I recently got a video from reader Omegaplusone that dramatizes every pet owner’s worst fear: You bring home a fancy toy that you’re sure will be a big hit, and… nothing. “I tried to get a pup I dog-sit for to understand the treat dispensing toy. This was the result.”
That is every dog I’ve ever had. Even when I show them how it works, they want nothing to do with it. They prefer getting treats the lazy way, hand fed by yours truly. Vonnie must be like mine, why work for something when if I just look pitiful and flutter my big brown puppy dog eyes, I’ll get the goodies anyway.
Aww, poor confuzzled puplet. I must say, though, that as a pet owner, wasting a few bucks on a toy the pet rejects is very, very far from my worst fear. More like par for the course.
I empathize. I have a lot of trouble operating physical objects too.
Such sad little whimpers! Hand him a treat already! (Yeah, I’m a sucker.)
She got treats for “sit”, “down”, and “shake” instead of from the toy. She’s basically a book-smart dog; teach her something and she learns, make her figure it out on her own, and she cries. My chi is the opposite; dumb as a post at tricks but ooooh boy can he ever get the treats out of the toy! So cute how dogs have intellectual strengths and areas for improvement, just like human students!
Growing up, one dog would nose the treat ball around all day. The other would pick it up and fling it into walls.
Turns out dogs are individuals, lol.
Work smarter, not harder. LOL!
OMG!!! I HAVE WASTED SO MUCH MONEY ON DOG TOYS!!! AAAGGH!!
I’m confused and frustrated too Vonnie, all good.
