Good Morning All! Yes and I second Allein’s comment– Thank you for this place, Mike!

How is everyone managing today? Regroup, refocus, breathe.

I thankfully didn’t see any news until I got home from work yesterday, because I would not have gotten much done if I had known what was going on earlier in the day. Now listening to the NYT’s The Daily podcast which is discussing what happened yesterday.

I could do a lot of ranting, because I am angry (though it probably wouldn’t be very coherent), but I will instead share one of the few things that made me laugh last night (shared by a self-described theater-nerd friend on facebook):

        LOL

        That is excellent.

This one is now old news, but it still makes me laugh:

        If 2020 were a math word problem:ย ย
Youโ€™re going down a river at 2 MPH and your canoe loses a wheel.
How much pancake mix would you need to re-shingle your roof?

And to get back on Cutetopic: Didn’t we just see Milo and Cracker here recently? Or did I just see them somewhere else? Either way, Milo’s face when he gets his birb buddy back is just the best.

        • Debg January 7, 2021 / 11:31 am

I thought Milo and Cracker looked familiar too. But adorably familiar is really good today!

Oh geez we needed a laugh about last night.

Anybody else stay up till 4am watching CSPAN and the certification? I thought that i was going to die when they raised another challenge re: Wisconsin.

        • allein ๐Ÿพ January 7, 2021 / 12:03 pm

No but I did stay up until 11:45 or so to watch Stephen Colbert’s “unexpectedly live” monologue.

Love the links today. And so needed. After about noon Cali time I could not do any work, was texting back and forth with a co-worker about the s..t storm going down and just following the news. Allein, thanks for sharing, that laugh was needed. First thing hubby announced this morning is we had a new president. Thank goodness! Big props to the brave senators and representatives who went back and continued the certification process after the chaos. Hopefully this is the end of the disruptions.

BTW, I am still getting the hamster leash in my internet ads.

One of the best things I have ever googled. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for the laugh Allein. Much needed.

Love to all – and I mean ALL – of my fellow Americans. If everyone else could please pray for us…?

I am just sick at heart for you all.
So many things I don’t understand. Isn’t this treason? Sedition?
      I’m just stunned and shocked.
Yes I have fervent prayers for you.

      • allein ๐Ÿพ January 7, 2021 / 12:57 pm

According to the constitution, “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

I’m not sure if this would legally fall under that definition, but I think sedition fits.

Sedition: conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.”

          Tx Allein.
          It boggles my mind. ๐Ÿคฏ

      • SoccerSue January 8, 2021 / 12:38 am

“Insurrection” fits here, too. “An act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government” (definition by Merriam-Webster)

I spent the day yesterday watching what was happening on TV, it shocked me and saddened me but I am also angry.

Angry at all the lies that have been told to people, about the election, about the corona virus, about climate change. I’m angry at all the conspiracy theories that are all over the internet and that make people do crazy stupid things. And it’s not just an American problem, it is all over the world.

Enough now, I just had to get it off my chest, now I’m going to watch that doggy play with that birdie again.

    • Dulcie January 7, 2021 / 2:06 pm

You are certainly right about being a worldwide problem. Some of the academics I know here (Canada) who follow internet conspiracy theories have reported some absolutely unbelievable responses to the activities of yesterday. Ordinarily one would laugh at these outrageous theories. One is that Pelosi orchestrated this debacle to make Trump supporters look bad.

      • allein ๐Ÿพ January 7, 2021 / 2:10 pm

Sure. I’ll bet she gave that guy a key to her office, too. ๐Ÿ™„

        God, these people.

        • Dulcie January 7, 2021 / 4:25 pm

I meant to make it more clear that it was Canadian citizens that believe Pelosi is behind the storming of Congress.

Thank you for the kitten with the worried eyes. Would be happy to spend my time assuaging those worries.

I started watching at 1 and went to sleep after 11. Woke up around 3 and had to turn it all back on because no way to tell WHAT could possibly have happened. In time to see Biden/Harris election certified. It’s going to be a very long time until January 20th.

  7. Debg January 7, 2021 / 11:30 am

Thanks to Mike and Allein for much-needed respite. Yesterday evening felt like the second coming of Election Day, only with more blood and horror.

I kept refreshing pages on my fave news websites, even though I was rewatching one my fave shows ever. Once midnight struck, I could barely force myself to try to sleep and it didn’t work out well. I could barely manage to feed the kitties before looking at the news again.

Georgiana, I share your anger. COVID numbers (infections and deaths) have never been higher around the world, except possibly in China, but one man’s words and actions have sucked all the air out of the newsroom.

Hugs to you all. Mike, thanks for creating this beautiful space for us.

I love the weather doggo. I mean how is your job more important than paying attention to me???
