The approach of spring is the ideal time to start preparing your doggie garden. Seedlings should be planted in late March. Most varieties prefer direct sunlight, with regular water and kibble. When harvesting, lift gently with both hands, and avoid pulling up by the tail.
Submitterated by Julie H. From Instagram user wolfgang2242, who adds “We were cleaning up the yard and I thought it would be fun for the dogs to get in a big pile of leaves for a picture. Their expressions say otherwise.”
Occasional head scritches are said to increase yield up to 40 percent.
Looks like last year’s overwintered crop to me. That’s all good, though: sometimes the fruit is sweeter that way!!!
If you have Instagram on your phone, I really, really, really encourage you to follow @wolfgang2242. His posts are funny, tasteful, intelligent, erudite and compassionate.
He has 10 dogs, 1 pig, 1 rabbit, 2 ducks and a handful of chickens. All are rescues. Almost all are seniors.
The pig’s name is Bikini 🙂
You will not be disappointed!
There is a pic of the Bikini the pig sleeping in a dog bed with Stuart the rabbit trying to move him over!!? Too many cute pics!
Stuart dressed as a bat for Halloween!
NTMTOM – this is why I love your writing – I looked at this picture and thought “how cute!”. You looked at this picture and thought, “…oh, he is growing dogs in his backyard.”
Exactly!!
I think I just see animals growing out of the ground because I watched this too many times as a kid:
Childhood imprinting of the goofy and creative.
As a kid? Heck I watched faithfully as an adult…my only cartoon series.
This is the one that stuck with me:
God bless you, June Foray!
I’m further away from my childhood and adult R&B memories.
Were Natasha and Boris and the Spy on the cartoon or were they only in Mad Magazine. I loved all of them.
I do remember waiting breathlessly for the new Mad Magazine to come out.
They most definitely were in the cartoon!
Thanks. Nice to be reminded. Natasha style http://www.overstock.com/#/Clothing-Shoes/Tom-Ford-Womens-TF0173-Nikita-Cat-Eye-Sunglasses/6751398/product.html
The Spy was in Mad Magazine. That’s Spy vs Spy with a white spy and black spy injuring each other in increasingly violent ways. Best part of Mad Magazine.
I mashed Mad Magazine and R&B together. Thank you.
She did most of the female voices in Warner Brothers cartoons (Granny, Witch Hazel, etc.); Natasha, Nell, and Rocky on Bullwinkle; Ursula in George of the Jungle; Oh heck, just look here: http://www.newsfromme.com/?s=june+foray
She won her first Emmy in 2012 at the age of 93 for work she did that year on The Garfield Show. A great lady.
She did voices for all those different cartoons, didn’t she. Was she in “Super Chicken” – and what was the one with the Mounty? I loved those cartoons!!!
Oh the Mounty with the big chin. Wow.
Dudley Do-Right?
That’s him!
For those who dont know who we are talking about here is Dudley Do-Right with bad guy Snidely Whiplash, and the always damsel in distress Nell Fenwick.
Can you grow these in window boxes, or under indoor grow lights? I live in a condo with no yard…
Yes, Allein, you can. You just need the bonsai version, also known as ‘teacup’.
Yes, I’ve had great success with Yorkies in window boxes.
Perfect! I am partial to Chihuahuas, after all.
Small footprint.
I would love to have a Chihuahua but I’m afraid my cats would beat him up since 3 of them would be bigger than him.
Chihuahuas are not as delicate as you would think. You could adopt a one or two year old cat friendly one who weighs more. My Sammi Girl weighed 9 pounds and was tough. When I had cats she chased them.
Also you can train a chihuahua to use a litter box. Less cleanup.
Since Chihuahuas *think* they are the size of a German Shepard, I would think them a match for any cat!
Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?
With silver noses and unkempt fuzzies
and pretty puppehs all in a row!
PD I am told that Westies can ne pulled by teir tails. But very gently, of course.
Nice variety. They look genetically modified for sure. (But we can overlook that one.) Obviously naturally sweetened. Good. But are they organic? Gluten free? And rich in antioxidants?
Yes, yes and yes. I’ll take all you’ve got.
AND they’re self fertilizing!
Self watering as well. Lol. They even turn their own earth and rid the garden of deer, rabbits and, of course, SQUIRRELS!! What was I sayin’…
They can definitely add to their own compost.
And roll in it too. ?
Holy cats, the dog violets are in bloom!
Made me snort a laugh.
Awesome!! I needed to see that.
Oh dear, I can hear the ASPCA sputtering now and gearing up to blast the groomer for dying this dog.
We’re a funny country, we don’t blink at violence against the elderly and children but heavens forbid an animal get even temporarily died another color.
I would like to see a picture of this cute farmer please.
This is the farmer.

Omgosh. What wonderful person!!!!!
Sigh. Next doggie will be an oldster.
I was being silly, but apparently this all lives up to NTMTOM’s billing either way the headline is interpreted. 🙂
Oh, isn’t he cute!
Blessed.
So sweet; and so really lovely that this guy is caring for all these senior-citizen animals. Almost everybody wants a young pet.. these older cuties are just like people: they all need care just like we do…!
Yes, it makes me happy to see these sweet oldsters in such a good home, even though they are putting on their grumpy faces in this picture!?
Hey, NTMTOM! A technical issue. This picture is all fuzzy for me. Went to instagram and it’s perfectly sharp–and adorable! The previous instagram post was just fine. ????
Thanks for letting me know. I tried a different way of adding this pic to my site, and maybe I should stick with Instagram’s method.
Instagram probably does that on purpose, because they want their branding on the photos. Remember the kerfuffle about how Instagram owns your photos and not you?
