For those of us who still recognize the concept of “the weekend,” welcome to it, and another open thread. Greeting us today is our humble host’s very own Teddy, demonstrating his technique for disrupting work and reminding me to cuddle with him.

Teddy is
the most interesting
cat in the world
What a handsome fellow! How nice to wake up to him!
I love how pets give us that “pay attention to me” position/look/activity/naughtyness!
He can come interrupt my work anytime.
Pets sure do have their way of letting us know when they want attention, however inconvenient it may be for us. I presume Mike, you dropped everything (as a well trained pet owner) and gave into Teddy’s cute needy look. Meanwhile, Ani is figuring out her way to get attention, food, or freedom.
That stare! They all know how to stare right at you until you get it.
Happy Caturday, Teddy! Glad you could join us!
Rainy and gray here in New Jersey. Goes well with my mood.
Here’s a poem for you.
(Side note: Someone posted this on facebook, and I did ‘search google for image’, and it thought it was a hippopotamus.)
Can we smooch your forehead Teddy? Thanks, I won’t tell Lily if you won’t! 😘😘😘
Since everyone enjoyed my backyard last weekend, I’ll share this video my mom sent me for her back yard. My parents (who are doing fine with the shutdown) live in a semi-rural area on a couple of acres. This is Thursday evening; speakers up for the birds!
Ahhhhhhhhh …
Beautiful!
5 minutes ago on my patio! The door was open slightly and I could hear birds and the fountain, but the mic didn’t pick them up unfortunately. I think this is a female Anna’s hummingbird.
💗
I really need to move somewhere that has its own little outdoor space.
Even a small garden is good for your mental health!
That’s magical. That little hummingbird hit about 3 or 4 flowers in a second. You go, little guy!
Delightful! (And I did hear the water and some birdsong.)
Yeah, the sound was off when I played it back and I didn’t realize it. It’s too bad the doves weren’t cooing at the time!
Enchanted.
Oh Jan. How beautiful. Just wonderful!
Are you sure you haven’t made some sort of “transition” that you are unaware of?? (I know that’s a preposition at the end of the sentence but there are no grammar rules during pandemics right?) Because that looks like a bit of paradise! Heavenly!!
Believe it or not, the ‘don’t end a sentence with a preposition’ thing is Latin grammar… some obscure vicar in England somewhere decided that English needed to be ‘improved’ by forcing classical grammar rules onto it. It’s just one of those mysteries why anyone paid attention to him, so I say stick prepositions where ever you feel like!
Ha Jan! Good to know (of)!
Exactly. Some terrible crimes were committed against English by Victorian Latin grammarians.
I just remembered a greeting card I saw once. Don’t ask me what occasion it might be celebrating! It goes something like “Hey girlfriend, where’s the party at?”
Response – “You shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition!”
“Okay…where’s the party at, bitch?”
I burst out laughing at the card counter and still chuckle at it today. 🤣
Churchill famously (and allegedly) said, “This is the sort of bloody nonsense up with which I will not put.”
Teddy is such a teddy Mike! That face and of course the stuffed toy fur! Sweetheart!
Allein – I just love that poem and artwork. I have heard it before but the artwork makes it so special.
Greetings, weekend peeps.
Both Duckies in a bad mood, but I won’t ruin what appears to be a rather up mood in Cutetropolis.
This will be my last week of self-isolation (I hate it that autocorrect recognizes that), ending in a double Mass next Sunday celebrating my parents’ fiftieth anniversary and my second-to-last nephew’s First Communion.
Then I’m free, the same time that the library opens, and chiro opens, and the bookstores open, and the busses are back, and maybe even my canker sores will be gone!
Oh, and since malls will be in COVID mode until a cure is found, I will be doing Christmas shopping. Just to avoid the crowds.
And maybe even a visit to the dentist, and the optician!
So much to look forward to.
Teddy, you are a beautiful boy, and if I were Mike, I’d definitely be concerned about the expression on your face. SOMEthing’s gonna happen.
Teddy looks like such a sweetie! Mike, how can you possibly deny him anything?
Jan, thanks for the lovely videos. Allein, I love that poem. Hope everybody is enjoying the weekend and staying safe. I’m still stunned by the maskless people I see, though the maskers outnumber them.
I’ve been making the most of my 4-day weekend, getting a lot of small house projects completed and starting the big one: finishing the back entryway and staircase to my basement. It involves cutting, painting, and installing a skirt board with edge trim; sanding and repainting the treads before screwing them down with center supports so they don’t wiggle; then screwing in the risers and covering them with a Moroccan-tile wallpaper. If I can just get the skirt board and treads done this weekend, my stairway will be much safer.
Then I have to figure out what to do with the crappy stairwell walls. Once upon a time, somebody lightly sprayed that texture stuff on them but didn’t knock it down, so the walls can’t simply be covered with wallpaper or PVC panels. Said person also sprayed the stuff on the sloped ceiling of the stairwell. So my solution will almost certainly require setting up a ladder on the stairs so I can reach everything. Sigh. But if I can get this back entryway finished, it will really add something special to my poor old house.
Teddy would probably interfere with my weekend project. I’m between drawings so I’m updating my entire website. Checking all the navigation buttons, tweaking the menue and adding five drawings and accompanying text. Working on the website gets me in a pleasant zone. But I have to take frequent breaks. Luckily Millie, unlike Teddy, is content to snooze on the bed as I work.
As per businesses opening and haircuts etc., my household has decided to hang back. My PC has advised me to stay in to end of June. My friend and I think there will be an uptick midJune. In fact, her daughter’s day camp will not be opening at all. And the Library where she works is closed until end of June too.
Go slow people. Be safe.
Good advice DebG. Just read about a stylist (in Missouri?) that tended to her clients for a week while symptomatic. She infected at least 90 people apparently. ☹️☹️☹️ Hopefully not everyone will be as irresponsible!!
Teddy is a cutie.
The past few weeks were really bad at the monster household and the future doesn’t look very rosie either. It seems my brother is going to lose his job and we are going to spend more time together than we should in the next few months drama alert. It feels my worst nightmare has come true.
I lost a cousin unexpectedly and my former boss also passed away. I wasn’t very close to them, but my former boss was one of the best persons I have ever known and he was a huge influence in my life.
I was finally able to take 2 days off work after working 10-12 hours a day ever since home office started. So on the first day I got the first death news and then on the second day I got the second one. I will get an answer on Sunday morning if I can also take Monday off, maybe I shouldn’t…
Now half the covid restrictions are lifted here, the other half of them are kept. It is arranged at such a combination that every day life, shopping, dentist etc are even more difficult than in the lockdown period. I understand that the restrictions are necessary but they can be “loosened” a bit, but our awesome government/local administration never thought it over once.
Anything I wanted to do in the past few weeks was just cursed, I would like to have my old rollercoaster life back with ups and downs, because having only downs gets old really fast.
I hope all of you have a great weekend!
Oh dear Ems. That is a rough patch for sure. The two deaths must be so upsetting.
Take care!
So I’ve decided to challenge myself: 30 Days of Yoga
I just finished Day 2. I am so inflexible. I need a mat, too. My carpet is not comfortable.
Also, does anyone know what kind of birds these are?
Good for you, Allein! I can highly recommend the FWFG Kula app (Adriene’s YWA online community). I haven’t done the original 30 Days of Yoga. I may have to join you!
The playlist is just called 30 Days of Yoga. I think it’s from 2015. Might be the first one she did. The link is in my post above.
Oh, and in the first video there’s a link where you can sign up for emails for the 30 days, and also get a downloadable calendar (which is just a blank grid). I have these little handprint stickers so I am putting a blue handprint on each day when I finish. (Beacuse the background of the calendar is blue….)
Day 3 was difficult. My balance is… not great.
Will check out the app. 🙂
They are barely birds.
🙂 🐻
That looks like my sister’s place! She takes in her feeders every night, just for that reason.
btw, I just learned that there is also turtle bread.
Have a well deserved Monday off Mike, and handsome (pester) Teddy.
