” ‘Trust me, I know a shortcut,’ you said. ‘We’ll get back to Canada before the others,’ you said. And now look at us! We’re completely lost in a swamp, there’s no place to ask for directions, and I think I saw an alligator watching us!”
Sender-inner Susan H. writes: “Got some funny photos of Canada geese last weekend and thought you might be able to use them.” Here’s the other one:
The goose really does look incensed. Geese do seem to have tempers.

LOL. It told me I had already made the comment but when I did not see the comment posted and wrote it again, the program rewrote tempers to temperatures to make it different and printed both.
Well, I assume they have temperatures, too…
Geese can certainly be temperamental. We had a small (manmade) lake at my college with lots of birds – ducks, geese, swans, and even a wild turkey. The swans are the meanest, though.
The turkey, when he wasn’t down by the lake, liked to hang out in a tree in front of the library. There was a pair of them, Tom and Jenny, and the year before I started Jenny got hit by a car. Tom never had another girlfriend (he died my senior year).
Tom and Jenny is a sad story.
Yeah…
They always know a shortcut…
Thank you, Mike, for using the photos! I knew you’d come up with a good story/caption! 😀
These were taken at a park near my mom’s place; I saw two pairs of Canada geese swimming towards each other and yelling their heads off, so I hustled over to get some photos of what I figured would be an epic goose fight. I was not disappointed. (No geese were injured- just a lot of honking and dive-bombing each other.)
The second photo shows one of them literally walking on water as he takes off to chase away another goose.
Great photos, Soccersue! How’s your mom doing?
She’s doing pretty well, thank you! Pet scans continue to show no cancer. She had a minor procedure (lady parts stuff) a couple of months ago that she’s all recovered from now, too.
🙂 Yay!
That’s great news!!
I find it hilarious that Canada geese the most famous Canadian bird are famous for being bad tempered but Canadian people are known around the world for being nice. Of course neither proposition are totally true, Canada geese can be nice and Canadians can be not nice as unfortunately demonstrated in Ottawa recently.
I think most Canadians vent their frustrations through the geese. And hockey. 😉
LOVE that headline, Mike! Brings me back to my grammar school days.
