After a little tinkering and a lot of procrastination, I’m ready to change the name of this site from “Not That Mike The Other Mike” to “Cutetropolis” on August 1. Very little about the site will change for regular readers — you can even use the old address.
Here are some questions you may have. Feel free to ask other questions in the comments.
- Can I still type notthatmiketheothermike.com into my browser? Yes. The old address will lead you to the site at its new address. If you have bookmarks that use notthatmiketheothermike.com, they will still work.
- What if I misspell the new name? I’ve anticipated several likely misspellings and these will be corrected automatically.
- Is anything else changing? A couple of things:
- I’m switching to a different system for entering comments, but the comment layout will stay the same.
- You will no longer be able to upload images with comments, but you can still add images from other websites by entering the URL into the post.
What if I have my own personal photo (of, say, my bunnies) – would I be able to post them as part of comments? I JUST figured out how to do that today!
If you use a free photo hosting site like Flickr or Imgur, you can post pictures there and then paste their URLs into your comments. You can also send me photos in email and I’ll post them for you.
Will google photos links work?
***
guess not..
If the links end in the extension .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, or .png, like this image:
I found this image by Googling “panda” then selecting “images.” I clicked the image I liked and then pressed the “View Image” button, and finally copied the URL from my browser’s address bar.
Oh. Gee. From day one I needed that help. Lol.
😀 Yaaaaaaa baby, that worked. I am sure I said this before but I now know how my Mom felt when we got the VCR.
LOL!!
Trying posting from Flickr, that’s my Mia … It works!
Oh wow. I’m diving into that flooferous belly.
Be my guess she likes getting her belly rubbed.
Oooh, could lose oneself in that belly. Nice quilt, too.
You can’t handle the floof!
A cat who likes getting their belly rubbed?! You mean it’s not a trap? Wow,’
She’s fantastic!
Oh, sorry, I think you were referring to the Google Photos service. Those URLs don’t end in an extension, so they won’t embed. I’ll see if there’s a workaround.
Yes, that’s what I meant. Not a big deal; I haven’t been uploading photos much. Unless it’s actually one of my own, I just find ’em on the web because it’s easier.
Congratulations Mike. I’m sure we will all find the accommodations in the new land of Cutetropolis to be to our liking as long as your wit and humor prevail.
What’s the going rate for an cute pint?! Have one on me. ?
Will we still be able to edit comments?
Yes.
Yay!!!!!
Love it!!!
Tku.
I nominate Not That Mike The Other Mike as Lord Mayor of Cuteropolis and hope that Larry leaves #10 Downing Street to take up residence with us. Mega Snoodles. No politics. No paparazzi. But don’t touchy the fishy!
I’ll second that
Just saved this image! Thank you Allein.
Me, too! This reminds me: When I was house hunting last fall, my sister and 4 yo niece went with me. She LOVES fish of all kinds!??? One house we went to had a large bowl on a low table with 3 beautiful fish–my niece was entranced. We were talking with my realtor and when we turned around we saw her with a fish in her hands! We freaked! She didn’t understand it couldn’t breathe out of the water! She was crying cos we freaked out, but the fish seemed okay when it was back in the water. Then when we explained, she was afraid the fish would die, and then she was really crying! My realtor checked back later and the fish was still living, so it worked out okay, but still…?
Thirding that here.
wait wait .. Didn’t I see that movie once (or twice)
Whoops .. nevermind .. That one was a few years ago.
Hahaha.
Love the new name and tagline! Succinct and fuzzy-feeling. Congratulations on your appointment to Mayor. Well-deserved.
I must have referred hundreds of people over the years to the former website of teh cute and have been trying to do that same thing here but nothatmiketheothermike is a mouthful, yeah? Being able to say “What this? It’s Cutetropolis! My first stop every morning” will be much easier. 😉
That’s my hope. For people who use email, the easiest thing to do is to send a link, but I hope people will be able to promote this via casual conversation as well.
Does the new comment system allow subscribing to comments like we can now?
(It’s not Disqus, is it?)
On a side note, I’m guessing I’m not the only one who subscribes to the comments on every thread…I just saw I’m up to 77 at the moment (I go in periodically and unfollow anything more than a week or two old, but I haven’t cleaned it up in a few weeks).
Not Disqus, it will be the same subscription system hosted on WordPress.com that we’ve been using.
Cool 🙂
I don’t mind Disqus, generally, and I already have an account, but it can be a pain in the ‘tocks sometimes.
Yes, it can be.
The blog I read regularly that uses it sometimes gets comments into the hundreds, and occasionally 1-2000 or more. Once it gets over 200 or so, it starts doing all kinds of weird things. And it seems like every time they fix one issue another one crops up.
Good!
I am shocked you didnt go with my suggestion,”Uncle Mike’s Funhouse of Madness and Despair!”.Cthulu will be heartbroken.
I like it!
Catchy and succinct. Easy to type. Go figure.
UMFoMaD! That’s easy to say!
Yes. Them people.
LOL ? It’s funnier, I’ll give you that!
Will the forward and back arrows (previous/next post) in the comment section remain? ‘Cause I think I’ve finally gotten the hang of using them. For some reason my brain refuses to equate left and right with up and down (next and previous). I have to think about it every time. 😛
Yep, no changes to the navigation.
With the site’s name change .. we demand more ..
More koi .. More iguanas .. MORE .. You hear us Mike ? (No not you Mike .. the other one)
(Koi & iguanas can be cute too ya know!)
DON’T BE COY – WE WANT KOI! A new bumper sticker slogan is born.
…and tiny lizards…
Cutetropolis. My homepage away from home. ^_^ Actually, my homepage at home, as well.
Since I’m from Minneapolis, Cutetropolis will just feel like a suburb to me.
I once knew a little girl (now a grown woman) who called Minneapolis “Mini-Apple Juice” – does that happen a lot?
