Hello, and welcome to Caturday in Cutetropolis! Everyone thinks it’s cute when two cats curl up together in a yin-yang position, but when one cat alone does it? That is true Zen enlightenment, a miracle recently observed by sender-inner N. Fritz:
I caught Mutz (rhymes with “puts”) doing this yin-yang thing today. I think a couple of rules of cuteness are at play here: yin yang and a pet folded in on themselves (or something of that ilk).
Oh, good, Mike, a belly laugh even before I get out of bed. How completely adorable, N. Fritz! At first I couldn’t tell which end was which. Thank heaven for ears.
Right! Without the ear I would never have figured it out. Mutz is adorable!
That’s impressive! And adorable!
Got a few errands to run today. And it’s wet outside (though not currently raining). I have a book on hold at the library (that I totally forgot about…) and got a message yesterday that it’s in, but they close at 5 on on Fridays so I couldn’t pick it up on my way home yesterday. The library is across from Target and Wegmans, and I have a few things to get there. Also need to do a little online shopping for ceiling lights. My dad is replacing a couple broken ones (one is just the glass shade, but I’m not finding the right thing to replace it; the other is just dead) for Christmas.
Speaking of books…
(But as far as I can tell it’s not available in the US yet.)
I can’t bear to disappoint Olive and Mabel! Hopefully it’s available here soon.
I love that the latest Louise Penny Inspector Gamache book, “The Madness of Crowds”, mentions Olive and Mabel as being among the few things getting people through the pandemic.
I’ll have to check it out, then!
Mutz is the master of relaxation. And he looks very cozy. Mike has been on a roll with his posts. Between alien elves vaporizing cousin Earl yesterday and cuteness up the yin-yang now, I’ve been chortling to myself for hours.
Sorta cool over here the last few days but so far no more rain after a day of downpours last Tuesday. Been busy packing and moving stuff over to the new house. Weekend will be spent getting rooms ready for painting. Finally picked out paint colors so will be picking up supplies tomorrow so hubby (& friend) can paint next week. It looks like the master bath is going to be more of a project then expected. When they painted last, they didn’t sand the walls and the top layer is now flaking off in huge chunks. So have to scrape, sand, prime, and then paint. Plus the sink/vanity is barely attached to the wall, the toilet and possibly the tub need to be replaced. Le sigh as Pepe LePew would say. Thank goodness that’s the only room that really needs work. At least I have hockey to look forward to tonight, hopefully my team plays better than the last two games. Happy weekend before Christmas!
AJ…picking paint colors can be frustrating. But at the same time so satisfying. I love looking at paint samples. So many wonderful tones and blends! And the names people have come up with are a hoot. I once saw a paint chip color called “Band-Aid” ha ha. You know exactly what for that is! 😆
That’s supposed to say “you know exactly what color that is” 😣
It never ends with houses. I’m glad there’s just one “trouble” room–my whole house consists of in-process and trouble rooms.
Like Dulcie, I adore choosing paint colors. And it’s even more exciting when they mix the paint! Have fun with the prep work!
When we were young, my sisters and I loved looking at the paint colour samples. My older sister would always go for the blue ones and then tell us that we couldn’t like blue because she already did.
I’m with both of you about looking at paint colors and dreaming of the perfect combo. I think that’s what made it so hard … choices, and more choices. The bedroom was pretty easy as I had a theme going anyway and just needed to find a color to compliment a particular accent color. The bathroom was the one I agonized over but finally went with a terracotta red called Racing Rec for the walls and a golden Honeycomb for the trim.
Ooh nice!!
That’s a great photo! Never seen a solo yin-yang before.
I’m in Denver to photograph the band whose video I was in- they played last night and will go again tonight. Last night was so much fun! It’s a difficult venue to photograph, but I got a few decent shots, and got to meet the lead singer’s sister and brother-in-law who live here. Meeting up with the drummer and guitar player today for lunch, and hopefully going to the Christmas market this afternoon before the show.
Enjoy Denver! We’ve got sunny but cold weather in Greeley–Denver is probably similar.
Yes, we were remarking that this isn’t like Washington cold, even though it gets this cold there, too. Maybe it’s the combination of sun and cold- brain expects warm, but gets freezing cold instead.
Had a nice lunch with two of the band members today, then walked to the Capitol area and went to the Christmas market (didn’t stay too long as it was PACKED with people, and although I was wearing my mask, most people weren’t). Then walked by the big bear at the convention center and to see the sculpture behind the performing arts center. Tonight I’m going to get some pix inside the big light up Christmas tree- I took photos of the outside of it last night before the cold got to me.
Came across this during the week, in case anyone needs a last minute gift (for their self).

Dachshund
Lots of other critters available.
Lots of fabulous critters! I store both pairs in cases because they travel with me, but now I’m thinking about alternatives for when I’m at home.
How wonderful Mutz! You’ve got it all! No need for another kitty to complete you! 💕😸
It’s Caturday.
What a week!
Foot healing.
Hubby got a raise, a promotion and a change to day shift.
Provincial medical officer put province on more stringent restrictions because of increasing Omicron cases. (To be honest, I am not too upset that my family may not be able to get together for Christmas. Some of my nieces and nephews need to be spanked and sent to bed without supper. Especially the grown up ones. Santa won’t come near their house.)
Had the resident barred owl land on my deck railing yesterday (Mike has a pic).
Tried to inhale a piece of orange last night, and now I am congested.
Starting baking today.
Car started jerking while driving, had to go in shop. Not too expensive, but still, that’s money that had several other places to go. Oh well, at least we don’t need a new car yet.
Heavy snow last night turned to rain this morning, and now outside just looks gross.
Mute, is there room for me to curl up with you? I’ll bring a heating pad and plenty of fleece blankets.
Have a good weekend, everyone, and stay warm and dry.
There’s a lot of Yay in there as well as some Boo. I choose to celebrate your Yay! Yay, Duckie!

That’s it!
Thanks.
Oh, I almost forgot! My car is officially paid off!
I paid it off just before Thanksgiving, and yesterday I got the letter from Hyundai confirming that is is paid in full, and the title, which I apparently have to take (or send) to the DMV to have it reissued in just my name. Not sure if I can just go in there or what (with covid and all).
You might be able to do the car thing online. Congrats–one less monthly payment!
I looked on their website but I’m not sure if I was looking at the right thing. There were multiple things about transferring titles and stuff under different scenarios. Might have to ask my dad. I hope I don’t have to call them.
Also gonna start putting at least some of that payment into my mortgage instead.
It’s always so satisfying to pay off a bill. Nothing as big as a car but I made the final payment on one of my credit cards so now I can apply that money to another card. Plus mortgage is less than rent so even with paying more to the principal and some to a maintenance fund, I’ll have an extra few hundred to put to other bills. Slowly but surely paying off everything.
Mutz looks so adorable! Not many cats can do their own yin-yang–his beautiful coat helps a lot.
Got my booster yesterday; my arm aches but so far no other reaction. I’m taking things really easy this weekend: knitting a quick hat for a coworker, spinning yarn for a handwoven throw for my bio dad, weaving kitchen towels for a friend, making fudge for a party tomorrow and for my coworkers. I’m going to experiment with my 3/1 sugar/stevia mix, to see if it works for candy–it works beautifully for baking. Chemistry can be so much fun!
Hugs to you all, in this short week leading to Christmas. How can it be happening next weekend? That’s just nuts. Or Mutz.
I had some fatigue but not until two days after (got booster Wednesday afternoon, very tired on Friday), but it wasn’t too bad. Didn’t keep me from going to work, at least. Arm was sore for a few days but it was pretty mild.
A quiet week at the Shortcakery during which I began knitting a bedspread – hopefully it will be finished for Christmas.
I may have mentioned that every summer my local park features a display of wickerwork figures based on characters from childrens’ books. When I took Dad there a couple of days ago I was surprised to see Scrooge, Marley, the three Christmas Ghosts and Tiny Tim! The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is particularly effective.
Must go now as it’s time for fish and chips…
Sounds like lots of good news to celebrate today. Yay to Duckie for
all the positives and I agree about how to deal with some relatives. Soccersue have fun in Denver! Sounds so cool to be “with the band”. Mmmm fish and chips sounds loverly Alice.
Cases of Covid are going up here and Provincial Government has put in more restrictions, before it was 20 people could get together in a house now it’s 10 and stores and venues can operate only at 50%.
The problem is I already said weeks ago (before cases started going up) that I would go to a New Year Eve party at a friend’s house, there won’t be more than 6 or 7 people there because some have already cancelled. I don’t feel it’s the right thing to do at this time but I don’t want to disappoint my friend who has done a lot for us, I HATE this!
I can’t wait for this year to be over, I hope 2022 is better.
Georgiana, I read a remark the other the other day that goes something like “2021 is almost over. But that just proves that time flies even when you’re NOT having fun”! 🤣
Snort laugh! I mean, at this point ya gotta laugh, right?
Last week my office had their holiday party and I didn’t go even though I had my booster (going into the office isn’t mandatory so I rarely go in). I still feel unsure/uncomfortable/squeamish about being in a large crowd of people indoors, unmasked, and with no social distancing. The day of the party I was starting to feel like I should have RSVP’d yes (like maybe I had over-reacted) then the very next day and the day after that we got emails from HR saying more than a few people had tested positive. And, I spoke to someone who went who said “I’m sure more than a few of us now have it because we were all hugging each other….”🥴
Now we’ve been advised to wfh (you can go in if you still want..). So, of course I’m now relieved I didn’t go.
Somedays I just wanna stay curled up like Mutz and not leave the house….but, who can live like that.
Sorry for my rant. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!
Target and Wegmans were not the places to be if you want to avoid people (not that I wasn’t prepared for that; it is the last Saturday before Christmas, after all).
OMG Dana. You showed good sense, lucky you. But I still hope all of those folks that made rash decisions will be ok.
I see that I have neglected to give due attention and praise to the beauteous Mutz! I hope that better late than never applies, because I do truly think that Mutz is lovely.
Trying to make rock candy ‘coal’ for hubby’s stocking, as he REEEEALLY deserves it after today.
Oh oh. Spill it Duckie. (Or vent it!)
Nothing, really.
Just little things.
Too many little things.
He left spaghetti sauce baked dry on the stove, a greasy pot left soaking in cold water. One dirty sock not put in washer after rest of load folded and put away. Forgot his work lunch. Tried to gently stroke Duckie’s tail and seriously scared her. Yelled at his deaf dad on the phone and seriously scared me.
Just little things.
Its always the small things that annoy the most. Sigh. 😒
Thank you all for loving on Mutz! He’s as old as my students (13-14) and MUCH better behaved. He is the ideal cat who does his business outside, keeps a predictable indoor-outdoor schedule, loves ham and yogurt as occasional treats and is generally a love sponge. He’s truly achieved enlightenment!
Is this meant to be today’s post? It has today’s date except that the year is 2019—and it only has one like, which seems … wait for it … unlikely.
https://cutetropolis.com/2019/12/19/wheres-my-present/
“Today” meaning Sunday, Dec. 19.
I think so; I got the new post email but it didn’t let me comment and that’s when I looked at the date. I emailed Mike about it so hopefully he will fix it soon.
Is fixed!
Huzzah!
