Austria, 1927: Candy executive Eduard Haas took a break from his struggle to invent a groundbreaking new confection to bathe his cat Fleurnbleurn. The bathwater made the ordinarily floofy cat look like a giant head on a stick, and as Haas noticed this, the cat spit out a bar of soap he had accidentally swallowed, inspiring Haas to create the classic Pez dispenser we know today.

I used to love Thrills when I was a kid, but I didn’t think they tasted like soap. At least not the soap we used at home.
Not familiar with this – confection is it?
A Canadian ‘confection’… it was ‘big’ in the 70’s and 80’s up here. The gum your big brother or sister would come home with and give under the guise of well, gum… I kinda grew to love, hate it… officially according to wiki, it is rosewater flavoured (how very old-continent and I can’t believe the gum isn’t a present day hipster hit.)
I want to see how floofy this cat is when dry. That’s a really skinny body!
Wow, the original Pez dispenser – now I can rest easy.
I used to use Pez as fake soap in my dollhouse 🙂
Great memory.
How creative!!!?
That’s freakin’ genius!
Are you sure it was soap flavored? Maybe ginger! After all, it’s a ginger kitty. Jelly Belly used ginger for the “soap” flavor in the Harry Potter “all-flavor” beans!
The build up was so funny and I had an inkling of the pic and actually was a bit afraid to scroll down because it would be too funny. I started to laugh at the odd feeling of anticipation of impending cute…
Mike delivered!! Yup, PEZ dispenser for sure.
A wet and hairy Pez dispenser.?
Giggling in the middle of the bookstore again. Thanks, Mike.
Pez-zy cat!
Hee hee hee! Welcome, new user, and thanks for leaving a funny first comment! I hope we’ll hear from you again soon. 😀
