It’s another Caturday in Cutetropolis, and we hope the skies are blue wherever you are. Speaking of blue, an impossibly handsome Russian blue cat is here to keep us company as we talk about whatever’s on our minds.

My Minkette was half Russian Blue. The only part of her that didnโt look Russian Blue was her color. She was black. She was a real looker.
Black Russian? ๐
Yes! Do people drink those anymore? When I was young those were popular.
Such a cutie! I don’t think I’ve ever seen eyebrow dots on a cat before.
What kitty? Kitty not there. (Peek under my jacket as snuggle and stealthily slink away with purloined kittyโฆ..) (Mine nowโฆ!)
That is one pretty kitty!
I don’t know about other Canadian but I’m so ready for the federal election race to be over! I’m so tired of the endless political adds on TV and the radio, thank goodness it will all be over tomorrow.
It’s been a quiet week, the only thing out of the ordinary is that in addition to my regular blood test, I had to take a fecal occult blood test to see if there is bleeding in my digestive track because the doctor can’t figure out why my iron is still very low even tho I’ve been taking iron supplements for over 6 months.
I really don’t feel like doing anything today, maybe I’ll go for a walk later if I can muster the energy, otherwise it’s going to be a lazy Saturday. Have a good weekend everyone.
Oh yeah. I am very ready for the election to be over. Alas, the political blathering will continue!
None of the parties have inspired me for a few years now. Am I relegated to voting so that certain people with policies that offend me don’t get in? I used to think that even if my preferred party didn’t get elected, those who did would not destroy my country…now I’m not so sure that is true. ๐ค Oh to be on that island where no man/woman can be…or just stay where I am an put the covers over my head unit Tuesday. ๐
Eyebrow dots.
Spent night in hโ- with flare up. Joints swollen; feet look like udders with five taps.
Second cataract surgery on Monday.
Be well.
Be well yourself, Duckie! Your description of your feet in flare-up is memorable, if uncomfortable! Holding you in my heart on Monday! ๐๐๐
Good luck with the cataract surgery. It WILL go as well as the first surgery. My memory is bad – what has flared up? Sounds awful.
Wegenerโs Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis
It sounds way worse when you give it a name like that. But no, that’s probably not true right Duckie? It IS as bad as it sounds. โน๏ธ I’m so sorry you have to deal with these flare ups. Hugs. ๐
I looked it up on the Mayo Clinic site. It says that with treatment you’re likely to recover. Not exactly a ringing endorsement! I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I hope the symptoms abate soon.
Yikes over the flare up. Sending good thoughts and crossed fingers for Monday.
Impossibly handsome indeed! And eyes match the fur–that’s some classy accessorizing.
I’m planning things and finishing things this weekend. Finishing my giant handwoven blanket (with handspun weft); plying a bobbin of handspun singles that shades from palest green to a medium green; knitting the colorwork yoke for a gift sweater, then there’s just a final push for the neck. All these projects require too much attention for TV, so I’ll continue my way through Harry Potter audiobooks (again).
When I need to take a break from finishing, I can set up the next projects: plan and maybe wind the warp for the next weaving project; decide on the fibers to blend for a big spinning project; knit swatches and match yarn to potential garments.
In the background, I’ll be watching to see if any cats continue to use the Litter Robot. Fred Weasleycat simply will not use it, so I had to set up an open litter box for him. In the past, when kitties had the option to use the traditional box, that’s what they did. Now that 3 of them are willing to use the LR, it will be interesting to see if they go back to the open box. Their behavior will decide whether we the LR or return it–the return window ends in just a few weeks.
And in other cat news, I’ll set up a safe place for the ferals once they’re contained. The nice folks at the Humane Society worked out a good program for us all. I’m going to set up a humane trap to start catching Cloud (who is pregnant again) and the kittens to go to the shelter for adoption. I also need to catch the adult males for neutering and release; I’ll continue to feed them if they hang around. Since there are 7 cats to catch, and the boys have to be “timed” for their surgery, it will be a tricky operation! I’m anticipating many trips to the shelter over the next few weeks. Cloud is the first priority: we really want to get her settled before she gives birth.
I’ve loved my dinner hour with the kittens. It will be bittersweet to say goodbye, but they deserve a chance to be indoor cats with loving families.
Hope everybody is well!
Wow! You are busy! And lots of it good works! Over the past 30 years I have supported Alley Cat Allies. In that time they have expanded and I think work nationally on catching and neutering feral cats. I’m guessing their web site has lots of relevant info, though it sounds like you have the situation well in hand.
DebG…Love hearing your cattails. ๐ธ๐ธ
Oh, my goodness, what an adorable little dust ball. And eyebrow dots on a kitty? They’re so subtle, too.
My parents are away this weekend; they’re finally doing a memorial service for my dad’s brother (he died in February), at my cousin’s in Maryland. They drove down yesterday and come home Monday. Unfortunately there are no kitties to babysit, now. I might go stay there tonight just because it’s quiet, though. I really hate this place, sometimes.
Umm, a video realization of poor Duckie’s feet? One more tap, and it would look just like her description.
Also adorable.
Deb, that is precisely what came to mind.
That might be the best thing that Ive seen on tik tok. Those tails are killing me.
I try to avoid sharing facebook videos but I couldn’t find it on youtube and I just had to share. I love the one climbing over his sibling and the bottle…I guess some people just have to do things the hard way.
I’ve been lurking because I started a new job on September 6 and the learning curve is pretty steep! I went from a school with about 12 teachers and 120 students to a school with 890+ students and 120 teachers! But I am not unhappy, I just have very little time to hang out on the internet.
Love and light to you all!
I hope this job is better for your career – and your pocketbook! Your old job sounded comfortable.
I still haven’t been paid for the 2nd semester 2020/21, but I’ve got my first paycheck from the new job! I am teaching in a physical school building and everyone has to be tested for Covid 3 times a week. But the students are well prepared and dare I say delightful!? It’s a fine arts high school with concentrations in art, music and dance!
So it’s basically the live version of Fame? I hope that its a wonderful experience for you.
Fame was exactly what came to mind when I learned about the school. I may have to dig up a DVD of the original and subject them to it!
This weekend’s Shameless Animal Video from CNN’s Good Stuff newsletter:
Almost too tie-tie to eat? Unpossible!
Now sending good thoughts to people starting new jobs, awaiting medical news or procedures, etc. Generally sending good thoughts to you all. You’re such an important part of my life.
Who else tried to reach into the screen to help the kittens sort themselves out?
Ha ha exactly Carlotta! ๐คฃ
A quiet week at the Shortcakery which I spent working on my family tree, specifically the ancestors who lived in the Haworth area of Yorkshire. Using Google Earth and property listings I managed to find some good photos of the stone-built cottages my family occupied in the mid to late 19th century, including a terrace with the wonderful name “New Delight”! Lots of oddball personal names too, especially in the Sunderland family – Havilah, Mephibosheth, Samson and Venus being just a few. I also discovered that some of my ancestors are buried in the graveyard at Heptonstall where Sylvia Plath was laid to rest, and that one of my 4xgreat-grandfathers was widowed five times (he’s buried in the horribly overcrowded graveyard next to Haworth Parsonage).
Wow Alice that’s so cool.
And those “oddball” personal names? They’re gonna be recycled any day now ๐!
And your GGx 4, hmmm…even for those days isn’t five times a widow just a wee bit suspicious? ๐ค๐
And why that graveyard is overcrowded!
The average life expectancy in Bronte-era Haworth was 26, so they didn’t do too badly…considering that most people were drinking water that had trickled downhill through the graveyard!
Funnily enough I did come across a family drama that did strike me at first as being a bit suspicious. The aforementioned Mephibosheth Sunderland, a pub landlord and my first cousin twice removed, died in 1900 at the age of 37 after a sudden illness. The following year his widow married a man seven years her junior, but in 1903 he died in a freak accident whilst shooting pigeons. I already knew that his widow was married three times, so I was half expecting husband No. 3 to be the same man who accidentally (?!) killed husband No. 2. It turned out that he wasn’t present at the melancholy event, although the widow outlived him as well! She also outlived a daughter who was widowed twice, so perhaps serial widowhood ran in the family…
What a wonderful project and to have the sites relatively close by. Any plans to do a road trip to visit the old family manse(s) and graves? Before my parents and some of the older relatives passed, I did manage to get some of the names and relationships down on paper. My dad’s side was relatively easy as he was able to give ancestors from about 3 generations back. I’ll probably never be able to go back any further as he was from Greece so there’s the language/alphabet problem but also many of the records are probably in some archive in Turkey. Talking about unusual family names, we had Sotiria, Bobbis, Memos, Cleanthes, 2 Olympias, and Evangalia,
Mom’s side is complicated by the fact that her dad was uhmm probably illegitimate and his mom may have been entertaining sailors, and was married at least three times. Add in the fact that side was in Newfoundland before it was part of Canada, and it ends up more tangled than a skein of yarn. Her mom’s side is a little less confusing but not by much. I think this may be a project to tackle once I retire.
I’d love to spend a day in Haworth, but my dad doesn’t like being left alone for more than a couple of hours so it’s out of the question – not to mention being a bit of a slog as I don’t have a car, so it means a journey by train and bus. However, I’ve now made up my mind to move to Haworth when circumstances permit.
