / 10:12 pm

We went through the heart last time we were there a few years ago. Also looking forward to replacing my beaker mug I got then (well, I still have it but it has a crack down the side so I can’t use it).

        • Phred’s Mom February 17, 2019 / 8:24 am

Use it for pens, etc. on your desk, or makeup brushes.
When something like that has sentimental value. I
          keep it.

  8. debg February 16, 2019 / 12:57 pm

Happy Caturday to all my Palentines!

I’ve just finished this morning’s construction session in the bathroom, making decisions about the direction of the tiles, etc. Now I’m taking a break before I dive into a freelance writing assignment. Once the Amazon delivery gets here, I’ll make a batch of macarons (cinnamon with dulce de leche filling). Tomorrow I get to meet my friend’s new goldie, whom she’s had for a week and already loves to pieces. Since this is the friend who recently put down her elderly kitty, it’s great to see her so happy with a new anipal. One of her cats absolutely loves dogs, so has also been really happy. The other cat, not so much!

George Weasleycat is talking to me, so I’d better see what he wants. Have a wonderful, warm, safe, not-raining-inside-the-house sort of weekend.

  9. Duckie ? February 16, 2019 / 12:59 pm

Freaking bad week, involving snow, freezing rain, eighteen hour work days for hubby, a priest and anointing of the sick for me, and having to send love bird boarder elsewhere. Moving on.
I’m with Murray on burying my face in that belly of floof. We should start up clinics where, for a modest fee, you can snorgle, huff or get beaten up by the animal of your choice. Random clinics can offer sloths, wombats or baby elephants. Reservations required for hippo huggers.
Allein, I hope that kid allows the dog to switch legs, or he’s gonna be awful lopsided.
Today, when hubby gets home from work, he is going to put his jammies back on and we are going to spend the rest of the day doing nothing. I might get spaghetti sauce going in the crock pot but that’s it. We need a quiet afternoon.
This coming week, I am going to try to vacuum a room a day. I feel so pathetic, but I honestly can’t do more. I have my lung function test on Friday, and I am NOT looking forward to it. Arts and crafts projects are proceeding slowly. At least I can sew sitting down.
    Have a good week, everyone.

    • Phred’s Mom February 16, 2019 / 7:16 pm

Oh, Duckie, I can sympathize. I got the bathroom clean, floor
and all, but had to lie down when I was done. I’m with you
on targeting one small job like vacuuming one room a day.
That’s as much as we can reasonably handle. But it does
      feel good when we’re done.

    • debg February 17, 2019 / 10:13 am

Duckie, so sorry about the bad week and all its attendant unpleasantness. Sending you big hugs.

  10. N. Fritz February 16, 2019 / 2:43 pm

Thinking of you all this weekend, because I finally have the leisure to do so! I have Semester Break until February 24. I am so thankful to have nothing to do (dolce far niente!)…. except for looking for a new job that doesn’t suck the life blood out of me, and doing my 2017 taxes, and preparing something for the next semester. My work is never done! But today I drove to Vienna, went shopping (including my favorite art supply store), had a dear friend over for tea, and made two new recipes (Orange Mascarpone Scones for tea and Creamy Cajun Linguine for dinner). All that’s left is the 47th consecutive day of yoga this year. Happy weekend, Cutetropolitans one and all!

    • debg February 17, 2019 / 10:15 am

N Fritz, you’ll find the right job and you’ll get to redefine yourself. It’s tough and scary to make those decisions, but it’s necessary. Life blood is kinda important.

      • N. Fritz February 18, 2019 / 4:33 am

Thanks for your encouragement, DebG! I’ve already got the taxes ready to print out. Tomorrow I’ll have a go at the Board of Education. Trouble is, I’ve had to reinvented myself about 7 times in the past 13 years, usually reacting to something traumatic: divorce and other relationship disasters, lost jobs/bad jobs etc. I have never gotten to enjoy the stability that should come with one’s mid-50s.

        • dubravkamcvmd February 18, 2019 / 7:53 am

Stability can be deadening.Maybe your other jobs before this one were dull and plodding, but this one, aside from the TOO MUCH WORK aspect, which admittedly is bad, sounds really interesting. It sounds great to me to live and work in Austria.

  11. SoccerSue February 16, 2019 / 3:55 pm

    Odin and Loki are beautiful!

We took our house panther to the vet yesterday for her annual exam (which of course involves loud yowling for the entire 30 minute trip. I always joke that next time there will be sedatives involved…and I might even give some to the cat, yuk yuk). Got the blood work back today and all is good. She has a very small cateract in each eye, which the vet wasn’t overly concerned about. Basically, they proclaimed her to be doing “really well for a 13 1/2 year old kitteh.”

The hospital my office is affiliated with had a “heart healthy” lunch for Valentine’s Day (blackened salmon, quinoa pilaf, garlic spinach and kale, and “spa water” for just over $6.00) so one of our PAs and I went over there to partake.

Now that most of our 13 inches of snow has melted, we took the opportunity this morning to go to some outlet-type grocery stores that we don’t get to very often, so we’re well-stocked again, food wise. We’ll complete the shopping tomorrow with a trip to Trader Joe’s (which I love but don’t get too often, between the prices and the distance from home).

My mom is holding steady and will have a PET scan next week and an appt with her oncologist to figure out where to go from here. The doctor was going to speak to a surgeon to see if there are any surgical options to keep her from getting the periodic partial blockages in her intestines.

Have a great 3 day weekend (for those who have Monday off), Cutetropolitans!

  12. Alice Shortcake February 16, 2019 / 5:43 pm

Some of you may remember that last weekend I was a bit peeved about having to miss a theatre trip to London after finding out that the last train back to York left earlier than I thought, and an overnight stay was out of the question because my father doesn’t like being alone in the house at night. Well, the trip is back on – my cousin has offered to stay the night and I managed to book the last single room at a budget hotel near King’s Cross station!

    • Phred’s Mom February 16, 2019 / 7:22 pm

Good for you! The train trip back to York would be
kind of long, no? Good that you have a room.
What is the show? Tell us all about it next week.

      • Alice Shortcake February 17, 2019 / 5:35 am

It’s not until 2nd March – Philip Glass’ opera ‘Akhnaten’ at the London Coliseum. I was a regular visitor to this theatre back in the 80s when it was an imposing but rather run-down relic of the Edwardian era, but it has since been restored to its former glory.

        • Phred’s Mom February 17, 2019 / 8:28 am

What a wonderful thing to see(and hear).
Not only the opera itself, but the subject.
Egyptian history is one of my two biggies
along with the Tudors. I wish I were there
          with you. Enjoy!

    • debg February 17, 2019 / 10:17 am

      Hurrah!

You’re bringing back lovely memories of traveling England by train and by coach. European surface travel is so much more civilized than in the US.

      • Phred’s Mom February 17, 2019 / 12:45 pm

        Ain’t that the truth!

  13. murkle46 February 16, 2019 / 8:21 pm

  14. Metz February 16, 2019 / 10:55 pm

This made my day guys. Seriously. I’ve been going through an extensive testing and interviewing process for a job and really thought I had it nailed, but got a letter from them that they are not going to hire me. It was a major blow to the ego for sure. But I’m trying to stay positive about things as not getting the job (which would have meant 12 hr swing shift scheduling for nearly a year through the training process) means that I have the time free to continue my foray into the acting world at the ripe ol’ age of 48! Just before I had started the interviewing and testing I’d joined an acting class hosted by the local community theater and that turned into me starting to write skits and being asked to be a part of the improv group they were starting, AND I’m going to be auditioning for a part in a play this week. So yeah. And of course leaving extra time for snuggling and enjoying the kitties who have been glued to Cat TV outside our dining room window where I’d scattered bird seed for the poor freezing birds from that great polar storm that struck Michigan a week ago.

    • Phred’s Mom February 17, 2019 / 8:31 am

Their loss for not hiring you, but now
      you are following your dream.

    • debg February 17, 2019 / 10:19 am

Metz, I’ve been not-hired for tons of jobs that I thought were all sewn up, and it’s never fun. But there are all kinds of things happening at *their* end that we never realize. It’s them, not you.

Despite the blow, you’re turning lemons into lemonade. Have fun with all your theater stuff.

  15. Murray C February 16, 2019 / 11:18 pm

Wow, there’s so much going on I hardly know where to start – Duckie! Anointing of the sick? That is heavy duty and I will send positive thoughts as you go through your lung test. Phred’s Mom – well, what can I say but keep on keepin’ on – I applaud you for any attempt you make to just do the normal everyday things . Allein! You’ll be within 10 miles of where I live! I have sung at the Franklin Institute – many years ago as part of a program/conference for Airport workers – I sang songs of early flight underneath a Wilbur and Orville plane. One of my favorite gigs of all time.

Alice, glad your trip is back on, Soccer Sue, hope Mom stays on a good track, Metz, how cool to be taking up acting. I have a friend from the DC area and she’s begun taking acting lessons and she’s in her 60’s. I love talking to her about it because I’m a frustrated actor myself but have no brain for remembering lines anymore. Songs, yes, lines without rhyme, no. Never too late to try.

I know there’s more news but I’ve gone on long enough. Pretty much a chores sort of week end for me and dinner at a friend’s house tomorrow – hoping some singing happens. I just love it here! Thanks, Mike.

    • Alice Shortcake February 17, 2019 / 5:25 pm

I couldn’t bring myself to cut that cake!

      • Murray C February 17, 2019 / 10:42 pm

Not so sure there’s much cake to cut – Mostly fondant and armature!
